    Hi,

Just wondering if anybody has any experiences of using Irishbroadband in Cork? Thinking of taking out their 5.4ghz service. 1mb bandwidth no caps for €48 a month incl vat.

    Any thoughts?

Are ping times awful? Not playable for gaming?

Line of Sight wireless, when properly set up, usually gives excellent pings (better than DSL). But it is sensitive, and when it doesn't work well, it can be a right pain, and response times can hit the floor.

"1mb bandwidth no caps for €48 a month incl vat."

I thought it was 1mb for 84 euro...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭Chaz

There have been new packages introduced to ensure competitive edge in the market.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

yeah, and i just checked your site before posting the last comment.

Breeze home is still 512/512 for 48eur, but you have a new breeze lite )the 1mb thing) for 84 eur. That doesn't sound that competitive to me, but maybe i'm missing something.

EDIT: Breeze 1MB Lite: Monthly Charge €84.70 per month including VAT

Breeze Home Plus: 512/512 48 eur... still.

Is your website still not updated?

Ah right, i was looking at the residential offerings, not business offerings.

What would switching from residential home breeze plus (512/512) to the business 1mb lite package cost? And what would have to be done? Twice the speed for 8eur less is always good :p

Since it's business I think the €40 is ex VAT. I could be wrong though.

.. chaz just said those prices are ex vat at the end of his post..

Is that 1Mbps lite business package using VL 5.8Mhz?

    5.8GHZ - yes.
As far as I understand - existing clients are bound per contract - but there will be a push to move people onto these kinda of packages - also - the bigger ones are much more affordable now too.

Whats the max range for the €40 (ex vat) 1Mb package in the wild Chaz ?

I saw you mention 8km somewhere but that may have been another package or different kit.

    TIA

Dublin and Cork are run slight different. Dublin has many sites - so they will limit it to say 4 kms or so.
Cork has few (for now) so there is no real limit. Pass the Signal and Quality test - then you are good to go. Futherest client in Cork is around 8kms - working 100%.

Which means it works out at exactly the same price as my existing 512/512.

My existing 1 year contract runs out right about 2 weeks ago (yup, over 1 year as a customer), so what happens now regarding switching to the 1meg. I believe i already have the 5.8ghz gear (i have the VL gear) so i presume all that happens is that you have to flick a few switches in your office. Who do i need to talk to to get that to happen.

What about those already paying for the 1meg at €84.70?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,368 ✭✭✭-ADREN-

Any ideas if these guys will come to limerick next?

I am not 100% sure. Those guys - such as yourself - are in contract with the package and price as agreed. I think that there will be a gradual adapation of pricing - not sure if you need to run your contract out first though. In your case - you have a VL radio - so its just a billing change. In other cases - clients would need to be upgraded onto VL radios - something that takes time if you consider the client numbers.

Limerick, as with all the other licensed areas need to be live before February to ensure Comreg/licensing satisfaction. I believe the equipment and sites have already been arranged / ordered. Its just a matter of getting things done and sorted.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,368 ✭✭✭-ADREN-

    Nice. Thanks for that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭Chaz

There is a map being made so that it can be placed online.

What happened to the 1mb/1mb for 40eur ex. vat! Its been removed from your site. Whats the dealio! I was planning on ringing up tomorrow and quoting the site. Has someone made a boo-boo with pricings. Thats a real kick in the nuts. So much for repricings to maintain competitive-ness. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭Chaz

Parts of Carrigaline are covered. You would need to be high up on the Southern Side. Douglas is mostly covered.
A Single network point is supplied. You would need to route over that point. I do not know - but I doubt your DSL unit will work.

Sweet that described the location of my house rather nicely :)
    Thanks for the speedy replies.
