Well I saw leaflets yesterday in the Speakeasy and well can't remember what's on Monday, Camembert Quartet on Tues...Hollywood Night or something for the Media Soc, Republic of Loose on Wed, Picturehouse on Thurs!

    Nothin mad exciting

Oh and sorry, it starts on the 6th March i.e. week after next!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 346 ✭✭trekkypj

    Yup that's right.

Tues is a Bar Ex run by Media Soc, and we're doing a Classic Hollywood Theme with the Camenbert Quartet as special guests. That's on the Tuesday of Rag Week, on the 7th March.

who gives a siht about the Media Soc. The Camenbert Quartet? I would rather stay in and watch reruns of you're a star.

    Enjoy, then. *shrug*

They sell out every time they play here, though. That says a lot. If they're not your cup of tea, nobody is forcing you to go. A lot of people like them, myself included, and they WILL go to it, if they can, and enjoy the night.

Well feel free to do that then...

It's an interesting fact of life that not everybody is the same, and other people actually enjoy different types of music to yourself. A lot of people are excited about this event.

The SU looked over a bunch of proposals from various clubs, all wanting to hold the Tuesday Bar-ex. I know personally that at least 2 other club's proposals were very strong, well thought out, etc. Obviously the Media soc's was the best.

They seem to have their ducks in a row. I'm not a huge fan of the camenbert quartet, but I'll still go to this bar-ex. Sounds like fun.

Don't forget the Revs too....tell me they're not playing this year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 765 ✭✭✭Smurfpiss

at leat we got the loose....weren't turn supposed to be playing as well or has that been discreetly forgotten.
And eh..every bax ex has "sold out" this year. regardless of quality. there's enough tasteless alcoholics amongst us to make up the numbers...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,374 ✭✭✭Gone West

I saw turn, republic of loose, camenbert qrt., and picturehouse on the flyers that have been going around.

Indeed, IMO thats a pretty damn good lineup for ragweek, and kudos to the ents officer(mabye mediasoc too) for getting them.

There's also Big Brother in a Car!
Breaking the World Record for the Largest Water Fight on Tuesday!
    A St. Paddys Day Parade
    Welly Tossing

aw lads buck up...it's all in good spirit! If the music aint to ya taste, maybe the drink'll be!

Given the choice of goign to see picturehouse or watching that Jimmet Bennet film i really have no idea what i'd do, prob watch the film as though as these are possibly the worst excuse for a band ever... Although i may be persuaded to go only if a) they play their jingle from the centra ad...
and b) to see all the pretty first years

Ceennntrrraa ffuuurrr the waaaaayyyy we live tudaaaayyyy...

Whats the featured charity for Rag Week this year?

    Seanie.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 525 ✭✭✭ya-what-now?

Don't quote me, but I think it's something to do with suicide bereavement or something!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,082 ✭✭✭Feathers

Just to clarify, ya-what-now? is right - the RAG charity this year is Turas le Cheile. It is a suicide bereavement support service. It seemed a pertinent charity considering how Maynooth has been affected by suicide in recent years. It is also a local charity, based just up the road from us in Kilcock.

    Right.

I have it on good info that there's only 30 or so tickets left for Thurs Night.

Monday and Thursday are already sold out.

Do you need a ticket to go to the SU on Monday night? Or do you just need one to get into the Venue? I've missed the bar ex but I still wanna go for a few scoops!

Ticket is for the Bar-Ex, so whole building. You'll probably be alright til about half eight-ish but after that you'll need a ticket.

Not entirely! In past Rags there have been some great charities helped with loads of dosh. I think in Rag Week '98, almost £12,000 was raised for Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children - that was a whopping amount of money back then.

It was 8 years ago not 80 but yeah that's an impressive amount. I don't see the likes of that being raised again even with so many more students about campus.

Well as of a few minutes ago, the only bar ex that still has a few tickets available is Tuesday's Hollywood Bar Ex, and there's less than 30 left of those!

Complete sell out of all RAG week Bar Exs, has this EVER happened before, or at least in recent times?

yeah true, its never really happened before.

ACtually apart from last year, every rag week was a seel out and the used to raise a hell of alot more money, back 98-2001, over
£12,000 each year, there's been a severe lack of fundraising over the last couple of years, no real events aimed to soley raise money- yes while the bar-exs are sold out? how much cash goes to the chairty per ticket sold? any?? And also when costs are balanced off against the money paid to bands (bands are quite **** this year so prob won't cost too mcuh), how much goes to the charity.

Pretty poor showing all round. Priorities askew.

Didn't end up going near the LA, but spent a good while in casualty in Blanchardstown tonight! A mate of mine slipped in the venue and cracked her head off the floor...

The week goes from strength to strength!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭*Roisin*

That's awful, the SU has been an accident waiting to happen for the last week tho. Rugs in the middle of the dance floor, that curl up at the corners to kill you, or puddles everywhere that you can slip on, and that's even before you get to the drunken people that like to push the little folk over.

That said I'm very drunken right now and I had a DEADLY night out in the su. DJ was very good, n the bands in the venue didn't suck at all. Wasn't over packed either, just comfortable.

Good good, drunken shenanigan night over all....

    Drink on.

You should have come to the Glenroyal after with us, it was free in (i'm not joking- it's the only way i'd go to it)

Full of people it was and for once my old-ness wasn't annoyed too much by the music (until the very end-when they went crappy dance ala country roads and maniac) Was vastly superior to the ****e played in Bradys where the DJ (and i'm using DJ in the most loose sense of the phrase) plays the same mix-cd, albeit on shuffle, every night. Talk about a glorified juke-box of, and lets face it alot of ****e music...

Back to the glenroyal, i also saw a girl that looked like the pretty blonde doctor from scrubbs, and then i went home.
