I find that more to be the exception rather than the rule and only if its a big delay to service .

I passed through Coolmine level crossing this morning around 10:15am. An Irish Rail guy was operating the crossing manually. He cleared the crossing on the phone declaring it 'clear and safe for trains.'

He said that a cable had been severed somewhere in the area. The team to fix it were due there around 11am.

Hedgecutters had made a right mess of the cables during the night.

Well TBH most people still cut until May before stopping but if caught it will cost you, possibly IE had it done for safety reasons considering the weather earlier in the week which would makes it fine to cut.

Those wires should be underground in the first place or covered like from Heuston.

I had encountered this problem again while waiting on the DART at Seapoint this morning. I had seen three Darts and a Intercity Train to Rosslare on the other track while on my way to Sandymount.

    http://www.irishrail.ie/cat_news.jsp?i=4833&p=116&n=237

Also, the traffic was bad again along Monkstown Road, Newtownpark Avenue leading into Blackrock this morning.

It was only a month ago that this problem was fixed and now it is happened again.

You would have to think about the impact of bridge strikes as well as vehicles hitting level crossing's.

In terms of running IE, another bridge strike incident which happened at Connolly Station at around 7:30pm last night probably meant, coupled with what happened at Merrion Gates earlier that morning, that yesterday had it's worse day ever for the DART/Commuter service so far this year.

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2013/0528/453143-irish-rail-bridges/

These trains were running half an hour late before 5pm & beyond before this had happened. It is pure stupidity.

At least some of the problems with bridges are caused by resurfacing of the road surface and not amending the heights afterwards.

Maybe the relevant road authorities should be obliged to put a date under the signs on the approaches indicating when it was last measured.

17.55 Rosslare to Connolly changes to 19.15 from 4 June.

The incident at Merrion on Monday saw somebody plough down one of the lifting mechanisms of the gate itself. Considering that it's well away from the road it was a huge big miss to make by a motorist.

Services to/from Heuston have resumed with delays of up to 60 minutes after another bridge strike (fifth in 4 days) between Newbridge and Kildare. This time it wasn't a truck for a change.

Whilst there is no event in relation to the G8 Summit taking place in the Republic of Ireland, An Garda Síochána is conscious of the close proximity of the event to this jurisdiction and are working with our colleagues in the Police Service of Northern Ireland to address any policing or security issues that may arise prior to, during and post holding the Summit.

As with any high profile event attended by world leaders, there is a heightened threat/risk, however An Garda Síochána will have appropriate resources in place to ensure the security and wellbeing of the delegates and the community of the North West Region.

In the event of any protest, our focus will be to facilitate peaceful protest and ensure the safety of all concerned. Gardaí would urge any organisation that plan to protest to contact the local Superintendent in the area in advance in order to facilitate their peaceful protest.

At the present time there are no plans in place in respect of road closures or diversions in this jurisdiction.

We are advising persons residing or travelling through the Region, particularly in the areas of South Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan to be aware of the possibility of vehicle security checks on roads leading to the event site, to expect delays and to adjust their travel arrangements accordingly. While no significant traffic delays are expected, we would urge people travelling during the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday the 17th & 18th of June to allow extra time for their journey.
