I wouldn't bother with buying from dealers in that price range as they add no value to the car. Any warranty you get from a dealer on a car in that price range will not be worth very much as there is no profit in it for the dealer. Treat anything from a dealer in that price range as a private sale.

I called the guy selling the audi and he said there is no warranty at that price and said the only issue with the car is that the front windows dont work due to something that costs about 50 quid to install second hand, not sure what he meant, he said the engine in the 1.9 are fantastic but the 2.0 give trouble

Realistically you were never going to get a warranty on a €1500 car from a dealer.

true, any idea what the issue would be on the car with the windows not working? the dealer told me its some motor or something which can be replaced for about 40 quid....

are the a4 1.9 diesel a reliable car in general?

Why hasn't the dealer fixed the windows when the cost is as low as he says?

The issue is that the car will fail the NCT with a drivers window that doesn't work. And there's only 6 months NCT left. And if it was only 40 to fix it, the dealer could have done that by now. Chances are it will cost more. A lot more. I'd walk away.

LPG is indeed another option, depending on how conveniently you can fill up on your commute. Not that many LPG stations around...

Haha. His answer will confirm that us telling you to walk away was good advice. Go on, indulge us, jack Hackett, give him a call and let us know what he said :)

The problem with buying cheap cars from dealers is that any problems with the car are generally not fixed as the dealer doesn't want to spend any money, time or effort on the car. They take them as trade-ins or cast offs and usually want to sell them on as is while making a small profit on them.

Yes, but that's simple deal - they claim fix would cost the likes of 40 notes, so OP offers to give 40 extra for fix.

I went down to him for the craic and he said its a comfort line box or something to that effect which affects the windows, central locking etc... i asked if he would do it for 40 quid and he said if he was to fix it he would then sell the car for 1900 euro!! he said he has about 6 cars he needs to just get rid of as he hasnt the space....

CCM - comfort control module? You could probably pick one up cheap enough, but with no guarantee that will fix it.

    yes, any thoughts?

    You have been warned.

A petrol car would be more economical then that and cheaper tax.

I see that Audi comes complete with a Bose Surround sound system. (!)
Who was it on here had a serious hard-on for his cars sound system?
Think it was in a Lexus.

I think you might have misunderstood the warnings people were giving.
But fair enough, don't say you haven't been warned.
I think at that price and with that engine I wouldn't bother with a mechanic.
Just check if the coolant isn't gunked up, the oil filler cap is not a milky colour and it's not smokey.

thanks for the advice on what to check for, perhaps i have misread the warnings, when you say with that engine, is that a good or bad thing?!

As I said previously your really feeding off the bottom of the market when looking at cars from dealers in that price range. Buying a cheap Lexus diesel which has a terrible reputation for reliability from any dealer who will not want to know you after you buy it is a disaster waiting to happen imo.
