I read that ok but it depends how quick OFCOM deal with the complaint ITV lodged with them.

Why do ITV have to wait, is there a new agreement to extend after 20th Jan?

Im not sure if there is a new extension agreement but do we take it that OFCOM verdict due in may becomes a extension. As DMC said its costing ITV big big money while this goes on. Are ITV going to put up this. Nothing stopping them going FTA while they wait for the verdict. ITV might not like the verdict at the end if it goes against them.

Over on Digital Spy (before the IT facists blocked my access), there were a lot of people summizing that if ITV want the same deal as the BBC they are planning to go FTA anyway - all the talked seemed to be of regionalisation rather than encryption, including the complaint to Ofcom (and then some of the secondary reporting saying it was over encryption). If people are assuming correctly that they are going clear, and it's just over the money for the regionalisation, maybe it will be sooner as even if they lose the ofcom case they'd surely be better off than continuing paying for encryption? A massive call for the future of Dsat/ Sky in the British Isles - both UK and Ireland.

However, after December, I won't be getting my hopes up on a decision soon, never mind the right decision.

I know that, you know that, but it is pretty obvious that the Brand Republic reporter has not got a clue about what he or she is talking about when they point out that "the encryption fee it pays Sky should be more like the £4m rate the BBC pays"
Bad research clearly suggests that the £4m is an encryption rate, no mention anywhere of it being solely for EPG placement! ;)

Well it's a little bit more than that.
They are paying for the correct region to be tied to the post code of the card also which costs more than what a commoner garden channel requires.

I rang a dealer in Kilkenny , they told me that their Sky rep. told them Sky and ITV were at loggerheads and that ITV was going FTA .

I would take what your dealer told you with a pinch of salt. Most dealers will tell you that itv are going fta to try and sell you a sky subsription. I will believe its fta when I can acutally tune it in fta.A lot should become clearer on wednesday

I Totaly Agree, The only people who knows what way its going to go are the big guys at ITV & Sky.

ITV News Channel has moved from Astra 2B (12032H) to one of the ITV transponders on 2D (10832H, 22, 5/6) since Friday.

A possible straw in the wind?

Doubt it... moving transponder or satellite matters little, (it did for the BBC.) ITV News was FTA since it was the ITN News Channel.

She is not a sales rep my friend . Why dont you email her and ask her to put this in writing, then post the reply here. I find it interesting that A. you have only two posts to your name and B. Why would you ring a dealer if you already know who Susan Geraghty is ?

    A. I have two posts cos I posted twice .

    B. I never said I knew Susan Geraghty .

I just thought this info would be of interest to all here . We will just have to wait and see if she in bul****ting or not .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,353 ✭✭✭✭Tony

why wait, why not email her for confirmation? This is not the first time we have had such posts here about the "imminent" arrival of ITV according to a "sky rep".

I did not say you knew her rather that you knew of her role so perhaps you can tell us why you rang a shop in Kilkenny rather than contacting her directly.

I'll try to phone her tomorrow but I seriously doubt she will confirm that she said this.

All info on ITV is of interest. But no decision on ITV going free to air yet has been made. If it was a ITV rep i would say yep but not a sky rep.

just checked digital spys website and they have the ofcom complaint on it and it is very interesting the itv complaint is about regionisation not encryption . so it looks as though itv intend to go fta but want to pay only 4million like bbc for the regionlisation.
