That is really nice. I dont do enough modern armour meself (at the moment im stuck weathering a heap of train carriges for a friend of mine:( )
Can I make a constructive comment?
I think you do some real nice models.. but I think the need to look more used:) Maybe an oil wash, and a few scrapes.
For me, I find making a peice of armour look well used is the best bit of building a model.

I find weathering on modern armour to be slightly over-rated. This isn't World War Two, when a tank was in the field pretty much non-stop, and probably rarely if ever saw a washrack. I look at a model of an M1 from Iraqi Freedom in a competition or whatever, and I cringe. Not because the weathering was badly done, but because it's just not appropriate. You go on a week-long exercise, the first thing you do when you go back is wash the tank. My tanks never got as 'weathered' as 80% of the models I see. Note how monotone these two tanks are, barring the lower hull of the one in front which had bottomed out on a ditch.

As a result, I draw the line at drybrushing and fading. The former brings out the detail, the latter ages it a bit, but I just don't see how a wash would be appropriate on a modern vehicle, beyond between the sideskirts to simulate gaps. Same with chipped paint.

If you compare these two, for example (and take into account the 'brightness' of the model pic)

You'll note there isn't really much need for a wash, everything's pretty monotone. If anything, more drybrushing, perhaps, but I think my model looks more faded and used than the real thing!

Sorry if I'm coming across a bit defensive, but bear in mind I am an armour officer, and tend to be a bit more familiar with modern tanks than the average modeller. A lot of the 'worn and used' look can be a great example of the modeller's art, but not on the sort of stuff I tend to model. I may not even be any good at it, but I don't know: I've never made a model of anything where I thought it appropriate to do so.

Yeah, know what yer sayin alright. Alot of the modern armour is a bit clean. Why I was sayin to make them a bit more used was that I was looking a doing a few Irish subjects myself, and noticed that some of the trucks I saw on the road were a bit scraped and marked. But I know where you`re commin from with the way you do your models.
Its a bit like when I do a car or bike, its rare I do them to look "used"...
I have only a few modern tanks in my display case (challenger2, leopard2, abrahms and a scorpian), and I only really faded them a bit. I have a t72, and yeah, its russian so should be fairly scruffy.
One thing I would say, is rather than just drybrushing. Try using an oil wash, but dont cover the whole thing with it or anything. Just use a fine brush, and let the oil/spirit mix flow into joints, around nuts etc. Now this wont make it look like dirt collected on the armour or anything, it will "bring out the detail" a little better. Then drybrush it as you normally do. I just think it makes the work done by the drybrush look so much better. It kinda enhances shadows, if ya know what I mean.
Now the wash should be really thin! barely coloured! But I think it makes a big difference.
I have a challenger 2 in the workshop that I got to do a diorama (which I wont be), I was gonna do it in desert colours, but now looking at your stuff, Im gonna do it in Nato colours! :D

Brits don't use NATO Three-colour. Just black-on-green. Unless they're in BATUS (Brown on tan) or Iraq (Tan only)

    Heh.

Anyone who does WWI rigging is insane, second only to some warship modellers. (Particularly of the ship-of-the-line ilk)

heh thanks, i was aiming for summer right enough so hopefully next weekend will be the inaugural flight.

As for storage space - ya know, i took those photos so i had something to show for all those pieces of kindling i inevitably bring home in a few weeks time.... i might need a plastic bag, not a garage! :)

Heres hoping the build quality is ok, theres a problem nut that you cant see from those photos, and ill be damned if i could fix it... probably get one of the model clubs guys to gimme a hand with the bugger.

Ha god i was big into these yokes before... Isn't much places to go in Limerick with them so i was in superquinn car park. It was a nitro car. Notice the was. I was at one end and i was driving the car away from me and it went out of the range, and when this happened it just let all loose and went as fast as possible, under a bmw x5 and into a shopping trolley station thing. The wheels where bust, along with my Impreza cover and now the whole steering system in the car is off. If any1 has any solution to adjusting the steering to stop it constantly turnin left please give me a shout.(I'm gettin too much wear on the side of the tires):) Might post some pics, one of ye might want it.
