    Alright,

I'm sick of my home game and need to find some action apart from the Macau club. Me and my buddy joined the other night, but would like to hear about other games, in pubs and other public places.

Hold'em preferably, but Omaha and 7/5 card stud would be good too.

    Cheers

    Iceman

I know I'm not answering your question in any way, nut I was wondering about the Macau today. Couldn't find any info on the net about it. What tournaments do they run?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 157 ✭✭iceman_2001_ie

There are tournaments played on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday night.

I think they all have a €20 buy inn, but each have different re-buy limits.
The Sunday game is followed by a cash game. I assume that the others tournaments are the same.

Sorry if I have mistaken you for someone else but are you Iceman of VAR?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 157 ✭✭iceman_2001_ie

    Nope.

    Sorry.

Well, judging by the lack of interest in this post, I can either deduce that

    1. Nobody in Cork plays poker except me
    2. Nobody in Cork has the internet
    3. Nobody in Cork reads this board and plays poker.

Doesn't matter that much really. I'm going to get as many leads as I can and post them, so if anybody is heading to Cork for a few days, they will not be denied their poker hit.

    Here's another.

Monday nights, Bar Rumba on Tuckey Street.
€10 buy in tournie. Either 8:30pm or 9:30pm start.

Not sure which game, but if the organiser is who I think he is, then it'll probably be Hold'em.

how do you guys get all this information? A little thing called the internet? I hear they have that on computers now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

yup, it's a handy little thing. people can put things called websites on them. you can find an example of one here.

I'm just gobsmacked. I used to be a novice poker player, but after that visit I'm ready to take on the world (and by world I mean with that "website" as you call it I can play people from Asia to the "antes") thanks bud!;)

Seriously though.. How the hell did you find out that Fitz were planning that? Did you hear it somewhere or what?

That is fantastic news. My buddies from dublin are always raving about the Fitz.

Yeah I was looking for a good casino too. Where exactly is the Macau?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

16 Patrick's Quay. they've just moved to new custom built premises there and in two weeks will be holding the Irish Classic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 677 ✭✭✭The_Scary_Man

Cheers Marq. Is that Irish classic the one that was supposed to be held in june?

    Here

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

    I'd assume so - link

I think I'll head in there on Friday night so. I'll probably drag a little entourage with me. Our home games have gone a bit stale.

Is the tournie an unlimited rebuy or is there a time limit on it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

Though perhaps only by the Sweet Mercy of the Lord, I thankfully don't live in Cork, and have never been to the Macau, so I'm afraid I really have no idea. Seems to be fuq all information available online, they don't even have a website, so I suppose your best bet is to go in and find out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 677 ✭✭✭The_Scary_Man

Thanks Marq. I'll head in there so Friday and check it out.

Let us all know what the story is with it when you do go in. I'm sure there would be a few people round these parts game for a poker-fuelled road trip.

The Macau is still using its original premises for the time being, but they are moving to Patricks Quay soon.

The directions to the existing location are

Stand outside the opera house facing away from it.
Walk down Lavitts Quay, past the "Bord Gais" store.
Take the first street you come to, about 30/40 yards on your right (the one with Larry Tompkins sports pub on the opposite corner)
The Macau is on the left hand side of the street, with a blue door and a yellow sign.

You'll need your driving license to join, so don't forget it unless you know somebody there.

I'll be along Friday myself to play in the tournie there.

By the way, what's wrong with Cork Marq???

    :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 677 ✭✭✭The_Scary_Man

Oh yeah I know it now. I heard that the new premises are supposed to be the business.

So looking at this it would seem that whoever owns the Fitz is backing this move, or are we going to have two Casinos on the quay?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

according to this months Poker Europa the Macau is moving into no. 16, though they could be wrong and perhaps the Horseshoe owns both. I'll ask the management tonight if I get the chance.

    Marq,

They are moving to Patricks quay. I was talking to the head guy there (can't remember his name) and he confirmed this to me. I was asking when the big opening would be and he said some weekend in late July/August.

    He probably meant the competition.

Its cool about the Fitz opening in Cork too. The Cork Bridge Club is on Patricks Quay too.

    It'll be the Card-Quay :)

The Friday and Tuesday night tournaments are Eur20 buy-in, with unlimited rebuys for Eur10 for the first hour and a half ( approx.). There's a top-up at the start of the freeze-out period. The Sunday night tournament has a buy-in of Eur10 with the same story for rebuys; double top-up is Eur 20. All tournaments are No limit Hold'em. On Last Sunday there was Eur1,200 in the pot with first prize of arround Eur600, 2nd approx 200-300 and 3rd circa 150-200 ( don't remember exactly). Cash games took place afterwards, if that's your cup of tea. About 2 dozen players started out. I managed to make it through the first hour and a half without getting bust out, and was doing nicely, survived for a while, but got bust out on A5 - the caller had A4 and made his jammy pair of fours.

I'm heading along myself tomorrow for the Friday tournament - See you there, I suppose. Good Luck!

.... and my hair still stands on the back of my neck when he turns over those cards
    "I flopped the nuts straight"

Its up there with "Ghandi" and "Good Morning Vietnam" as the movies I could watch over and over again...

I recorded it off TV3 about 2 years ago and have handed it around to a group of friends. Its a bit worn and faded in places but it still absolutely kicks ass. An American guy I knew once told me that after watching it, him and his buddies would feel this overwhelming urge just to be dealt in.

    I know the feeling...

By the way, I won't be at the Macau tommorow night, work committments blah blah blah...

    Enjoy it :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 677 ✭✭✭The_Scary_Man

Hey Schwarzfahren, Thanks for the info. I'll see ya there tonight.

I rang the Macau last night and was told they had moved to Patricks quay already. Can anyone confirm this?

Isn't the soundtrack just awful though? I had never seen it and rented it out last week - not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but the poker scenes and poker dialogue is quite good.
