Addional Buses in Cork City during Peak Times

Cork City Commuters to Benefit from Bus Éireann Trial of Additional Buses at Peak Times and Free-Flow Monitoring During Wednesdays in November
    - An Garda Siochana to monitor free flow on no 6 and no 8 routes during “Bus Wednesday” pilot

Bus Éireann, in conjunction with Cork City Council, An Garda Siochana and Cork Business Association, is to run an innovative pilot scheme on each Wednesday in November that will reduce journey times and increase capacity during peak hours on two of the most popular bus routes in and out of Cork city.

The “Bus Wednesdays” pilot scheme will see extra buses servicing the no 6 service (Grange to South Mall) and the no 8 service (Bishoptown to Mayfield) between 7.30am and 9.30am, and 4.30pm and 6.30pm. In addition, extra Gardai will be put in place to ensure that there is a free flow of traffic on these routes.

The pilot scheme will run on November 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th.

“This pilot is designed to show Cork city commuters the benefits of travelling by bus not only in terms of speed and convenience, but also how economical it can be compared to driving to work and the costs involved in paying for petrol or diesel and parking. We would hope that the people of Cork who live on these routes will take this opportunity to support the service on the Wednesdays in November,” said Joe Fitzgerald, Regional Manager, Bus Éireann.

To make travelling on the bus even more attractive Bus Éireann is currently offering a Cork City Daysaver ticket, which offers unlimited travel on all Bus Eireann Cork city routes on the day of purchase for just €4.
