Re: Best way out of a PCP
The lashing out anytime Dacia is mentioned in this forum is one illustration of the problem. Driving a Dacia instead of a VW or Audi appliance costing 30k more should not make a person's life miserable. If it does there is something very wrong with their priorities and lifestyle
This would be indicative of immaturity, insecurity and lack of life experience. What does a 50k new VW Tiguan bring to someone's life that a 26k new Dacia Duster doesn't? Both cars are utilities and are mundane. It could be argued that the Tiguan is safer in a crash but the minutiae of EuroNCAP testing is not going to influence the average buyer.
The purchase of a Tiguan so it can look good on the driveway and impress the neighbours with its badge is a passive thing. It's not like the owner is going to be doing their own maintenance or bringing it on a trackday LOL. It's not like tinkering with a classic car or enjoying bringing it to a car show to display it and meet other like minded enthusiasts.
It's consumerism, it's keeping up with the Joneses and it's facilitated by the financial services industry . Some people who engage in this consumerism cop themselves on with age or when life suddenly slaps them in the face which it has a habit of doing. Others will never cop on .Then they'll be on their deathbed thinking about what they achieved in life - well they worked in a job they disliked until age 65 and spent less time with their family because they "needed to" to buy a new Audi on PCP every 3 years - but on the plus side at least the neighbours only ever owned VWs. Great.
Re: Dublin - BusConnects
There’s a big difference between the situation at Stillorgan & Cabinteely/Cornelscourt and that at Shankill.
In the case of the two former locations there are still relatively short walks to the alternative bus stops on the Stillorgan Road and Bray Road respectively - not an option with a motorway.
In this case the alternative stop for the E1 would be at Loughlinstown Hospital (a long way away) and you’d be replacing a high frequency Spine route with a 30 min local bus.
In terms of time saved - you do have to look at the entirety of the corridor and not just one single location. They all add up and can be the difference cumulatively between getting another trip out of the bus and driver.
It’s not just the connection to the city, those buses carry people to/from points all along the route - I don’t see that being a runner at all with the people who actually use the bus to/from Shankill, whom I suspect are not the people objecting (I see that the main funder of the JR claim is a partner in a trading firm who just happens to own a large mansion in Shankill and might lose some land).
Re: Donald Trump the Megathread part II - mod warnings in OP, Updated 18/03/25
Reports today that the Trump administration has deported 4 children who are all US citizens. Including one who is an active cancer sufferer who was deported without consideration of their disease.
This is exactly why due process is an absolute requirement. The Trump administration deserves to be held in the utmost contempt for how they're treating people.
If a Democrat did 1/8th of the anti-constitution acts that this Republican is doing, the Republicans in congress would be declaring a state of emergency.
Re: Donald Trump the Megathread part II - mod warnings in OP, Updated 18/03/25
I'm not sure, I saw a post on social media earlier, that the US had its biggest tax take of the year to date and all the MAGA heads barrelled in crowing about finally having a president that gets how to run an economy. Not one person interjected to point out that all that money had come out of Americans pockets. Bunch of sheep
Re: Banning alcohol in Ireland
I would say most crime is actually drug related which are clearly illegal in this country. So if alcohol was illegal, I'd suggest it would be worse.
Re: Fair City [News, Spoilers and Discussion v10] Read Post #1 Before Contributing
Good spot everyone who said Mark. What a rubbish end to a storyline that lasted so long.
Re: Transgender man wins women's 100 yd and 400 yd freestyle races.
Some of that list was definitely arguable, eg. the value of lockdowns and the lab leak theory, though not vaccines imo. But yes, this is not the place for that discussion. It was Boggles who posted it though along with the fact that Sey appears to be a Trump voter (together with 77 million others), as evidence that she can't be trusted on this issue, which she is clearly committed to.
It's hardly a surprise that she is happy with Trump for delivering what she asked for on Title IX. The character assassination that's being meted out to women who stick their heads over the parapet is pretty unsavoury tbh.
Re: Leinster Team Talk Thread (Love you Furlong time)
Why would you be worried? It's not even nearly our first team - maybe four or five players would make a first choice 23 and not many in our first 15. Top place is more or less secured. It's a frustrating loss but it'll likely be meaningless.
Re: Presidential Election 2025
Less of the personal jibes in every single post. Does it really get you that upset that people don't unconditionally worship St. Catherine?
We've the Irish Syrian Solidarity Movement calling her out for spouting Assad & Putin's propaganda in the Dáil.
She's on the Dáil record teaming up with Daly and Wallace in opposing sanctions against Assad's regime - despite their various and ongoing human rights atrocities.
Here we have her blaming the USA for the Syrian conflict, and at the same time trying to justify Russian and Iranian involvement in Syria - no blame for Assad though.
Dáil record again - blaming NATO for the war in Ukraine
Raising questions in the Dáil asking how we can try and prevent the EU from providing Ukraine with the means to defend itself
And of course - she happily endorses Daly as she claims that Ukraine should have been left to Putin's mercy and actively blocked from defending itself.
