What do you collect?

Simple as that. Do you collect anything? It could be anything from StarWars action figures to good looking womens phone numbers, from stamps to interesting pieces of snot you picked. whatever!

Me personally I collect euro-zone coins. I won't rest easy until I have all 8 denominations for the 20 countries! And of course by the time I get them all those easternblock countries will probably have their own coins too meaning I'll never catch up. Don't know how I started as I don't collect any other coins and I don't go out of my way to complete the set (ie 'buying' coins). I just check my change to see if I got a 'need' this time round just like back in the days of football stickers. Plus when you consider I'll probably never get any of the Andorra/Vatican/SanMarino ones anyway it's all seems kinda pointless really.

So what you collect? The more pointless and weird the better. Post them here.

I collect pin badges, I've been collecting for about 3 years but I've only got around 40 coz I've lost a few (as I used to wear them on me coat).
They're mostly the ones for charity, (Angel faces are my favourite) but I have some others as well.

love angel faces - they are so cute!! got one of a girl with a lil guitar at the weekend

You should travel to those places and get the coins there :) That'd be cool, to have a reason to go, and when you come back, you have something to remember with, like a completed task/challenge :)

    I don't really collect anything... I'm boring :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,327 ✭✭✭Nasty_Girl

At one point i had two red haired girls, a blonde boy, a black boy, a blonde girl, a silver glittery haired boy with a harp, a blue haired girl with roller skates and i think my sister's got me another over the weekend so I dunno what that one is like.

sadly I've only about 3 left now after the others fell off my coat.

I don't really collect anything. I just keep mementos, Metro tickets from Paris/Barcelona, cinema tickets, tickets to matches, theme parks, etc etc. I have stuff from over 10 years ago, like my first trip to Disney Land, it's kind of cool to be able to look back at the stuff you've done with just a slip of paper.

Im the same, since the introduction of the euro have always takent out the "foriegners" & put them in a jar, have quite a few now.

However Ive only once seen a backing board to stick em into for sale, was some punter standing in liffey valley selling them for I think €50, I asked him if he had one that didnt include the coins. He said they werent included in this one. At €50 for essentially a piece of cardboard I left him with it. I would have thought they would have been commonplace by now.

I collected enough Dart tickets to make a deck of cards + jokers.
And now I collect Blue Note albums. Slightly better payoff with the music I think...

I spose that ain't a good one really... other than that, I do collect old coins. I have over 150 (old) 1 english penny coins, over 150 (old) 1/2 english penny coins, about 20 english shillings, and loads of various other coins. Dating back to 1796.

I have a fairly large collection of monkey related toys...

I don't buy them myself... people tend to give them to me as gifts for some reason.

    WHY?

    WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT???

Not a coin collector myself, but I do have two baggies (€100 each in value or so) containing (brand new-never used) € notes & coins of the first batch to ever roll out of the French mint (note numbers like 0000000011 or somesuch) ;) - 'tis for the daughter, so don't go asking or pm'ing :D

Used to collect videogame hardware (portable only, criteria was "with interchangeable games only", so e.g. Original Gameboy & competitor's, but not Game & Watch LCD-type thingies), but got bored/obsessive (:D ) so flogged the lot back on eBay (about £2,500's worth).

Now just clinging to my full collection of EDGE magazines (since Apr 1994, issue #0, if memory serves me right). Not really a collection, mind, but worth the look on the face of a typical Playstation-generation kid when they see how long this kinda stuff's been around and where did it all come from, in some detail... ;) (Oh, and of course - 'tis for the daughter also, so don't go asking or pm'ing :D )

When I was a wee lad my dad used to go away to Brussels on business quite a bit and every time he'd come back with a Kinder egg, so I started collecting the toys out of them.

At one stage I had a Twix box filled with them, and that was decorated with Garbage Pale Kid stickers so I guess I collected them too.

I reckon I had well over a hundred and at one stage I even started writing a novel about the little blighters! (I was around nine but I'm pretty sure it was a classic).

Nah, they were after my time.

I had a few Vikings and cars. Lots of cars. Also, some weird stuff like swings and little games. I'm not sure if that Twix box is still around. I'll have a look when I get home.

As a couple of posters before me have also mentioned I collect the ticket stubs. From the cinema mostly but also from concerts and travel. I have hundreds of beano comics too but that's more a case of being too lazy to get rid of them rather than collecting them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 944 ✭✭✭NoDayBut2Day

I used to collect figurines of horses or unicorns; I was really into stuff like that. Now I just save my monthly bus passes (don't know why...) and movie ticket stubs. Just for fun... not like it's worth anything besides memories.. hahaha.

I am currently buying packs of Hecatomb cards every chance I get. I thought I'd gotten over the CCG phase and become a responsible, intelligent individual, but this game has proven me wrong. :(

I'm not sure if I should call it a collection, because it makes me sound quite mad, but I have many, many rubber ducks.

As a kid Pighead with the help of his mothers purse collected Roy of The Rovers and tree of Knowledge religiously. In the attic at home there are at least 300 issues of Roy of The Rovers gathering dust.

Pighead couldn't get enough of Hotshot Hamish. The lad was a legend, give him the ball and he'd not only score from 50 yards but hed also rip the back of the net wide open with the sheer ferocity of his shooting.
    Here he is. http://www.dangerhere.com/issues/issue28-261101/Hotshot_Hamish.jpg

The tree of knowledge helped shape Pighead into the brilliant lad you see before you today. A weekly encyclopedia that was almost collected in its entirety by my good self.Unfortunately missed one week as punishment after Mother Pig decided to punish me for pissing on her tulips.Stupid Sow

I collect books in general but I do have a decent collection of antique cookery books. I also seek out items from the year that I was born and also from the year that my parents were born - have a bottle of vintage port, several annuals etc. I also collect Steiff and Herman teddy bears/animals - my childhood favorite toy was an a Steiff squirrel which I ate the hands off...it would have been worth a fortune if I had kept it in good shape but I am still glad that I was allowed to have it as a playtoy

Do you have mogwai (sp?)? They are adorable - one of my best friends can do a great impression of one, he can even do the eyes. The Gremlins were really cool also.

I had most of them. I build a little island for them in a planter tray out of things I'd collected from the beach and they lived on my window sill.
