In Think the New Dogs on RTE are fantastic and that all of the British Channels should introduce them as Well! So There!!!

DOG's in general I don't mind, it's just when they stand out and interfere with your viewing pleasure. TV3's bug doens't annoy me, nor does TG4. MTV logo alone is OK, until they add teh "Osbournes 2 days to go!" crap which is very irritating. UK Gold, and Living TV etc also add programming to thier DOG which irritates me.

If they want DOG's they should make it as minimalistic as possible without added junk. In RTE's case, the DOG's are too bright and should be nearer the edge of the screen IMHO

the DSAT versions of BBC1 and BBC2 had DOGS at one point but they were forced to get rid of them due of public pressure so dont expect tham anytime soon. channel 5 also got rid recently. RTÉ go in the opposite direction

Calling something 'Network 2' or 'RTE Network 2' implies there are more channels associated with the 'Network 2' group of channels. It also implies that there is another cluster of channels labeled 'Network 1'. We all know that this is not the case.
Network 2's naming has been for me an Irish Joke for a long time now.
A TV network is a group or cluster of channels akin to the BBC Network or the ITV network. Only in Ireland is a 'network' a single channel.

Network 7 Austrailia do they have more then one channel?

    when they started out first?

I always thought they ment there second part of their network thus network 2. But then I never thought of it very much.

    Quick Aussie TV brief.

Channel 9, Channel 7, they can be called a network, as they used to be independent stations in Sydney and Melbourne (and later other cities, normally state capitals) But when in the 60's they got the technology together to link the two sites, and by then the owners had merged, and became a proper network.

They are referred to as the National Nine Network and Seven Network Australia.

The 9 and the 7 refer to their VHF channel they broadcast on. Station names have callsigns, TCN9, (Channel 9 Sydney) ATV10 (Ten Melbourne) etc.

Aussie TV ownership is a totally different animal! :)

Yes, carrolls is correct in that its not a "network" but I likes the name! :)

    AHHHH!

Its not that much of a joke.

I like the name too. Is RTE not a network?

RTE One was Channel 9 was it not when it first began? Nothing to do with the previous question.

To apply the 'network' analogy to your argument,
RTE is a network, but 'RTE Network 2' is a node in the 'RTE network'.
It should be called 'RTE Network node 2' .:D

I'm almost sure it started on Channel 7...

Yes, Richie Logue's site confirms it.

I see that RTE are now trying out the BBC's policy of putting their logo in the opening credits of programmes... (which TG4, incidently, have been doing for about a year now).

Not all the Autumn commissions have it, but "The Clinic" boasts a "RTE Drama" billing while "House of Love" gets an "RTE Entertainment" logo...

The RTE ONE DOG on trailers has moved to the bottom to match RTE N2's DOG.

Also, the RTE branding machine has got as far as Aertel, whose front page now reads "RTE AERTEL".

TG4 have being doing that since they changed name.

The RTE Drama title is more translucant then the DOGS. Why can they not be the same?

If there was enough public opposition would RTÉ remove those dreadful DOGS?

OMG! So they did! God, they're taking it a bit far now. I'm still annoyed with the new idents for their radio channels on RDS. "RTElyric" especially stupid looking

Why is the RTE One logo a grotty grey colour and the network two slightly whiter... why can't they adopt the same kind of shading as TG4?

I have to admit... TG4's is a little too small... can barely see it beyond the interference here in Wales!!!

The smaller the better IMO, or preferably none.

Has anyone noticed that the RTÉ N2 DOG has changed a bit tonight (well I've only noticed it tonight). It seems more transparent & less jageddy that the origional one. The RTÉ One DOG is still the same though.

Just noticed it. Now that they are perfecting it they will never get rid of the ugly thing.

Well, I for one am glad the RTE sticks its logo over 10% of my screen. Having, as I do, the I.Q. of a bowl of soggy cornflakes, in the past I often found myself falling into a wild panic as I desperately tried to remember what channel I had switched onto only seconds before.

I also think it adds fantastic atmosphere to horror movies as the intrepid hero goes down to the dark basement with nothing but the light of the RTE logo to show him the way.

Thankyou RTE for making my life mean something again.

    P.S.
I hope RTE decide to extend this highly original innovation of theirs to their staff. They could simply tattoo the letters 'RTE' in nice big letters onto the foreheads of their employees to remind them where they work. This would avoid embarressing situations where staff might accidently turn up for work in the Sky News Ireland office.

RTÉ One are now using the new more transparant, less jageddy DOG now & it has the animated classifications now just like N2. (I've only noticed it this morning.)

At least it's a slight improvement I suppose.

See the Attachment for a screenie:

Noticed last night that Net2 was using a more transparent one, but RTE1 wasn't. Must have just started using it today.
