Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No. I didnt get hit with any customs charges. I used the EU express option. Only cost 3.41.

the options are priority line or expedited shipping - was it the priority line one and roughly how long did delivery take?

I got a OnePlus off GearBest, shipped on the 25/07 and arrived today. The one that avoids customs is really slow because they send it via Germany and repackage it there.

But when I say it arrived today all I got was an empty plastic bag, the phone went missing somewhere along the way. Don't think that's typical of GearBest but I'd recommend the shipping insurance and paying via PayPal anyway.

that's the priority line method yeah?

so what do you do now with your empty bag - claim through paypal?

Yeah EU priority line. I've raised a ticket with GearBest for the missing phone, they're supposed to respond within 24hrs so I'll see what they say. 180 days with PayPal to claim if it's needed anyway.
Big hassle to wait up to another 20 business days for a replacement phone though so hopefully I'll just get a refund.

Thanks for that link. I will check it out and see if I can get any info from it. I suppose I could just pop into an Eir store on the way home from work.

Did you get everything sorted? Waiting on your experience before ordering mine. You're my guinea pig:):):)

Ny buddy in Germany had one waiting for me when I visited last week (the 6Gb/128Gb version). Seems fine so far, my previous Zenfone 5 is moving on to its new owner this w/end.
Main reasons I went for the Z6 were:

    a) Good experience with the Zenfone 5
    b) Headphone socket & FM radio
    c) Big battery
    d) Not crazy expensive for very upto date specs

Just a tiny bit larger than the 5 & happy to see the end of the 'notch'.

OK so it took months longer than I wanted and in the end I had to settle for a different color and less storage/RAM than I wanted (all 4 per-orders didn't work out but turns out Asus UK will ship to Ireland) but I at last I have a Zenfone 6!

    Now too the testing.

    What happened?

A good bit of back and forth with GearBest since then. I wouldn't say their customer service is the best anyway but they always get back within 1 working day. They asked me to launch a claim with the shipping company so I raised a ticket online with AnPost, got a letter of acknowledgement dated the 29/08 but haven't heard anything since then. GearBest say they have also launched a ticket with the shipper (AnPost or Deutsche Post? Or both?). That was on the 23rd of August and they said it would take 7-10 working days. Hadn't heard anything back today so I've just escalated my PayPal dispute to a claim.

I would generally use Amazon for online shopping and I've found GearBest's customer service lacking in comparison for sure. I can't really blame them for the thing going missing in the post but their response is way too slow. I ordered the phone on the 11th of July so it's a joke at this stage.

An update was pushed out a few days back. I didn't know of it until by chance I went looking for one. So they may not always show themselves in the shade.

Is that the one with Sept 1 security patch, showed up for me late last week.

    How is the Zenfone 6?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,027 ✭✭✭opus

I've very happy with it, just a tiny bit bigger than the Zenfone 5 I has previously. Should be seeing Android 10 on it before the end of the year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

Have to say I'm very happy with it. Battery life is really good. No stuttering in daily use. As cool as the full megapixel selfie cam sounds, the actual camera itself is 'good' probably not the best out there but most of the time it's fine. I suppose the HDR plus could process a little quicker but I've absolutely no complaints anywhere else in the phone. It sounds amazing with a built-in headphone jack! It's also well up there for driving good quality cans.
Like how it's very 'stock' looking but has loads of extras.
If could change one thing I would be that it was plastic on the back and not glass, it's nice to look at but fingerprints are shocking...

Suppose heres a good 3 month review:

Maybe depends where it came from as they normally roll out in batches, my one was bought in Germany. There's a link to download it in the article below.

Android 10 is rolling out to the ASUS Zenfone 6

Thanks. Gonna VPN into there and see if it works like the old one plus of old.

How're you finding Android 10? Only small things for me, Smart Lock doesn't seem to keep the phone unlocked when I'm at home any more & a few apps haven't been updated for 10 so don't work.

Yea now that you say it, all my smart lock places are not working and the Bluetooth auto load are out too (car starts up, maps loads on connection)

It was giving me warnings about my pebble watch app not working but a day after it came back to life on its own.

Have to keep an eye out for more bugs.

Big enough looking update just came through, from reading online looks like it might help with support for the Google camera.

Have the ZF 6 around 9 months now & very happy with it. Asus seem to be keeping it up to date as the May security update came through a few days back & expect it to get at least Android 11 with a sporting chance of 12. Support for the Google Phone app appeared recently & the GCAM app continues to improve.

No complaints really, can't see myself wanting to change it for anything for another year or two.

Yea got the last update fine but after a few days it boot looped for about 45mins with just the Asus logo then restarted and was wiped clean. All good now after I reloaded everything... That was it's first ever glitch too.

Like yourself, I am very happy with this underrated device.

Hey guys. Just wondering if ye know where I could pick this up at a good price?

I got it via the online Asus site in Germany but not available at the moment. The ZF 7 is rumoured to be launching any day now so you might get deals if it's available anywhere.

    Thanks opus - much appreciated.

Zenfone 7 is launching on Aug 26th. Will be interested to see it but the ZF 6 does everything I need so probably won't be changing.

Tempted but as I've only got one phone think I'll wait for the stable release.

So many are going to be pissed over the 60Hz LCD screen. Not me tho, 60Hz is fine as its not like the phone is choppy or lags.. but would still like the option, and am happy about LCD as to many AMOLED screens have burned on me over the years but I know not many agree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,027 ✭✭✭opus

The new version is AMOLED for both the normal & pro models.

The Asus Zenfone 7 comes with a 3-lense flip camera and a 5,000mAh battery

Can't really comment on the screen but looks like a solid upgrade to me. Too bad looks like there will be a price bump as well though.

Was thinking of buying the ZF7 Pro, its on did.ie but is 899, whereas it is 799 on asus german store, how did you get it to Ireland, i tried both German and French stores and neither ship out of their country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,027 ✭✭✭opus

I go to Germany a lot (or rather I used to pre-CV19) so just had it delivered to a friend's place. It was mentioned somewhere that it would be for sale in Ireland so maybe ASUS will sell it here themselves? The ZF6 was €529 I think for the 128Gb version last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,027 ✭✭✭opus

Seems Asus have opened the beta of Android 11 to anyone who wants to install it going by this post on XDA.

Looks like Android 11 might well show up on the ZF6 before the end of the year going by this. I think it was sometime in Jan last year when it got 10.

ASUS starts rolling out the Android 11 update to the ZenFone 6 in Taiwan

Probably the last major Android update it will get.

My handset just got OTA android 11.
After a few hours use, I'm very impressed with the extra battery life and faster performance I'm seeing/feeling

See the Zenfone 8 is launching later on today. Much as I like my new gadgets I can't really come up with a reason to shift from the ZF6.

Yep, I'm in the very same boat! I love my Zonefone 6! The battery is still lasting all day long (and then some), the cameras (that everyone said would fail quickly) is still going strong and its 2 generations old now... (and I use it to unlock my phone so it's used a lot) I'm having no slowdowns or stutters whatsoever at and its still getting updates!

It's so hard to knock this wonderful phone. (and has a headphone jack...) ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,027 ✭✭✭opus

Same for me, it really is an all purpose device. Looks like we're the only two people using one :)

Maybe the ZF 9 next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,027 ✭✭✭opus

Glad to see the ZF6 is still getting some love from Asus, the June security patch appeared today along with a new one-hand mode feature. I've had it two years now & it still does everything that I need.

ZF 7 user here, first one the flip camera lasted 6 weeks, returned and have a new 7, going strong but only 2 weeks in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

... and my Zenfone 6 bit the bullet a month or so ago. funny thing everyone said the camera would go first but that thing lasted right the way to the last day of use without a glitch and was used to face unlock every day so was always going. In the end a hardware failure on the mainbord killed it and now it wont even boot past the QC logo. oh well.

However I have found a phone that still gives me everything I wanted... or almost loat! a 6.7 LCD screen (no to amoled burn-in) a SD 870 CPU (no to 888 over heating) a headphone jack!! (Whoop f%^&ing whoop!) a 500 mAH battery (so loved the ZP6 battery), almost stock UI and a SD card up to 1TB for only 388! (499 on moto site but 388 on amazon.de) all on the Moto G 100. Also comes with a dock for connecting/showing everything on your TV windows/computer like. Me happy but will remember the Zenfone 6 fondly.

Sorry to hear it's bit the dust 🙁 My own one still going strong although a friend in Germany is going to see if she can sign up for the upcoming Pixel 6 offers there so might well end up with the non-pro version next month.
