Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Have you managed to find the Quorn roast anywhere? I still haven't seen any in Tesco or Dunnes.

It is in Carlow Tesco, got one yesterday. It's down to this or the Aldi Roast thing for Christmas for me, which I'm trying tonight.

Quorn roast slices quite well with a mandoline type deelie.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Look, not wishing to diss anyone, but the desire for meat looking meals gets me from vegans and veggies. Why?

Please explain. And I know it's because you don't want animals killed for your dinner. But still. Probably an old argument sorry, don't mean to offend anyone. Am very low meat eater myself. But won't substitute.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I am in Dublin.

Variety I'd imagine. Also, I'd say that most vegans and veggies were meat eaters once upon a time so we have favourite meals that we like to recreate with veggie options. Two of my ultimate favourite meals when I was a meat eater were superquinn bangers and mash and meatballs and spaghetti, so I try to recreate them with veggie options when I can.

Had the Aldi Roast yesterday, I over cooked it a bit but it wasn't too bad, outer shell/skin was very tough though (probably due to the overcooking).

I recommend wrapping them in tinfoil with some water while cooking. Will keep it softer. Thought it tasted better when it cooled a bit too.

Butter or some glaze would work well and be tasty too!

The Aldi 'no Turkey' roast was perfect! So yummy! I would definitely get it again. Had it with lots of gravy and cranberry sauce. Amazing value, going to grab a couple for the freezer.

Where can I get harissa paste? Is it in any way spicy?

Harissa is spicy yes, so be careful with it. it does have a delicious flavour. You can get Al'fez Harissa Paste in Tesco.

I tried out the quorn roast this evening. It was very good. Tasted like stuffed Turkey. It'll do for my Xmas dinner

I've not seen that Aldi roast on the shelves in about a month in either on my locals - be quicker getting a PS5 at this rate.

noticed some vegan roasts in the freezers at lidl (big sausage shaped things) looked like soya protein based, should have taken a pic as cant find any mention of them anywhere.

I had the Lidl one a couple of days ago in the in laws.. I thought it was savage. Needs gravy though.

I’ve not had the ALDI one.

Have you ever tried the Gardein Holiday Roast like the one I linked in the Christmas thread ?

    It is really nice.

Not sure about it’s availability but worth trying if you ever get the chance.

Well this question ended up being redundant as none of the Lidl's in Limerick had the roast and I had to go to two Aldi's to get one.

Not seen it around. My friend loved Gardein products in Canada. Not sure they've launched yet in Europe

We went all out this year and made the "Beet Wellington" from the Happy Pear. It was delicious and I highly recommend to anyone who wants their own 'from scratch' vegan centrepiece!

You might have dodged a bullet, my partner and I had the vegan roast just now and it was truly vile. It pains me to bin food, but it was inedible stodge and we both couldn't eat it. It also took forever to cook, it says 40-45 mins on the packaging but was still partly frozen inside. Had to leave it in another 15. And no, it's not our oven.
