I'm considering getting my nipple pierced.I dont know if there has previously been a thread about this...if so...sorry!

I was just wondering if anyone had this done and could tell me about it. Is it dangerous? How expensive is it? Where would be the best place [in the dublin area] to get it done? And finally...would you recommend it? Any information would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

i got it done about 2 years agos, and i believe the pain you get differs depending on which you get i.e. a bar or a ring.
Ive got a bar which i have been told is less painful.
Also i just really like it.

id recomend Bodyshock in temple bar, as they are pretty good. but ye know shop around, as im not sure what the price difference is in all the shops.

Dont mean to put you off but I know someone who got it done twice and both times it started to move out and he was in abit of pain. Doe have to admit it does look pretty cool esp if there is a nice body to go with it. Snalebike in Abbey st are pretty cool, there quiet professional aswell

looks great on women would advise more women to get it done

    i am a woman...!!

it's just i heard about a story of some girl who had it done and it went all **** and she had to have the whole nipple removed or something to that effect! it may well have been just a story but it's kinda scaring me. i really want to get it done though.

do you think that the coolness of it will outweigh the dangers???

well my mates nipple grew back after he got in a fight and got his piercing ripped out :) The coolness way outways the dangers though :)

Any chance of a before and after pic ?

It certainly does make a good thing better :)

The problems people have of it growing out, or having to have the nipple removed are very rare, so you shouldn't really worry about getting it done.

and well yea it looks cool too. male or female.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

I've never heard of someone having to have their nipple removed because of a piercing! Are you sure it wasn't ripped out? Having a bar rather than a BCR makes this unlikely to happen.
I've had mine done nearly 2 years now and they do migrate a little for almost everyone, a (male) friend of mine has had to repierce his at least 3 times, they kept growing out. They're staying put now tho, thank god :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Eye

yeah the coolness of them definetly outway the risks.

it kinda goes wihtout saying that practically any piercing you get could go wrong if ya don't take care of it it could get infected etc... but for the vast majority of people who take the proper actions when it's first done, there is rarely problems, if you do have a problem or are just worried you can always go back to where you got it done and ask for advice.

i know 2 people who got lip piercings couple of years ago and both got infected so they ended up removing them, even so i went and got mine done about 2 years ago and took care of it, had no problems what so ever.... except work, they did'nt like it and it was a case of loose the piercing of loose yer job, so i regretfully lost the ring :( wish now i had kept it, anyhow's might see about getting my tongue pierced next year.

too be honest, i just simply wouldn't recommend that.

if i were your bf, i would prefer you to be a "clean" women rather than a "cool" one

    ;-)

afaik my bf is quite in favour of it...

although i'll make sure before i get it done.

now that ive been sufficiently convinced that i should get it done...ive got to start saving [a lot or so im told...]

I have one of my nipples pierced for the last 3 years or so, have never had any problems with it and is probably still my favourite piercing.

Get a BCR done first, I found it much easer to clean and after it's settled in switch to a barbell which I think looks much better. It also catches less on things

    best of luck

Got mine done about 5 years ago,

only had a slight problem once (tiny infection - lasted 4 days - easily sorted out with a cream from the chemist)

I love it and so does my gf (that's the important thing!)

now if I could only lose the damn beerbelly!

If you want to do something a bit different from the usual niple piercing try a vertical one.

I am thinking of getting a vertical nipple piercing through the nipple I already have pierced across ways. I think it will be good but trying to decide if my nipple is big enough to take two piercings. Anyone out there have this done?

    thanks

Got mine pierced on 3 diff occasions. Each time it started to migrate although it was helped by having people pull at it at various times.

i know a girl who ripped hers out accidently while in the shower

    OUCH!

    thats all i can say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 519 ✭✭✭ThenComesDudley

all i can say is, if you use one of those spunge scrubbing things in the shower, make you cover your piercing or just keep away from it, as it hurts like hell if you catch on it.

I got mine done over three years ago, probably the most painful 5 seconds of my life but once it's in, it doesn't hurt at all. Until I got it caught in the car door:confused:

Seems to be much more painful for guys than girls

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 605 ✭✭✭exiztone

I barely felt it go in actually. Quite a nice piercing too. All I remember about getting it done to date is that I was laughing at something, don't remember what, but the guy couldn't get the jewlery in because I was laughing so hard.

The moral of the tale: Don't think of something funny when getting pierced.

How freely should the piercing rotate. I've just got a bar put in my nipple on Monday and I'm a bit worried about it, mainly as it's my first piercing. The nipple is still a bit swolen and it won't turn too easily(I'm afraid to put too much force on it. Should I be concerned about it yet? I ask as I don't want to go fiddling with it unless I need to as I passed out after I got it in... causing me some pain as my jaw hit the pavement... I guess I'll have to tick yes to the fainting question on the forms the next time :S

Oh and the pain of the piercing was much less than I'd expected. I think I just had a delayed shock to the needle:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭coldenmean

id say wait at least a week or more before you think about worrying.. durin that time id clean it twice a day and other than that dont do anythin to it... remember your body wants to heal so leave it alone and unless it gets really red and too tender to touch it should be ok.. and dont worry if it weeps a bit.. so long as thats not together with the whole red inflamed and super tender thing..
other than that.. just keep an eye out in the long run if its growing out or not....

p.s dont be afraid to ask these questions when your in there payin a dude to shove metal in your body parts!!!

Sorry you'll have to wait until about age 55 for that ;)

I had mine done in Celestial Ring in the Stephens Green S.C. and it cost €45

It also was a woman who pierced me so you shouldn't be worried about a strange man doing it.

thats not too bad, i want to go to Bodyshock though, and every time i go there ive been pierced by a different guy.

I seem to recall that not moving a new piercing for a few days is ok. However, in time, it must be moved and cleaned. esp of the crusticles that grow on the side of the ring.

I've had both nipple rings for about a year now. No problems to speak of. Although it is the second try.

The first try was a few years ago, and I got one nipple pierced with a full ring. after a time I noticed that the arm closest to the nipple was going slightly cold and tingly at times esp on the index finger. It didnt bother me all that much, but it did persist. when the ball fell out of the ring, and a few days later, losing the ring, I left it. The occasional tingly feeling went away.

This time, I got "D" ring nipple rings. I spoke to the piercer about my previous experience, and his thoughts were that an infection had developed behind the ring in the curve behind the nipple. My lymph gland was fighting the infection, and swelling in the meantime. This put pressure on the blood vessels and nerves in the arm.

This time around, there are no problems of that nature. In fact, I'm intending to size up the nipple rings.

oh, and I used snakebite in middle abbey st. They seemed ok. I've also heard good reports from miss fantasias in south william st.

I've had mine done nearly a year and a half now.
and I still find that crust does be on it daily when I wake up, and it can still puss.
and kind of puss pimples grow every now and then right beside the hole of the ring, these usually burt/squirt out when I am in the shower because of the heat,
though times it can look grand, and then 2 days later it can look a bit worse for wear.. not too sure why this is, anoyne got any idea's?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 DigitalAngel

Straight bars are the best thing for new nipple piercings - for just about all new piercings atch.
Rings have a tendancy to move about and rotate in the piercing too much, and also just generally get bumped around due to the fact that they are more exposed than bars.

Look after it well, don't overclean it, and use sea salt soaks on it twice a day for the healing period and all will be well.

As an aside, I've heard nothing but good things about Snakebite and Bodyshock :)

You have just put me off getting it done.
Every time I am a bit locked, I always end up stating that I am gonna either get a tattoo or get a nipple pierced. The next day, of course, it is the last thing on my mind. I think I know why piercing parlours don't open after midnight....

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,389 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lenny

They don't hurt or anything, I am not sure if anyone else has this problem or maybe its just that the piercing isn't right for me.
You should get it done and see how it feels on you and what you think about it, its not sore at all. well ok, everything can be a bit sore, but the pain is only felt for a *fraction* of a second, and after that its grand. mine never gets hurt by taking off my top, i don't even notice it if the ring gets lifted up while taking off my top or anything, one thing I find annoying is when its cold and your nipples go hard, it tends to retract against the ring and feels funny, just put your hand over it on the outside of your shirt to warm it up a bit lol

    Urgh!
That's not actually puss, it's lymph, and it's a good thing - your immune system is working well, and your piercing is healing properly. It's basically some white blood cells, platelets and dead cells.

Puss is something else entirely, and will only be seen in infected piercings. That's usually green or reddish/bloodstreaked, and will smell bad. If it's come to that stage your aftercare has been lacking, or there was nickel or something like that in the metal.

If in doubt, always, always go back to your piercer to have them check it out, and don't take out the jewellery - you have to wait til the infection clears first.

Eh no. Doctors (as a rule) tend to be very ignorant about piercings and just tell you to take the piercing out. In most cases taking out an infected piercing is a VERY bad idea as the entrance and exit holes heal very quickly and trap the infection inside. I've heard of men and women developing mastitis from doing just this.

Unless the infection is extremely bad, any infected piercing can be treated without removing the jewellery. Anyway, nine times out of ten there IS no infection. Angry piercings often look a lot worse than they are.

I had my nipple piercing stretched whilst living in Dublin at SnakeBite...

It got a little infected, and I was told to leave the jewelry in.

The infection stemmed from me not taking good enough care of it.

No regrets though... and the gf lurrrves it
    :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,580 ✭✭✭✭Victor

You could try some Savlon healing cream (not the liquid). It can kill an infect and promotes the skin growth, although I wonder is skin growth what you actually want.

Heres a really dumb newbie question - which nipple does a straight guy get pierced ?
Are any messages taken from Left Vs Right nipple pierceing ?

Id rather avoid the prospect of radiating the 'wrong message' on future beach trips.

And another thing, I got this 'DIY' sterilized body piercer thingy.
It seems to work on largely the same principles as a stapler.
Anyone know what Im talking about ?
Are these a good idea ?

No mention of anastethic, sounds painful.

    Haven't actually used it.
You can only use it once, comes with a ring and it *looks* fairy quick & painless.
I'll let you know tomorrow if someone tells me which nipple to do.

    left nipple.. ?
You're going to pierce yourself? would yea not get a mate to do it, cause you might stop yourself half way through, or may not push the needle through fast enough becuase you'd be afraid of hurting yourself..

Yes, it's a piercing gun, AVOID! This pushes the blunt stud through your skin, it just tears the skin, is extremely painful and will inevitably reject.
How much did this kit cost you? You can get your nipple pierced by a professional for about 30 euro ffs!
I really REALLY wouldn't **** around with something like this yourself, google 'mastitis' which is something men AND women can get from infection in the breast area.

Not a gud idea to do it yourself at all !!

Etho_ is right, it will reject !!

As far as left or right nipple......

    Get 'em both done !!!!

I got my nipple pierced about 4 and a half years ago. I got the right one done (since i play guitar and didn't want the strap chaffing.) The most painful part was the clamp, the needle didn't hurt. I was a bit tender for a couple of days, and couldnt really stretch. After a few days though it was fine.
As long as you look after it and clean it regularly you should be fine.
I paid IR£25 at the time, and got a circular barbell. Used metalworks in galway. Very professional and friendly. I would definitely recommend them.

I have heard about a loss of sensitivity in the nipple from it for women(none first hand so i dont know how reliable that info is.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭paulthelegend

As for the sides and the gay thing, when i got mine done i was about 4 years ago (i was 17) and wasnt really worried about it but still i did ask around :) and the majority said the right side was straight-ER but there was no real rule or anything...

Im wondering does anyone have a nipple piercing and do any martial arts or anything like that? wondering is there any like plastic cover like a gum shield for your piercing :) i got a serious rip on it and so close to coming out but thank god it went back into place, only about 10% of the bar is showin now, but just wondering when should you consider taking it out and getting it redone if you think its coming out?

I have had my eyebrow done twice and one of the times it ripped out and the other time i took it out cause it was coming out and i wasnt really left with a scare the time i took it out, but theres a big dint where it ripped out, dont want that happening to my nipple :)

Try a suitably sized sticky plaster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭paulthelegend

still if you get a punch on a plaster it still ****in kills or even if someone goes to grab you even with a plaster there still gona pull it out, i was looking for something about a foot square in size that is softish plastic kinda like a gum shield, especially if you could heat it up and mold it to your size ... if there nothing like that out there then someone better get inventing :P make your millions
