Got this baby from the DHL courier today and all I can say is oh my god. What a fantastic game and it's miles better than Winning Eleven 7 International / PES 3. Lots of improvements in graphics and the attention to detail is second to none. It's a bit hard to try and guess what menu is which since it's in japanese but nevermind I'm still playing a full La Liga season. The fully licensed kits look nice and although the English and french clubs have still to acquire a license this doesnt make a bit of difference as you can edit the jerseys.

i am currently a few hours away from having this game but one thing is worrying me. there are reports of slow down occuring in parts of the game.

    kensutz, have you noticed this?

    check out these player likenesses:

Well I've got Winning Eleven 6 FE for Gamecube and it rocks. Beats the pants off Pro Evo 3 on the PS2. Bought a data pack containing all the players and teams etc for Europe and internationals. It just runs incredibly quick although this new version looks well.

Those three midfielders in the first picture written in katakana are:

    Under Carsley: Healy, McAteer
    Under Keane: Andy Ried

If you're stuck with menus or anything, I could have a bash translating them. Not promising anything though, I did fail my exam ;)

Without wanting to engage in a ps2 vs gamecube debate i can safely say that those movies posted there featured some equisite new moves.

should be a patch available for we8 within the next week or two which will sort out language problems.

That might be the case as some of the translations made so far on evoweb are ropey.

    Thanks.

i played this yesterday in a friends house

the gfx! theyre amazing! have you tried doing the new free kicks? press select and you can have a 2nd player step over and back heel it to the kick taker.

one thing i didnt like was when player miss a shot, even if it wasnt a very good shot, they fall to their knees and moan about it for a while. In the few games I played of it, the ball went back to the player as he lay there on the ground and me screaming "GET THE **** BACK UP"

all in all... get this game! fifa beater any day of the week if you didnt already know that. 10/10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭eyerer

    did they improve the headers?
    did they improve the passing?
did they improve the free kicks? particularly ones just outside the box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,200 ✭✭✭kensutz

headers are better, you can chest the ball to players too. you can have little back heel flicks onto players, i have a 5mb video of a goal in which i did a move to set it up. free kicks are harder but you can have 2 standing over the ball and one dummies and a player strikes or you can have the fella standing at the ball to lay it off for the other player to hit it. so many changes are made it's too hard to sum it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭eyerer

    sounds pretty good
i hated how in PES3 you'd head the ball and have no control of it, it would always go to the opposition

i hope the passes are stonger, in pes3 a lot of them are hit so tamely they crawl across the pitch and are easily intercepted, throughballs were crap too

i accept that i'm crap at freekicks, dont have a clue what to do
so what i do is a floated pass to teammates in the box for a header, when just outside the box its impossible to hit the ball gently enough for them, it just always goes out for a goal kick

OMG that game looks ****ing unbelieveable. It is perfect looking and the players are actually realistic.

    WE7I beats WE6:FE hands down.

No it's not impossible to score free kicks.
You just need to know how to do it. Practice makes perfect.

man I was on fire that day .

WE7I on ps2 is absolute class, but WE8 is a total new ball game. Look at some vids on evo web, some have a tricks videos others have goals scored. There is an excellent video of Terry vs Henry have a search for it and you will be blown away

do you have to have your PS2 chipped for Winning Eleven 8 to work?

yes, well not quite you can get it on a hdd without the need for modding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,478 ✭✭✭lee_baby_simms

    Got we8 yesterday.

    Best improvements are
    1. Headers: Better animation and targeting.
    2. Free Kicks. By pressing select, you can bring in another player and by holding L1 you control him to do a pass, shot etc...This allows many combinations, leaving your opponent guessing.
    3. New animations include in the tunnel before the game, after fouls and misses, long throw etc.
    4. New passing system. Although it takes a bit of getting used to by holding down X longer you play a pass to a player further away than one nearer providing both players are facing in your general direction.
    5. Player likenesses: This has greatly improved.

There are tons of tiny things such as before a long ball the player will have a quick glance up the pitch, adding a nice bit of realism.

However and this is a big however, this game is by no means faultless.

    Bad Points

    1. Slowdown. Personally this is disatrous. Corners and penalty area action cause the game to drop 10 fps or so. This varies in different stadia and whether the commentary is on, radar etc. That said i have had a few slowdown free matches.

    2. Pitch and player graphics. Some of the pitch textures and player light reflections are very tough on the eye. (Some pitches are so disorienting that i had to quit and change stadium a few times)

    3. The game is still biased toward the fast/skill attributes.

    4. The shooting system could have been improved.

5 . The goalkeeping and defender AI is still pretty poor.

    6. During throwins you only control the thrower not the recipient.

All in all a good game, didnt live up to the hype though. It still baffles me how the slowdown bug managed to slip through.

I would give this 9/10 but cos of slowdown i'd go with 7/10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Pro Evo 4 on PC is gonna be the way to go. No slowdown and hopefully by then, the little faults will be pressed out.

What do u mean by point 3 and 5?

Cos even in Pro Evo 3/WE7:I on pc of course, I have noticed defending is tough and realistic.

well hopefully pro ev 4 on the ps2 will have the slowdown sorted.
    cheesedude wrote:

sorry, should have phrased it better.

The game is still biased toward the fast/skill attributes.
what i meant was that a fast player with shag all other ability can give the likes of nesta a lot of trouble far too easily.

The goalkeeping and defender AI is still pretty poor.

from what i can see is they havent changed the AI regarding the keeper and defenders at all, with the result that for a split second you feel like your playing WE7I of pro ev 3.
If you could anticiapate defenders and keepers in the previous versions, you shouldnt have any problems with the new one.

Its still a great game to play, but in some areas it didnt meet my expectations. I'm not trying to rain on a parade, quite the opposite, in fact i'm lookin forward to clockin up a good few hours on we8 over the weekend. ;)

Ah ye man I get ya now.

Hopefully they will change the AI so it feels different in defence and goalkeepers.

i'm definately happy they have added the press x for longer to pass to the player further away, very annoying to have a pass go to the one right next to you

Lots of slowdown fixes there , dont have a PS2 so no clue if they work or not, very odd that its in the game.

Anyone know if there be a WE8 for PC out before Pes 4?

No, it will be released on PS2 and XBOX before PC. and you will only get pro evo 4 on PC.

And news so far is pro evo 4 will be we8 except with less slowdown and all that crap.

err isnt the slowdown cuz your playing an ntsc version of the game on pal ps2? it dosent actually affect the game unless its raining, in that case with corners it tends to slow down. I'm sure it wouldnt happen on a jap ps2 or am i wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,200 ✭✭✭kensutz

you're wrong, the japs are also reporting the same problems and it tends to be with the stadiums with the stand close by the goal line,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,478 ✭✭✭lee_baby_simms

i got this from evo web and it gets rid of 90% of slowdown.
Hi guys, I love this game but have been annoyed as most of you by the slow downs. I especially had this trouble on corners where it slowed right down to pretty much unplayable. Some stadiums do have less slowdown but I was getting loads at Old Trafford. Sure a fix is turn off the crowd but that's a crap atmosphere. What I did was change the supporter type to 1 star it shows this at the bottom of the screen(please don't get confused with home and away attendances). This means you have a full stadium and minimal if not any slowdown and I also feel the game is a lot faster than it was before all over the pitch. Supporter type is the one above Home and Away attendances. Let me know if this works as it has for me.

    http://www.danny18.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/we8_014.jpg

That is the picture of it but don't have the supporter type the same as the one in the picture. When you move through the different supporter types it shows the stars at the bottom of the screen(the dark grey part). So select the one which corresponds to the one star at the bottom of the screen.

Real simple. You guys can do it this way. 1 star Home/away. Tv default camera angle. commentary off. You get crowds and you get the noise but you get HARDLY any slowdown if any.

hopefully if he does get to work on these it gives it more time and support than he did with his 4.o relese my WE7 is still broke and unplayable thanks to that poxy release
any news on a release date for we8 on pc

Brock i dont know what happened. but ye sooner his website comes back the better.

we8 is only used in japan. pro evo 4 is the european release and is apparently going to be better than we8 as bugs will be fixed and updated rosters and squads and all that.

pro evo 4 is gonna be out 12/11/04 for pc according to play.com. that will prob be around october though as ps2 one is out then.

    hey kdjac,

from what all the sites are saying, we8 will not be out for pc!

fair play on the ole promotion!!!

Hopefully when pes4 is out, i can challenge you online if, some rumours are to be believed, it has online play...

    PS: That's a big IF! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

Can play We6 online now ;)

Its meant to have it but Konami have a fear of online gaming so seriously doubt it, theres a mod being made for WE7I for online play but i think the key to is in the USB ports but they trying to a nice GUI before the actual mod, in my exp making it look nice before you make the mod is a bad thing.

PES 4 will be released on PC. It's confirmed ages ago and maybe Live on XBOX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,200 ✭✭✭kensutz

The mod for WE7 online failed as it was using remote networking which had lag issues, and one computer had to host while the other had to join in the game. Wolf tried everything and failed

i just did that too (well, lost in the cup semi final on pens) but i won the league and got promoted (despite some dodgy goals conceded in the playoff)

i came to ask a question though (pes3 pc), when you begin a new season, after pre-season, and you are in negative points (currency) do you get a game over screen?
i was in negative by 400 or something and i got a game over screen, which i'm guessing was because of that
i brought in 3 decent players and went into a little debt which i figured i would easily payback when the new season started
hell, i got an offer for one of my reserves, that would've sent me into positive figures, but i didn't know that would happen

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

Does anyone know how to do that move with r3 properly on we7i and we8. In pes3 if you pressed up down on r3 the player would chip the ball over the other player and then you could run onto it. In we8 its pathetic cos the ball barely lifts off the ground

    ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭eyerer

question about WE8, are the players still on rails?
like when the ball runs loose and the player runs to get it along a set path and you can't change his direction or stop him running

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

No its still the same :o . Konami are starting to take the piss realesing this every year, twice a year in japan. The game is not getting any better. They they take one step forward and 2 steps back

They never were on rails. If you hold down R1 and R2 you and move the player with the Dpad you can take full control. This was the case in we7/i, proev3 and we8. Not sure about the earlier ones.

    Its explained here:
