If you're looking for recommended tattoo artists, then go see John in Abbey St (celestial ring) ......he puts everything into his work and always tries to improve the flash if u let him. And if you want free hand ur def in the right place.... check him out!

Got 3 done by him in December, + one complete redo of one done in the place that was once owned by Karen Russell (done after it had swapped hands, in other words it was under the current owners not Karen) in Temple Bar as once it healed I could see it was pretty badly done IMO as it was very gappy. Have to say I'm happy with all his work so far. Was hoping to get another done before I returned to work but time didn't allow for it so hopefully at some point later in the year...
Karen did my first ever tattoo and still looks fine so I'd have to recommend her too.

He's quite patient and makes sure you're happy with the initial stencil placement before going near the needle, even redid one stencil as he wasn't happy with how straight it was (looked ok to me), so he clearly takes pride in his work. While doing the tattoo he regularly checks with you if you're happy with the tattoo so far too, so as long as you know what you want there's no way you should be leaving there unhappy with the tattoo.

The test Titanium White UV one has turned out well.:) Taking time for the pinkish tint to the skin to fade (but then same applies to normal tattoos too, just you can't see it due to the ink colour), some areas seem to have returned to normal colour faster and so some parts are more difficult to see in ordinary light so I'll have to wait until it's all fully recovered to see how much it stands out. As for getting the piece I originally started looking into the UV ink for; it'll have to wait since taking about a month for the pink to fade means that using up all my annual leave it'd still probably be slightly noticeable when I return to work so perhaps if at some point I end up between jobs or with a lot of due leave carried between years.

This guy you're talking about on Abbey St... is his shop kinda up a small alleyway?

I had a nice tattoo done in Dublin a couple years ago, but I cant remember where it was done! Great work though!

Has anyone been to connected tattoo on abbey street? Its an american clothes shop with a tattoo place downstairs, kinda in the shop. I never saw it before my boyfriend went there recently. He had a large tribal freehanded on his back by someone in zulu (who tattooed me and did a good job), but anyway, he made a mess of my boyfriends, it was all over the place.
We went in here and had a chat with the guy that was working in the shop and he brought us in to martin, a polish artist who did a good job fixing what he could. He didn't talk much, I don't think he was comfortable with his english tbh, but his portfolio was brilliant, excellent freehand work and brilliant cover-ups. They are a bit more expensive than most other places, about 100 an hour, but I would recommend it. I'm planning to go there for my next one.

Oh and Jani in celestial ring is really good, if you can deal with a huge attitude problem in my opinion

Hi, Can anyone help me, i am trying to get a contact phone number for Dragon Tattoos in Talbot street, as I want to go down on a Saturday, but its an hour on the train and I don't have a big window of time between other commitments, so I was hoping to ring in advance to book a time slot?

Hi. I want to get a tattoo done as soon as possible but have no idea where to go.
I read through this thread and noticed that Snakebite, Dragon Tattoo, Zulu Tattoo & Celestial Ring came up as great places to go but some of these posts date back to 2003 so i was wondering if this still stands?
Also can anyone recommend a particular artist?

Someone wrote that it all depends on what you are getting done as some artists are great at certain designs and not so hot on others. I want to get a colourful tattoo of flowers.

I would really appreciate any advice and or recommendations

Well, the places you mention have a good reputation, but aside from this, I would recommend looking at the portfolios of artists working in here and determine which one would suit your needs bets.

It's been mentioned that a professional should be able to do whatever a customer wants, even if doesn't really like it and I agree to some extent, but you're more likely to get a better jobs done by an artist who will like your design.

Oh, and why do you mention "as soon as possible", it's not like you're gonna been skinned alive in the next coming days (or so I hope) and a you will have your tattoo for a loooong time. So make sure you get exactly what you want.

Thanks very much for the tips.
Yeah I know theres no rush but I’ve been sure about this for a year now. It was just a case of coming up with the right design so now that I eventually have I guess I’m pretty excited to get it done J

Nine Lives in Bray. Just in the middle of the town. Theres a website just google it. For my money Classic Ink is the only place to go.

When I got my first tattoo 2 weeks ago, it was myself and 2 friends and we went to Celestial Ring in Stephen's Green. We had done our research and went into a few studios the weekend beforehand but felt most comfortable with CR. We all had 3 different artists and we all came out delighted.

Can't remember the name of the guy who inked me (the receptionist forgot to write down his name on the aftercare sheet) but he was really really dead on. When I went in with the original design he explained straight away there was no chance i could get the design at the size i wanted as the lines were too close and it'd look sh*t. The fact he took time out to explain and didn't just do it was pretty sound. I'm so glad I didn't compromise and get the lines filled in and went with his advice.

I'll definitely go back to CR anyways.

Well after years and years (honestly!) of planning, I eventually got the tattoo I wanted across the top of my back, in Dragon in Talbot street. Would have no hesitation in recommending them. Also, a nephew of mine has got some good colour tattoos done in Zulu and he speaks very highly of them. Just a tip, (I know its already been mentioned but no harm in reminding!) make sure you like what you are planning to get as you will have it for a long long time, especially if it is something that might be topical now but mean nothing in a few years (like the guy who got a pic of Eric Cantana playing for his team the day before he went and signed for man utd!!)

    I Need someones help..
Ive been looking to get a tattoo for quite i while now. Is there any where in Dublin where you can be under 18 and have parental consent? My parents have agreed to let me get a tattoo but im not sure where to go  I only want a small design on my hip.

    Thanks ..x

Actually, lots of places will. On a quiet day if the person looks old enough, they don't even ask. I brought my 16 year old daughter thinking I would have to sign something and nobody even asked. And all you have to do is look at the amount of 15 to 17 year olds with tattoos to realise that it is a regular occurence (maybe not right but it is happening!). I still think you really need to be sure, especially at a relatively young and impressionable age, I made my daughter wait over a year to be sure that she still had no change of mind about the design. I waited 10 years planning the design to be sure!

    No respectable places will.

Ah now just a little! I'm not looking for a masterpiece here.
I've had friends get small tattoos and they always look if they're just done flat on. They end up too cartoon like.

    hi guys,

    cheers

I don't like snake bite, I got a shooting star and its not very good, the star is totally off and none of the points match up properly or anything and people can notice it! and I mean if you can't Tattoo a star, one of the most popular tattoos, and yet they mess that up

Hi, Inkwell on the quays is fantastic. Have been in with them the past two weeks. My house mate got her ribs and side tattooed, and my friend got a declaration on his back. Both are amazing, the tattoo artists are so talented and friendly. I was just there to watch and even i was treated really well!! Gregg and Mark are the two guys who did my friends, highly recommend them.

I started this tread not to find a tattoo parlour with privicy but to find the one with the best reputation. can anyone back up that Zulu is the best or tell me any others.
    Thanks

    hiya
i personally think Zulu in Temple Bar is the best. Tehy love what they do, which really is good, not just in it for the money kinda dudes. If you ask for Sean/Shawn (not sure how he spells it) or Tara they are fantastic artists, i have art by the 2 of them and they are just perfection, not a line out of place, and one of them is quite detailed, so they impressed me, Tara is really friendly too and makes you feel quite at ease, Sean is quite intense but he is an amazing artist, i recommend this place to everyone, it is the best.
    Good luck with it
