    Hi All,

I built this machine about two years ago. It does fine for what I want really (I dont game as much as I used to, but have started a bit recently), but I've started looking at all the shiney new stuff coming out recently and my fingers are itching to do a new build. But how much would this rig be worth in today's money?

Chieftech Aluminium Dragon Case (lots of room, and all aluminium. Has the in-built front panel Firewire and USB ports)
BeQuiet! 450W Colourline Ultra Silent PSU (blue LEDs on the fans. Very nice PSU, rock solid and very quiet)
    Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
P4 Northwood 3.0 GHz (Nice little clocker. At 3.6GHz and stable for past 18 months)
    1GB OCZ PC3700 Gold Edition Rev.2 (running at 1:1 2.5,3,3,7)
Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Flashed to XT)
    Innovatek watercooling kit
1x 120mm fan on single rad
    X-Flow CPU block
    Innovatek GPU block for 9800
    In-line thermometer
Coolermaster Cooldrive 4 (linked to in-line sensor and controls fan RPM. Was great when the whole thing was on air!)
    Seagate Barracuda (120GB IDE)
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB (recent addition SATA)
LG GSA-4040B DVD±RW/DVD±R DVD-RAM Drive. Have sprayed it silver to match the case http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=150307

Additional front panel unit for headphones/mic/USB/Firewire and joystick from FrontX.

I was running the whole thing on air with no problems for about a year using a Zalman 7000 AlCu on the CPU and an Arctic Cooler on the 9800. I went with the watercooling 'cause I always wanted to try it, and the Arctic Cooler was getting very noisy! The fact that I can get this overclock on a very low vCore helped alot when on air too I guesss :)

I think the weakest point is the graphics card, but I don't know whether I should just upgrade that, or maybe sell the whole lot and build a new (I would love to, but I'd be killed), or keep it as a server and just build anyway (also a dangerous move)! :D

Anyhoo, how much do ya reckon?

Steppen - I'd say about 350-400. Sounds shocking, I know, but these days the likes of Dell and Pc World offer basic Celeron M processor laptops for as little as 499 inc delivery and vat. As well as that, your celeron d chip will run alot hotter and be more battery heavy then the newer Celeron Ms. Also, your integrated Radeon IGP is now vastly outdated by the successor X200 integrated chip which features in the cheaper laptops models.

Tuner - I'd imagine about 250 here on boards with monitor, probably a bit more on buy and sell or the like. Being in an old Compaq case isn't going to help your price either :D

inode - the graphics card and hd let it down majorly. Not worth more then about 300

Although we all know lads theres a huge difference between the actual value of computer and what you can flog it for on buyandsell :D

    Good video editing machine.
For heavy editing consider getting a cache backed raid card tho will improve your latency.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 75 ✭✭bs217

The H8DCE board is based on the nVidia nForce Pro 2200 & 2050 chipsets and has a built-in SATA2 RAID controller - do you think a separate PCIe card based RAID setup would be better?

Be curious to know how much you think it's worth.
