    360 Waterford-Tramore (new 360A service)

    249 Garrettstwon-Kinsale-Airport-Cork (combined with 226/A)

    226 Kent Station-Parnell Place-Airport-Kinsale (new 226A)

The 252 should have been included in the combined 226/A timetable. Folk might think there's no Airport-Kinsale service leaving the airport between 1025 and 1125 when one does just that at 1050.

Services starting to return to normal but still major backlogs with services up to 3h50m late. On going signalling problems at Cherryville also causing problems.

A very costly afternoon for them, and yet again our rail network comes to a complete standstill, rumours online that it was not a breakdown but the heat buckled part of the line which would make sense as hours after the machines was moved services are still taking 90 minutes to travel between stations, even though when normal breakdowns happen everything starts moving quiet quickly.

    • 3hrs 45 mins from city to city
    • 4hrs 10 mins from Cork to Dublin Airport
    • Non-stop from Cashel to Newlands Cross
Following customer feedback, Bus Éireann has revised its Cork city-Dublin city-Dublin Airport X8 Expressway service to provide a city to city journey time of 3 hours 45 minutes.

The revised X8, which comes into effect from 15 September 2013, will have a journey time of 4 hours 10 minutes from Cork to Dublin Airport, and 3 hours 45 minutes from Cork city to Dublin city. All services will operate to and from Cork via the M8 and there will be no stops between Cashel and Newlands Cross.

The revised X8 will operate six times a day in each direction. It will serve Cork (Parnell Bus Station), Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Cahir, Cashel, Newlands Cross, Heuston Station, Eden Quay, Busaras and Dublin Airport.

    From 15 September 2013, the X8 will operate from Cork at 0800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600 and 1800.

    From 15 September 2013, the X8 will operate from Dublin Airport at 0730, 0930, 1130, 1330, 1530 and 1730. Services will operate from Busaras at 0800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600 and 1800.

From 15 September 2013, the X8 will no longer serve Portlaoise or Urlingford. Bus Éireann continues to provide 12 services a day in each direction from Portlaoise to Dublin city on its Expressway Route 12 and 12X services with 10 of these services in each direction also operating to Dublin Airport. In addition, other rail and coach alternatives are available from Portlaoise.

The National Transport Authority will provide a replacement bus service from Portlaoise to Urlingford and Cashel and is finalising the details of that service. Customers using the new NTA service could then connect to a range of coach and rail services to and from Dublin city in Portlaoise.

Bus Éireann would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by these changes.

New 63-seater coaches will be operating on Route X8 with improved customer facilities including free Wi-Fi, power sockets at selected seats, ISOFIX attachment points for child safety seats, and extra comfort seating.
“Following customer feedback, we have made these changes to Route X8 to ensure that we continue to meet the customer demand for reduced journey times and services to Dublin Airport by having a limited number of stops and making greater use of the M8,” said Andrew McLindon, PR Manager, Bus Éireann.

Reduced DART service today, and possibly beyond

    http://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/shorter-darts-lead-to-overcrowding-for-commuters-1.1560110
Commuters on Dublin’s Dart line are experiencing shorter, busier trains today as capacity has been reduced by half due to a “driver issue”.
Irish Rail apologised to passengers for the reduced capacity this morning due to what it described as a “a refusal by drivers to carry out a coupler check before Dart trains leave the depot to enter service”.
This had led to a reduction in the number of carriages on peak trains to two and four carriages, it said in a statement.
The trains were “significantly shorter” in the order of 50 per cent of normal peak capacity, Irish Rail spokesman Barry Kenny said. It would usually run with a combination of eight six and four carriage trains. Mr Kenny said 75 per cent of trains were four carriage and 25 per cent of trains were two carriage.
The company was operating some additional services and was checking if the commuter trains could stop at some extra stations, he told RTÉ.
The check drivers were asked to carry out was “temporary” because a modification on the fleet would address the issue, the company said.
Drivers had been carrying it out since last month but union Siptu had told the company drivers would no longer co-operate with the check, Irish Rail said. Drivers today began not carrying out the check, it said.
The check by divers “verifies that an electrical connection is complete through the train when multiple Dart units are connected together”, Irish Rail said.
This check is needed because of incidents where drivers get false indications on door interlocking, it said.
Mr Kenny said the check takes “about a minute” as a member of staff goes to the rear of the train to open the door and the driver verifies that a light goes out in the cab. It does not add to the length of the working day, he said.
He said the company would be talking to drivers again today so evening peak would not be impacted.
Last month the company reduced the number of carriages on off-peak DART services has as part of an Iarnród Éireann plan to save €3.2 million in annual fuel and maintenance costs. Dart trains had been either four or six carriages in length but this was cut to two between 10am and 4 pm and after 7pm every weekday.

More CIE/Union nonsense that as usual hits the commuting public hardest.
It's very simple, if these drivers are refusing to carry out basic/essential safety checks then sack them and replace them with those who will.

Absolutely ridiculous that unions/staff can hold companies and the public to ransom like this. If I decided I wasn't going to do a essential part of my job, I wouldn't be long finding myself in front of HR.

And then people wonder why so many people drive?

How else do you suggest that they decommission the old signalling system, test and commission the new signalling system?

They need 3 days to do all that - it also involves new track work at Clongriffen.

your missing my point about train capacity in general / reduced carriage numbers .

also doing it the weekend of the Dublin City Marathon not ideal for anyone traveling into the City Centre

There is never a good time to do major engineering works - there will always be a reason not to do it. It has to be a bank holiday weekend as they need 3 days.

As for the capacity - this is planning for both the present and the future. It will deliver reliability improvements as the space between signals is shortened and will enable overtaking to take place at Clongriffin if needed, and will through subsequent phases allow more trains over the loop line bridge, and facilitate better turnarounds at Grand Canal Dock.

All of this contributes towards better reliability but also future proofs towards increased capacity when the economy recovers. Or should we not plan ahead for that?

again ignoring my point , so what if the trains are arriving on time if its full before it pulls up at my stop due to reduced carriages , what good does it do me or anyone else at my stop .....

That is a completely separate issue - this is a resignalling project that will improve punctuality, increase line capacity, allow for overtaking on the northern line, and allow for a far better service in the long run. It has nothing to do with the shortened trains whatsoever. Projects like this require the line to be closed - that is a fact of life.

But I will repeat what I have posted elsewhere - if the trains are full, and people are being left behind then they should be longer - full stop. That is completely unacceptable. I have never said anything to the contrary.

As for the final comment - I really don't think there's a need for personal insults - read the forum charter.

it's not an insult its a legitimate question , you seem to have a lot of knowledge regarding the planning , strategy and implementation of works / services .

either that or your really enthusiastic about trains :D

on a side note i would like to commend Irishrail for listening to customer feedback , I messaged them on twitter on Monday of this week to highlight that there were no trains to pearse from the southside on Monday 28th before 9am which as the marathon is on and starts at 920am would have been a bit of hassle for people traveling in , they have subsequently added an earlier dart to account for this , nicely done ;) appreciate it
