Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Double bogey on the 8th, back to -12 now and that’s goodnight unfortunately.

Fighting for a top 20 now unfortunately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,499 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

Hopefully he can turn it around on back 9. Was such a good chance to seal a place in the Masters this week.

And another one gone on 9. +5 for his last 27 now 😬

Seems to have gone totally off the boil. Hopefully, he can steady the ship over the last 9 holes. His head must be totally melted at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,942 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Yeah hopefully he can forget the last two holes and get it together for a decent finish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Very disappointed with the last 2 days. Hopefully he can turn it around and finish in the top 10. He'll learn from this I would think. A lot of great players have choked and come back better...

Pro-am,2 days playing like a pro and 2 as an amateur :-( Seems to be in every bunker lately, hopefully picks it up.

Really poor from Seamus since Friday. Hasn't handled the pressure at all. Hopefully he can shake it off and move on. Big learnings to take from the weekend.

Terrible coverage of the golf. Sky is a waste of money.

Its unwatchable, they dont even seem to bother anymore.

It would be like showing a football match take a break after 5 minutes then come back show a closeup of the grass, then an aerial view of the stadium, have a sideline interview with a manager, then show a few minutes of the game then off to another ad break.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭hawkwing

Hopefully plays 18 like the other day and gets a top 10...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 347 ✭✭Scrabbel

Birdie on the last would guarantee him at worst T8th with 3 others. Looking at the bright side, it’s huge progress that a result like that would be considered a bit disappointing. His consistency of high finishes is still incredible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 347 ✭✭Scrabbel

15-footer for birdie and back to even for the day and T8 finish, approx $245k. Courageous!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭hawkwing

    Got it, thank God

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,499 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

Fair play, secured the top 10.

birdied 18th to finish top 10, currently sitting t8. Good finish to a difficult couple of days. Should move up a couple of places in the OWGR and extra fed ex points and potentially $250,000 in the bag as well. Desperately disappointing last two days but that’s life and he’ll learn from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

Great to see him pull it back to get in the Top 10.

Maybe it just didn't happen for him at the weekend. Had just 1 double over the 4 rounds. Hardly a complete collapse.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,840 ✭✭✭Panrich

Should go up to about 43 but somebody might jump him down a place or two. He should gain over 5.5 points for this week.

Hes getting closer to Augusta every week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,637 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

Going to be T9. Despite a disappointing weekend it is another solid week. Picking up those couple of shots coming in may ultimately help secure his top 50 spot for when the Masters invites are posted out.

Another big pay day, will be just under $240k as things stand and will move up to 8th in the fedex rankings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,825 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Considering how he played at the weekend I think T9 is a good result. Could've easily fallen apart today and finished T31

On Wednesday evening if someone said he’d finish with another top 10 everyone would have been delighted.

Friday evening must have been very strange for him after finishing his round. He has never been in that position before and the event is a bit of a mad one with the pro-am element. I would hope his head isn’t affected by the way his weekend went. It’s a real missed opportunity. A pair of 70s at the weekend would have closed it out but that’s golf and better players have had worse things happen and have kicked on from it. A seriously respectable finish from Seamus in the end and another top 10 is seriously good going.

I wonder will he slip an extra week off in and skip a planned event in a couple of weeks? Mentally and physically these 4 days must have been seriously taxing. He’s probably played a combined 24 hours of golf since Thursday. On to Phoenix now and another chance for a good week and hopefully lock up the Masters spot once and for all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 710 ✭✭✭Lad GAGA

In the end he showed a lot of character to hang in there and claim a top ten spot. As has been mentioned he would have been quite happy with a top ten finish on Wednesday but he played so brilliantly on the first two days that the last two days were disappointing and there was a real drop off in his game. But hopefully he will learn a lot from the experience and be better for it when he gets into that position again. It will be interesting to see how he gets on this weekend in a 'normal' competition, if he can reclaim the form he showed on Thursday/Friday he will continue to knock on the door.

Someone said easier he doesn't have a coach. If that's the case it's something he needs to rectify quickly.

I'm not talking about swing changes but somebody you can talk to when things go as badly wrong as they did on Saturday. He hadn't fixed his swing for Sunday and his putting, while decent, wasn't at the level it has been either.

If he had somebody to talk to he could have been back on his bike on Sunday and contending.

When you are rising like he is you cannot accept mediocrity for two consecutive days.

Really enjoyed watching another Irish person in contention. Whether it was nerves or swing or fatigue or a combination it doesn't matter as long as he continues to believe in himself. What happened to him Sat and Sun has happened to every top pro at some stage. Fair dues for figuring out a way to get back into top 10.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

The reason he doesn’t have a coach is because he stripped away all the complications he had in his game. Simon, his caddy, is a +5 golfer and is as good as any coach. They’re good pals and can trash almost anything out together. What they couldn’t fix together was what sent Seamus to Bob Rotella. What happened at the weekend is something that can happen any golfer. Perhaps the mental fragilities that we hoped had vanished are still there. His swing was very quick Saturday & yesterday, that’s purely nerves and very understandable considering the circumstances. I think if he was one shot ahead instead of 5 going into Saturday we’d have seen a different round from him.

And if he had a coach he'd have been out with him on Saturday after the round telling him to swing at 80% and hey presto he's back in action.

Obviously there was nobody there to sort him out.

Plenty of players with coaches have blown big leads or had consecutive bad rounds.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

It’s not as easy as that, anyone that plays sport regardless of the level I think everyone would agree. In golf especially once your momentum starts to turn, it’s very hard to get yourself back to where you should be. At that level, momentum is such a huge factor it’s a killer for a the majority of players once they have a spell of bad holes.

A much tougher field this week for Seamus at the Phoenix open . Another top ten would be great

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

The field is of no concern to him. He’s ranked 46 in the world he won’t be phased by the big names and scoring wise it will have no affect on him if he plays like he did last Thursday and Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Agree with a lot of what you say, but don't fully agree with this. Field strength is obviously a factor. His only win was in an opposite field event and last week was a depleted field due to the Saudi but bonanza.

A lot of his good form last year was in the weaker field events. He can take his form to a new level now that he actually qualifies for all the strong field events, but he has to actually go and do it yet.

Who knows, maybe the fact it was Spieth and Cantlay closing him down last week was a factor in his poor play over the weekend?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

But he wasn’t in the bigger events last year he had to earn his corn in the so called weaker events. He didn’t look out of place in the tournament of champions last month but I do agree he’s got to put the foot down in the bigger events. He’s in some hot events this year so we’ll see how things go. Scoring wise the more elite players won’t be shooting much lower than what’s being scored at the moment. The events with the majority of the top 20, not counting majors here, are usually set up so difficult that it brings the best players to the top of the leaderboards. This week will be very interesting to see how Seamus plays.

5ft left for birdie on the first, hopefully he will keep us entertained again until Sunday night :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭dublin49

tough day at the office, missed 2 x 6 footers on 1 & 2.struggling on par 5s ,scoring modest enough so if he can get in around par will be ok.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,299 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

    Hopefully get a birdie here

16 pars, 1 birdie and 1 bogey. The putter was ice cold again by the looks of it. These type of rounds can be mentally draining on players and as Rory often says those are the rounds you just grind it out and get off the course.

He will need a low enough round tomorrow to be in with any sort of chance. An interesting stat, Seamus has been in the top 10 after R1 a total of 9 times since the start of last season, joint second in that particular ranking so it just goes to show how you need a fast start to be contending on Sunday’s.

Liverpool just scored their 10th goal of the season from a corner. Meanwhile back at the ranch......

Level par round for Seamus, not sure he's aware of Liverpools goal from a corner..

Funnily enough he probably was aware, he’s a massive Liverpool fan!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

He'll be used to being contented with a Top 4 finish so 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭hawkwing

Finally one drops, still a good chance of making the cut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,942 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Just not firing on all cylinders, could make the cut but I don't think he's doing much. Game is in the same place it was over the final two rounds last weekend.

There must be some kind of asswhole test to pass to get tickets for the event in Phoenix.

I know 16 is set up to be like the baying mob at the coliseum, but even on other holes there is some amount of clowns
