Okay its a light topic but if its a "wrong sort of weather day" it can get us down...me I love crisp fresh air with sun but not too much of it ie its good to have short cloudy periods mixed in. Ideal shade temp for me is about 18c. Sadly this sort of day only happens about 3 times a year....during late Spring or early Autumn.

    Mike.

    I actually love Thunder.
About a month ago, my relations were here and an aunt who is terrified of lightning.

A most terrible storm was going on at the time, lightning forking all over the place...
The poor woman was under the table almost with the fright.

Meantime my young cousin who is 10 was really excited about it and proceeded to count between the lightning and the Bang.

Several times he said things , like "Nan it's only a mile away now..." and She nearly went blue when he told her that her necklace had metal in it and was drawing the lightning...she was going to be hit by it...:D

I feel so mean putting a smilie after that story

While nearby or overhead forked lightning can be very scary, I love watching it, and do plan to tornado watch at some point.

my fave weather is dry, but cool weather with no sun and no wind, around 15 degrees, wer you are comfortable in a tee shirt and a shirt over it. but not too hot
i get very uncomfortable at temps over and around 20 degrees, so on the way to the home ferry in scotland, 30 degrees. yum yum.

    Snow simple answer hehe

It really depends on the previous weather but I like a good spot of raucus thunder and lightning every once in a while.

I took this picture of a red sky after a thunderstorm not so long ago.

There's something quite wonderful about a really cold dry misty winters morning.

Everyone's breath steaming in the air and you're snuggled in a big jacket and scarf and everywhere is icy.

Plus all the cute girls have rosy cheeks.

    Nice pic Gordon :)

Thiunderstorms are grand but only for so long when they hang around the fun factor wears off quickly. Down here - Waterford -
there has been very little activity when only 30-40 miles away in Wexford Thor is raging mad! I had a lightning sticke hit right by me in the van between Rosslare and Wexford two weeks ago. I could feel the air crackling.... I went past an ESB sub-station about
    10 seconds later...

Basically love any kind of storm eg. gale winds or thunder and lightening etc.

Especially like being by the sea when there is a massive storm in progress - its fantastic to watch :D

    Yeah I know I'm weird :)

I like really wild weather... stormy/windy etc. particularly if I'm near the sea or a large area of water then it's great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,328 ✭✭✭Sev

I like that perfect crystal clear sunny calm day that you only get when a high pressure system settles in the area for a week or two. The sky is blue to the horizon (perhaps one solitary cloud or two), there's no wind, and everything just seems so quiet. Above all, Im just a great fan of clear blue skies. But I do love the occasional large nasty thunderstorm.

I like nice hot days - I can stick the heat!

But my all time favourite are days when it's really windy, but not cold windy, and no rain. I love going out round, walking round a corner and the breath's taken away from you for a second. Feels really refreshing and energising. :D

My fvourite weather has to be like we had recently, the type you normally get in spain and elsewhere. Maybe its because i wasnt cooped up inside a workplace but i never had as good a time in ages as i did during the heatwave. I never found it too hot.

There is something satisfying about a crisp cold winter morning too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

Cold, and either dry, or lots of snow. i love the cold. I love snow. A stiff breeze is always welcome too.

i have to say that is my number 1

i am also a big fan of storms, high winds, thunder, lightening although there was one time when i was out walking somewhere and lightening struck a load of sand about 10 meters away. all i had between me and the sand was a wall. it frightened the bejaysus out of me :D

Has to be snow... but real powder snow not the slush we get here in Ireland.

I was in Canada in the Rockies last October and it was just starting to snow and the pics I took were amazing and really looked like picture postcard stuff.

Havent had a chance to scan them yet so here's a sample of what it looked like..

If you do get a chance and have any more good snow ones, maybe you could post a link to them up in the weather pictures sticky at the top.

my favority has to be on a summers afternoon, and you see some really dark clouds coming in your direction, and every so often you hear a clap of thunder from that cloud ! I think it gives a great atmosphere

Then again, I'm one of those people that would love to go to the states and be a storm chaser for a few weeks. I'd love to experance a close encounter with a tornedo

Those mornings when you wake up and there is ground frost and the air is crisp and clear.

Really heavy rain and wind, when you are lying in bed and it is pounding off the roof. Very relaxing.

I love this crisp sharp mornings in winter without a puff of air, no clouds either. Great for getting my 4 and 5 hour training spins done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,683 ✭✭✭daveg

A crystal clear winters morning. The sun rising. Your breath fogged out in front of you. Is it just me or is this the best time for a sunrise?

    Or....

January.... A cold sharp day... Heavy snow falling from the sky (which is sticking to the ground).

    Or....

Summers evening. Nice and cool. Clear sky with no clouds. Sun just going down. Stars just coming out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,443 ✭✭✭✭bonkey

Blue sky, clean snowfall, and about -10 to -20 degrees.

Preferable location - up the side of a mountain with two skis attached firmly to my feet :)

Can't be beaten.....although a massive electirical storm in the late evening / night is pretty damned cool too. But only with forked lightning . Sheet lightning is just not the same.

    Hate the heat.
Hot sticky humid weather frustrates me, can't stick it.

Don't like sun either, my skin is of sensitive nature, burns easily and takes forever to heal even with factor 40 sunscreen ! :)

Thank god\allah for oncoming winter :D
Roll on the wet windy freezing weather i say with a bit of snow thrown in :)

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 5,945 ✭✭✭BEAT

    I have two favorites...

When it rains I prefer a thunder and lightning show, or a really hard downpour. I dont much like the constant light rain, its boring.

Autumn weather is the best, it's cool enough for a sweater but not cold enough for a coat.

I cant stand the snow unless I am looking at it from my bed, its no fun to drive in it or walk in it everyday around here, the chill factor is a killer!

I like it hot, clear skys, but not humid. An irregular cool breeze is nice with that too.

force 5 south-westerly or north easterly, warmish.
    Time off college/work :)

Anything apart from dull, midge infested humidity or these seemingly neverending dark drab drizzly stretches from November-February.

I love clear warmish days in spring and autumn with blankets of mist that lift at sunrise. Clear frosty weather is also ok and I don't mind snow as long as I don't have to travel in it.

    Depends on what I'm doing.

Being soaked to the skin during warm summer rain - so wet that it doesn't matter anymore...

Dry windless overcast day for cycling (though in winter a sunny day of course) for cycling at night - a cloudless night on a full moon, otherwise overcase to keep it a bit warmer.

A nice wild day when at a rocky coastline

10 in the mornin, bored, think i'll contribute to this old thread...

2 types of weather I love..

    1) The cold wintery morning, when everyone is all wrapped up and u can see your breath, girls are all cute cos they have lil red noses + cheeks etc.

    2) The weather when the sun is out. And its just warm. Theres a nice breeze, its perfect for wearing a t-shirt in, without being too hot or too cold. Simple way, teh sunny weather where u can play soccer in without sweating/feeling cold..

    ahhhh roll on.

ps. most times i hate rain, it confines you indoors practically. but then sometimes its good cos it gives that real, warm house feeling, where your looking out and you've an excuse to stay in and watch a film, maybe order a pizza.

    sin e

the best weather, has to be sheer lightning

i was in berlin in the summer, and got caught out in this vast lightning storm, was fantastic, crashes and bangs and flashes every second! i really enjoyed it.

the strangest thing, i thought anyway, was the lack of rain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Beerbreath

Still thinking about that Karina Buckley.....damn she's too cute to be doing the weather. I can never remember a thing she says about rainstorms and high winds. Lisa Burke on Sky News weather seems to have the same effect....... :D

    Aaaaaagggggggghhhhhhhhhhh LLLLLLiiiiiiisssssaaaa BBBBBuuuuuurrrrkkkkkeeeeeee *drools*

    I hate wind

My favourite weather without a doubt is one big crazy storm....

Huge winds, pouring rain, loads of thunder, and lightning.

    I absolutely love them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,809 ✭✭✭CerebralCortex

Those special days when the wind is blowing but there are no clouds to be seen in the sky. I don't even know if this kind of weather can exist yet I think I have experienced it twice before in my life (very nice, very refreshing).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,327 ✭✭✭NeoSlicerZ

I want rain, a good 2 foot of it if possible in Galway. If not possible, as much as possible and a low tide.

I love those weathers too Lexie.
A good frost is lovely and refreshing, especially when you're out walking.
When there's strong winds, it's best that there's some trees in the garden which kinda filter the "noise" of the wind. Very "Wuthering Heights"!

I think December is my favourite month in this country weather-wise. Also September/October can be lovely late summer early Autumn days.
August tends to be a bit humid - you know those days when you can smell everything - the rubbish bins, everyone's perfume, cigarette smoke, b.o. - hate that kinda weather - a few hours of summer rain is a god send during this kind of weather - big huge drops of rain! Also during this type of humid weather if there's nice misty rain, it's lovely - doesn't happen very often though, also this invariably makes the barnet go from sleek to frizzy, but heh! :D

I'd say I love a V.cold wind with a nice crisp air with no sun just pure cloud and absolutley NO humidty!

    Ahh when those days come:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Blizzards with loads of snow fallings and sticking, huge drifts, more snow
and more snow. Dublin grinding to s standstill the family all in the house
    no electricity :D:D:D:D:D:D

Of course i also love big storm systems with really tight isobars with
intense bomb intenswification and really high winds. :D:D

Not to mention pretty much all other weather.

Nothing can beat 28c pure blue skies and a barby, with a warm southerly
    breeze
