Mad game, not a sweeper to be seen! Hard luck. Those young fellas made light of the heat anyway!

Back door in minor. I don't know who they play next. Disappointing to lose, especially after beating Dub in earlier rounds. Both teams might make final. What are the Munster teams like and Galway?

There is round robin of Galway, yourselves and Munster runners up. I assume Dublin and Kilkenny avid one another if KK get one of top spots.

the minor championship makes electing a Pope seem straight forward!

3 way group now with galway and losers of munster final.top 2 from 3 into semi final.presume we wont play dublin if we qualify.I predicted a dublin v kk final at the start in earlier post.

Best of luck to our senior team and management today its going to be extremely hard hurl in these conditions but hopefully cody will have the lads right and lesson learned and if our fowards can click and if billy ryan and aylward can trouble the scoreboard we'll hopefully have a chance.

    The best Kk team on paper is;
    Murphy
Murphy; Walsh; Deegan (he’ll play here anyway)
    Holden; Buckley; Morrissey
    Fogarty; Maher
    TJ; Fennelly; Hogan
    Aylward; Walsh; Donnelly

Our forward line has a hat of all Ireland’s, as does our backs. The forward line should be on top of there markers, no reason not to be. They are better.
The midfield should be easily able to cope with Galway’s we have the hurlers in there and Fogarty has shown up to 2015, what he is capable off.
Reality is the midfield are overrun and the forwards are changed out as they didn’t raise a gallop vs Wexford.
So we should not be entering this game, hoping for something special to win it.
    Before you mention injuries;
Previously these lads would be busting themselves to get on this team, even injured lads pushing.. not anymore, only a couple of lads bust themselves on this side - Buckley, Padraig, TJ, Eoin Murphy, the others haven’t played well since 2015. Walter has turned the clock very much this year and is a real leader, my hat off to him, cannot say that about the others.
The secret about the last side was above all else - work ethic and drive. Everyone put it in, and the older players drove it on. Certain players are the older ones now, but only some of them are acting as leaders. Larkin was away with army.. never affected his performance or reduced his ability to at least try when on the pitch.

That's the whole thing. Awlward and Ryan need to trouble the scoreboard along with the rest. If we can hold galway and keep within distance to the last 15 mins we will have a great chance. Expect the full compliment of subs today.

Conor Delaney and Jason cleere if we are losing in any defensive areas and costs pick from Colin, richie, blanch, Scanlon, Donnelly or Sheehan up front.
Really looking forward to this now.

By the way what a freak show yesterday in the minors. Hopefully they will have learned a lot from that and tighten up whoever they face next.

infairness it looks like with the selection his going to try maybe work the short ball a bit and try keep it on the floor leahy and ryan are very fast and hopefully if we're still in the game later on spring the few subs.
We can't do what we did the last day lumping missiles down on their half back line thats not going to work.

  • Registered Users Posts: 593 ✭✭✭mullinr2

We will need goals to win today. We are going to have to play a short game today and work it into the inside forward line. Long balls are not going to beat this Galway team. They are too tall and strong. Defence needs to be tight and not be dragged out of positions. If we manage to do that we might have a chance

Thats great. Stadium announcer just welcomed us to the Leinster FOOTBALL final.

Great half, if a little poor in finished product. Alyward working exceptionally hard but he really lacks a little wristyness to get a shot off.

Question: if TJ’s 21 yard free mid way through first half was for tackle on Alyward how was it not a penalty?? We’ll inside small box.

  • Registered Users Posts: 167 ✭✭noserider

Would be very happy with that 1st half.
With a good bit of fire power on the bench if we hang in there we will be close

That was a foul on Reid. Ref brought it back when Ger failed to get goal.

I really don't think Alyward is up to scratch. Really hope I can be proved wrong.

We're reverting to just driving long balls down the pitch... Need to stop doing this.

Our biggest problem, and it's been that the whole championship, is that we are not scoring enough from play.

Could be a good time to bring on Richie Hogan (if actually fit) and Fennelly

We really need to score more from play. It prob won't be played again at Croke Park which will suit Galway

we hung in there and finished well but fair play to the lads i thought our defence was very good and we should of being further ahead at half time just a small bit of composer.
Galway took over early in the 2nd half but hogan helped in a few scores so hopefully we have a trump card with him starting next week.
overall we have to be happy with the lads some unbelievable fielding in the first half we know know we can compete with the best hopefully we can kick on.

I thought we played into Galway's hands a lot more in second half. Our use of the ball was much better in first half. Lads Ger Alyward shooting is awful, Billy Ryan had a good game but some of his shooting was poor too

  • Registered Users Posts: 731 ✭✭✭dubcat51

Really should have been further ahead at half time(dis most of the hurling)blanch poir when he came in (he is hit and miss)mossy very poor.ryan and awltard loojed dangeroys but need to convert more.bottom line is we are well up to beating galway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 127 ✭✭paulie gaultieri

Great to be back in Croke Park I think that game will bring on the newer panel members a huge amount.

Whatever about not scoring a goal or two we didnt concede any either. Most solid defensive display in a while.

    Roll on next Sunday.

I say Galway wouldn't be happy playing in thurles , I wouldn't be to put out about it look at all the matches we have done well there big wide open pitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭TomsOnTheRoof

Neither side will be happy with the draw but it'll hurt Galway more than it will Kilkenny. They're All Ireland champions and in their own minds would have thought they were past the days of draws and replays against, what is in reality, a depleted Kk side.

Thought the backs played well enough but poor shooting up front let us down. At the same time it was heartening to see us create so many chances, even if we did squander them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭C__MC

It was great to see Kilkenny fielding brilliantly today a real throw back to the noughties. I thought Cody would have taken in hogan and fennelly much earlier. Problem for the loser is that limerick are up the week after- extra time today should have been played

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭Pat Treacy

John Donnelly did very well when he came on Ritchie worked his head well with pases general play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 540 ✭✭✭usualstripes

Really pleased with the effort today. Should have had a lot more scores in the 1st half but these things happen. A lot is being made of kilkennys inability to score from play but if you look at wexford and galway their backs will not Leahy you pass and use the hurl or arm around the neck to give the free as opposed to letting the man through. We are guilty at times of this too but not nearly to the extent of galway and wexford.
Billy Ryan impressive today with his ability to come onto low ball. His striking and point taking will improve with experience. Donnelly and hogan made impressions when coming in.
Leahy outfielded a number of times. He needs lower ball especially against the height of galways half backs. Maher very impressive too. Backs strong.
All in all a lot to build from.
Probably see hogan starting next Sunday.
    Walter found it tough today.
Sublime score from tj to level it.
Game is there for the taking next Sunday.

I really want Aylward to find his 2015 form but he's not finding it and how he was left on for 55 minutes with Richie sitting on the bench is beyond me. Especially with how quick Cody pulled Richie against Wexford.

Happy the style of play is generally back from the league

WE should insist it's played at a Leinster venue. We have now a Connaght team playing in a Leinster final at a Munster venue...

Thats called cutting off your nose to spite your face. Thurles is only out the road for Kilkenny people. It's a handier venue and better pitch than either Tullamore or Portlaoise. Good call from the GAA.

The GAA are taking the Mick.

The Leinster Final being played in Munster.

Will we soon see the Munster Final being played in Leinster.

The GAA management have some neck.

Time to start staying away to highlight their total disregard to the Leinster Championship Final teams and both sets of supporters.

You need to settle down. There's is clearly the most appropriate venue. Who cares if it is in Tipperary or Munster. Big deal.

Best surface, easy access for both counties, can take a large attendance, experience hosting big games ...

They would not allow Waterford to play their home matches in Nowlan Park!

Where was the Comogie played? Gibraltar?? Not a splash of green to be seen.

Out of curiosity, what condition is in Nowlan Park in (if anyone has seen it lately)? Usually it's in amazing condition

  • Registered Users Posts: 521 ✭✭✭kilkennyboy

Defence outstanding today. We are just a horrible team to play against. Cynical, physical
And just willing to chase and Harry all day.
If we could get 2 of the subs to step it up in the forwards.
The impossible is possible. No doubt if it went on another minute we would have got over the line.
Galway will be better next week
    But we can improve also

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,747 ✭✭✭brookville

So now that the dust has settled on yesterday what do we think?we had a great chance to catch the tribesmen yesterday and we could of being more ahead at half time but maybe on the balance a draw was the fairest result the wides count were fairly even we probably would of taken a draw this time yesterday.
Our midfielders and half fowards dropped back to help out our backs fogarty was dropping back to the half back line and buckley stood back and picked up a lot of breaking ball and his distribution was better.Paul murphy had his best game in a few years and some of padraigs catches in the first half were unbelievable.
It must be said that there was 6 lads making their croker debut yesterday and they all done well so hopefully this will benefit us in the longer run.Joey who gets a lot of stick done very well and is probably suited to the wing knowing he has a bit of protection behind him.Billy ryan offered something different and could of had another 3 points but i thought aylward while not back to his old form he worked like a dog and made it hard for defenders when he hadnt the ball.Donnelly got a great score and made tjs last score.
Hopefully yesterdays appearance will bring on hogan his vision for morrisseys pass was brillant and fair play to enda for taking it on.Mossy ran himself into the ground but id nearly start fennelly the next day out on the wing.
This game should bring on galway but hopefully it will bring us on aswell and give the lads the confidence to kick on next weekend.
