Some nice cars coming into view now with classic tax, I'd be seriously tempted by a 6 cyclinder BMW E34.

Vehicles registered in 1989 are now 30 years old and qualify for "Vintage" or classic motor tax just like any other one registered before that year.

I have 3 cars now with €56 a year tax. I only need another 9 years before my 2.8 becomes €56

How does the insurance stack up on those classics?

Loads of great older cars now in that bracket. Some are reasonably affordable and others are a joke.

All budget depending, but I'd be looking at an early R32 GT-R :)

€350 for the year for them all. They are all on limited mileage policies (4k miles per year) which is fine.

I think with some fairly modern cars now becoming 30 yo it might only be a matter of time before this rule starts to be abused !

In the meantime, the 56yoyo tax and the 20 yoyo insurance (top up to my existing classic insurance ) means there was literally no good reason my wife could say no to my latest yoke !

Those MR2's are a thing of beauty. Sums up the 1980s perfectly in one vehicle!

That second one needs to be imported. What's the craic with importing a vintage car?

He mentions in the advert that it will come taxed and tested so I presume you wouldn't have to worry about it

The Irish Reg number is on the ad..

The zv plate is better than a “ky” but that’s just a personal preference..

Those wheels in the 535 look like Chinese knockoffs of Throwing Stars. Terrible. I'm sure you'd forget about that though every time you push that right pedal.

They do look a bit funny..the style 23 (M Contour) wheels came first day on some of the e36 M3..

They are called contours not throwing stars. The stars came on the M5 not the M3. The contours came on the M3 evolution.

I have a 99 3 series, only 10 years to go... there can be a massive price premium on the over 30 cars.

My thoughts exactly.. as soon as a car qualifies for cheap tax, it triples in asking price.. motor tax being a thing ruins the second hand and classic market to some extent.

Imagine in another 21 years a Nissan Leaf will be a 'classic'

It would have to be JDM. 1st gen or early 2nd gen MR2. Silvia S13, 180SX etc.

I like the C4 Corvette too, classic boxy 80s interior.
