  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

cod2,bf2 etc on atleast medium... at atleast 1024x768 lol im pretty sure it will run them at that..

Don't get the 6200 or the x700 if you want to game. It will play new games alright, but not great, and they are not future proof in the slightest.

    x800 definately.

thought just as much :) thanks

Yeah you see thats a problem as im only 15... and dont have a couple of thousand lol!

If you are into overclocking, go for a athlon 64 system they are brilliant overclockers, or and opteron 144 (socket939) they overclock to 2.6ghz on air and more on water cooling and they are only €145 and get some good dual channel memory OCZ or Corsair, and as for graphics cards i would go nvidia for SLI as you can upgrade for small money and nearly double the graphics power.

Look at this, its a athlon 64 3000 overclocked with pc3200 dual channel ram (OCZ platinium rev 2)

    specs5em.th.jpg

as you can see it beats a Pentium 4 extreme edition 840, which is €1,020, and that AMD CPU is only €140

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

hmm im not mad into overclocking...i dont really know what to do lol!

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

i didnt either but with a athlon 64 system it is ezey peezy. there are more guides than you can shake a stick at online and where better to start than forums.amd.com a brilliant site run by amd and you will get more than enough help here just put "overclock athlon 64" into google and you will know how to do it within an hour:D . it is very hard to damage anything if you are careful and always check for stability by running benchmarks and your favourite games

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

kool lol but i just priced a system and i came out a good bit more cash... lol and i just dont have enough :(

ok gimmie your budget and I will have a look, and tell me what you want a gig of ram, SLI?,........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

My budget is around 670... without monitor as i just got the monitor today.. and yeah just a good system basically and i will be encoding dvds so i will most likey need a p4.

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

Ok, Opterons have san diego cores, that is the same core as the fx 57, which is the mother of all processers, They are just as good as P4 for encoding and better for you as you want to game also, so i am going to price an amd system because you get more for less money. If you are an intel fanboy i reccommend a
good dose of forums.amd.com very friendly people and great craic:D :D:D:D

    Does that 670 include case,fans, psu, cd/dvd drive/ hard drive/....
Because 670 is a bit tight to even make a budget system it is ok if it is just the main components

    CPU/MOBO.RAM/G CARD

Because 670 is a bit tight to even make a budget system

Why not spend thge 670 now and get a nice g card for christmas ?, or get your parents to get you some parts and then spend the money you have now on other parts

    If it were my money:
    (from komplett)

    AMD Opteron 144, 1.8GHz, Socket 939, 1MB, BOXED w/fan
    EPoX EP-9NPA7I, nForce4-4x, Socket-939 ATX, 4xS-ATA, LAN, Sound, PCI-Ex16
    Samsung SpinPoint P120S 200GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM NCQ
    TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB CL2.5 Memory184-P (for DDR-PC400MHz)
NEC DVD recorder ND-3550 IDE White OEM DVD+R/+RW/DVD-R/-RW (Dual layer)
    AKASA Powersupply ATX/EPS 12V 400W 120mm Fan, SATA, 24/20pin
    Club3D Radeon X800RX 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express, Dual-DVI-I, Tv-Out, Retail
    Total: €702.51 + €10 postage

Bit over budget, but I dont think you can beat that spec for that price :)

You didnt mention a case, so I assume you have one already.

That opteron is equivalent to a 3.4ghz P4 (ish) and if you overclock it, it'll be much much quicker. It'll be fine for encoding DVDs.

The Samsung drives are better than Maxtors.

    1gb of decent memory.

The Akasa power supply is excellent quality.

That X800 is a good value card with good speed ram.

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

Yeah that is about as good as ya get for 700€ but that ram leaves no room for overclocking, you will have to either get pc4000 ram, or good overclocking pc3200 ram like OCZ platinium rev 2 which is 209€ but has a liftime warranty, and overclocks up to 600mhz

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Lol na i dont have a case i was just gonna buy this and get them to customise it with the x800 http://www.ankermann-pc.co.uk/ second system on the homepage...

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

not bad, make sure you get the PCI-EXPRESS version and not the agp version

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Could someone price me an opteron system without gfx??? with atleast 1gig ram,200gb sata

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,662 ✭✭✭savemejebus

komplett have an x850 pro for 240 from tomorrow, will probably beat the 6600 even with the 512

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

    Here is an opty system:

    opteron 144 (€145) komplett
Asus a8n-e (€99) brilliant overclocking board, komplett
    OCZ Platinium rev 2 pc3200 (€209) from www.shop4memory.ie
Cooler Master Real Power 450W (€99) komplett
    NEC DVD±RW burner (€45)
    Samsung SpinPoint P120S 200GB (€99) komplett

    Total= €696

If you want sli go for asus A8n sli deluxe extra €50
You can just use the onboard divider

Using a memory divider causes a bottle neck and sometimes instability, memory divider should always be set to 1:1 for best performance

since when does it cause instability?? ive used dividers on some of systems and its fine, just means ram isnt working at full speed. Also dont get a coolermaster psu

Wrong. Totally wrong infact. Dividers are fine, in 939 systems anyway.

    I wouldnt bother with a 512mb 6600. The 512mb is wasted.

It causes instability in athlon xp systems anyway, But you should always have it at 1:1 where possible if you have to lower it because your ram cant handle the speed you know you have bought the wrong ram, you have to buy faster ram or good overclocking ram and keep the htt as high as possible even if you have to loosen timings, I only told him to buy a cooler master because he is working to a tight budget and they are a lot better than the un branded c*** that comes with most cases. Buy a hiper 4K580 instead for another €25 if you can afford it

the fortron bluestorm from pixmania is supposed to be a very good budget psu

Conzy would that be an excellent system???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭commited

    If it was my €700..

    AMD Opteron 144, 1.8GHz, Socket 939, 1MB, BOXED w/fan - €145
    EPoX EP-9NPAJ, nForce4, Socket-939 ATX, 4xSATA/ATA, GbLAN, DDR, PCI-Ex16 - €86
    AKASA Powersupply ATX/EPS 12V 400W 120mm Fan, SATA, 24/20pin - €68
    NEC DVD±RW burner, ND-3550A, 16x, Dual, Silver OEM - €45.5
    Samsung SpinPoint P120S 250GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM NCQ - €121
    Corsair TWINX1024-4400C25 DDR-DIMM 1024M Kit w/two matched CMX512-4400 CL2.5 DIMM - €219
    Total: 684.5 + €10 for del :)

Opteron will clock well, The epox is a great board for stability & OC'ing, good power supply, well regarded DVD-rw, 250gb hdd space & that all important very fast 1gb of ram (although I'd prefer to get 2gb of slightly slower ram, and use the divider).

Just waiting for my ma to come back and get her cc to order that ram :D

Edit: That mobo can only support up to 3200 if i get the ram will it just make it run at 3200?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,662 ✭✭✭savemejebus

off topic: thanks for the heads up on that ram commited, was going to order it from crucial, you just saved me 50 euro. cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

im just bout to order it jebus... will it work with that mobo or would it be better to get a mobo that can support 4000?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,662 ✭✭✭savemejebus

the ram will slow down to run at the boards speed, but when you're overclocking you'll be able to take advantage of the extra speed.

unoverclocked it will run at 400mhz (pc 3200)- 200 front side bus/htt for amd BUT at fantastic timings - 2-2-2-5 so really fast!

overclocked it will run at 500mhz - 250 front side bus/htt for amd which will allow you to overclock more, and take advantage of the opteron

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

kool just ordered it.. :D anyone know usually how long it takes shop4memory to deliver?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭commited
