Re: Calving 2026
You can usually tell by how cloudy the eyes are wether the calf died during labour or it’s death started the labour. A hard labour can kill a calf.
Lost my first calf in years recently. Had an emergency off farm and by the time I got back to assist the heifer her calf was dead, an hour earlier and it would have been fine. It’s hard to explain to people that calving season is a 24/7 job and things can go very wrong sometimes.
Re: Nostalgic advertising catchphrases/taglines...
"Got to get a gateau,
Got to get a Gateaux cake!"
…which my brother changed to "GOTH to get a gateau, GOTH to get a Gateaux cake!" to slag off one of our sisters. 😄
He emphasised it like that too.
Re: Next Census
I’m looking forward to the 26 one being released. Found my dad’s family wandering around the north inner city of Dublin in them and other records eventually settling in phibsborough where my dad was born in the 40s so they are in the family home in 26. I have a few things it might help me bottom out.
Re: Anyone else aware of money 'going missing' in Irish hospitals?
The story is far from implausible. Hospitals are a sh*tshow, staff don't know what's going on, don't follow procedure - that's if there is a procedure. There are plenty of people of dubious character, both direct employees and agency, working in hospitals and healthcare generally. The HSE's vetting procedures are, surprise surprise, a shambles. Whenever I had relatives going to hospital I made sure that they didn't have anything valuable with them. This meant that they were without things that they needed such as hearing aids but if they did go in with them, there was a very good chance that they would go "missing" and then they'd be without them anyway.
Re: 2026 Irish Gigs (Confirmed & Rumoured Events)
The constant condescension to other posters, the defence of Live Nation at every turn, the "I know about an announcement but I'm not telling you" posts, the relentlessly contrarian attitude when anyone feels slightly hard done by or they should have been treated better by an artist/venue/promoter...
Meh, they had it coming.
Re: Donald Trump the Megathread part II - Mod Warning updated in OP 12/2/26
The E.U. should play Trump`s game, and do the opposite of what he did with Argentina. Let Hungary know that if Orban wins again then the money stops flowing their way.

Acting AG Todd Blanche stated that the Department of Justice has released all files related to the Epstein case and intends to move on from the issue. He emphasized that while the Epstein “saga” was part of the department’s recent past, it should not factor into its future work.
Also reports Trump is considering mass firings in his Cabinet.
The DOJ just claimed the Presidential Records Act is unconstitutional. That’s the law that’s supposed to force presidents to hand over all their official documents. Basically, they’re saying a president might decide what’s public and what stays private. Courts haven’t weighed in yet, but this could rewrite decades of rules.
The Mar a Lago raid was partly about recovering records Trump had there after he left office, but it was mostly about recovering classified documents at Mar a Lago.
