I am a student in Oscail (DCU). Can I play in this event?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32 Humer

You certainly can. We should be advertising in DCU and selling tickets there by the start of next week. We had a few DCU guys near enough the final tble last year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32 Humer

Tickets are available from humer@tcd.ie. They are currently being distributed in Trinity College but will probably be available on other college campuses soon.

Humer, this sequence of blinds could turn the game into a crapshoot at an early stage. Doubling the blinds is never a good idea e.g. after 200/400, it should go to 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, etc. I understand that you might be under time constraints in the Gresham, but if you can avoid this sequence, you should.

Also, make sure that your rebuys chips are incremental i.e. first rebuy gets T1800, second gets T2100, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭Mmmm_Lemony

Will a rebuy be the same as a starting stack?

Maybe others will feel different about this but it might be an idea to increase the rebuy period, as an hour seems very short with 20 minute blinds. And after one of the breaks or at some point increase the levels to 30 minutes. Depending on the numbers it might also be an idea to freeze the blinds in the later stages.

P.S. You might get in trouble here if you don't post the full requirements as stated here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Norwich Fan Rob

1500 starting stack with those blinds is gonna lead to rebuy fest.

The poor old rocks with have no chance.

How about a student from NUI Galway living in Dublin at the moment?

    Incremental Rebuys
We're more than likely to leave rebuys at the same as starting stacks (1500). It will make it easier for us to do the chip count at the end.

    Blind Structure
As for the structure it will probably be altered though we're not sure in what way. The event is under time constraints and it is a choice between the blinds going up fast either early or late in the competition. I'm looking for better play near the final table so blinds will be less harsh there and more harsh at the start.

    Players
Anyone who is a student is welcome to play no matter what college or what age. You must join the society to play however which will be €2. This is not the Reg fee.

Will you be able to register on the night provided you have your student card?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32 Humer

You'll be able to register with a student card. We sold the event out in advance last year and we expect to do the same again this year.
    Reg Fee.
The Tournament will be a €17 + €3 Registration Fee. The same will come out of Rebuys and top ups. We know this is alot but the costs of hosting this event are pretty high.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭POKERKING

how much of prizefund you takin?last year was scandalous you paid out 6.5k but took in 270 (no of players) by 20 (entry) plus everyone either had a rebuy or top up or both or more i dont wana go into the particulars but that is an unbeliveable rake along with the 2€ you had to pay to register...also youll need to fill in exact details of sticky not just blind levels its same rule for everybody...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭Mmmm_Lemony

Was this the same entry & reg fee as last year year, and how do I go about advance payment for the ticket?

Also, I think it might be a good idea to answer all the questions asked in the sticky, TD, all that kind of stuff. The mods here are very strict about that stuff, but if you don't have an answer, I don't think they would mind* if you put 'to be confirmed' or something similar, and update it when you do know. There are 21 questions in all.

*I might be wrong about this though :D

    Humer,

I apreciate what you're trying to do here. However, with a total entry fee of E20 paying E4,400 for a venue sounds absolutly mad!!!!! Surely this is aprox 50% of total money in??????? Would it not be possible to scource a GAA hall or something FOC and put this money into prize pool (or if you want to give it away then give it to charity.........but don't give it to a hotel.

Also the structure will cause problms ......... If you want some help with the structure pm me and I'll be glad to help.

I'm not getting at you........ I know whwt it's like putting a big event together.

I'm presuming that plc colleges i.e. colaiste dhulaigh will be ok to attend?
Also, before the event does it normally sell out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭POKERKING

any college can play if its same as last year in fact there were a few there last year that wernt even students so no need to worry there....the 270 sold out fairly quick last year but since then there are umpteen tournaments on every day all over the place so i reckon itd be tricky enough to fill it this year thats just my 2 cents im sure humer will answer you or email him!

    The Venue
The Hotel is very expensive but it's the only place we could find that seats 450 people in a fairly central location. It does take €3 out of every entry, top up and rebuy but we don't really have that many other options. Our deposit is down so we have to run with it now.

    Chip Count

There will be a chip count on the final table along with verification of numbers of rebuys and top ups. The event will be as transparent as possible and we have enlisted the help of POKEREVENTS.IE to ensure we have full credibility to run the tournament as effectively as possible.

    Sponsorship

The event has been kindly sponsored by BoylePoker.com who are adding Tickets and online credit to the value of €1650 to the prize fund. There will be 10 €50+€15 tickets the Boylepoker sattelites, along with one €500 ticket to The Boyle Poker Dublin Cup and €500 of online credit.

    Players

All students from all colleges are encouraged to play and will be given slight priority over non students when it comes to selling tickets. We especially encourage people from Universities and colleges in the country to come and play in the tournament. Carlow IT, UCC, and NUIG are all sending players up. The more the merrier. If you want to book tickets contact humer@tcd.ie with your name contact details and the number of tickets you are looking for.

    Cheers

To give the Tournament more credibility we have decided to change the Tournament Director from myself Rob Hume, to Stephen McLean who runs tournaments with POKEREVENTS.ie. He will also be conducting the chip count at the final table to garauntee the event is completely transparent.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to confirm that this will be a 100% prize-pool payout tournament....

The entry and re-buy/add-on costs 17euro +3euro (registration). The entire 17euro will go into the prize pool.

Rob Hume and all the guys in the Trinity Poker Society have put in a massive amount of effort to organise this event but only the 3euro registration will be used to cover expenses.

450 participants are expected to attend this event.

There will be a chip confirmation at the final table to ensure that all the chips in play account for all of the monees in the prize-pool.

See you all Wednesday March 1st,
Gresham Hotel, O'Connell Street at 5:30pm.
    Stephen Mc Lean.

All tickets, on-line credit and promotional payouts will NOT be taken out of the prizepool. These are added courtesy of boylepoker. The total value added to the pool is a minimum of €1650. This makes it extremely good value for the players. There will be several freerolls @www.boylepoker.com in the few days before the event with top players awarded free entry to the championship event.
Pokerevents will be providing a director for the event as well as a table and dealer for the final table.

starting stacks and blinds are a joke.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32 Humer

The starting stacks of 1500 and blinds have been put in place to deal with time constraints given by the hotel. We are not playing in a casino and have a time at which we have to vacate the room on thursday morning.

Also we are currently discussing with BoylePoker, the idea of running the final table the next evening in the Gresham Hotel if we are being constrained by time. Hopefully this would promote better play at the final table.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭[DM]Frink

Are ye paying out 10% of the people that turn up??? Are these "dealers" there all day or just the final 8 tables? Is this "tournament" self dealing???

I playin in this tourney on wednesday but I'm in work on Thursday so you better not have the final table then because I will be making that final table!!! P.S. whats up with the starting stack????? If you are gonna have the final table on Thursday have the startin stack more......If you don't Im just tellin anyone who is one my table I'll be callin your hands with cards like 2-4 off, hopin to hit a straight, get lucky and DOG your asses!!!! Woof Woof!!!!

Humer you wrote you want better play on the final table how will that be possible if the blinds dont slow down?? There will be loads of player with chips under pressure to go all in, thats not poker!!!!!! I put money on it that by 9pm nearly everyone will going all in becasue the blind willl have caught up with everyones stacks!!! Woof!! Woof!! Woof!! Woof!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 446 ✭✭pppspecial

last years tourny had quite a few non students playing in the field. will u guys be strict on who enters the tournament. i love to play poker and this tourny is right up my street in regards finances.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32 Humer

There will quite likely be a few non students playing though the vast majority will be in college. We will have no problem letting non students play on the night though tickets are limited so it will be first come first serve.

We will most likely be paying out the final two tables which wouldn't make the 10% of the 270 field.

Dealers will not be dealing from the start but in the later stages.

If the tournament shows no sign of finnishing on time it will most likely carry on the next day in the Gresham in conjunction with the Boylepoker €50 + €15 tournament.

How many numbers you got so far ? Thinking of heading on down tommorow, or should i prebook tickets with ye now ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32 Humer

    Starting Stacks

To improve play we have taken the decision to have starting stacks at 2000.It will then be 2000 for rebuys and 3000 for a top up.

    Reservations

It would probably be wise to book your ticket in advance at humer@tcd.ie stating your name and the number of tickets you are looking for. There is not likely to be many tickets left on the door after tomorrows selling so it is advised to secure you're ticket in advance.

Registration will begin at 5.30 in the Gresham with Cards being dealt at 6.
