Didn’t Foley have the highest lunchtime ratings slot and they haven’t recovered since he left? Hence the whole King of radio sthick.

150,000 listeners if I remember rightly.

"What was your word for skipping school ?" Today's hard hitting topic on Muireann's show

She stole this from one of the questions of that quiz going about online about slang and where your slang comes from.

So it’s content stealing rather than creating today then?

I'm sure they'd refer to it as Content Re-Creating

Safe to say that Dec Pearce’s music choices, over the last 7 days filling in for D&D, have been a level above any one else’s on daytime Today Fm Since the heydays is Darcy Foley Fenton !

I’ve only vague recollection, so I might be wrong, but despite the massive love-in for Foley on these boards (and god knows, on reflection, he was infinitely superior to what’s there today), I don’t think his numbers were ever that great.

Ray Foley had 153 thousand listeners and it was Darcy - Dempsey - Cooper - Foley in that order. Thejournal.ie this week has Muireann O'Connell now on 99 so a drop of 54 thousand. Not a love in but it seems he was doing well when he left. He's the number one in Cork now on red fm.

Fenton? I'm fairly sure he was usually ahead of Foley

Tony Fenton does not feature in the top 30 so he must have had less than him. Ian Dempsey has lost only 9 thousand since but Dermot and Dave have dropped 84 thousand, lunchtime 54 thousand. Huge losses.

It’s a shame Foley isn’t broadcasting to a national audience in my opinion.

He’s been on top top form here lately!!! As good as he ever was on Today fm! Him and his co presenter Jay have great chemistry

2fm is his only option if he wants that to happen & Dan Healy said he wouldn't be bringing him to the station.

Agreed, any fans of his old TodayFM show needs to check out his RedFM work, they put up podcasts of the show each day on iTunes.

Get the downcast app and like the show and they automatically go in there it’s very handy

Just when I thought Today Fm couldn't get any worse, I turn on The Last Word and Karl Deeter is presenting it. Mother of God, make it stop....

Ah, he irritates me and he's everywhere these days. Can't trust someone who was the ethics officer for a crowd like Renua in any case,

I think there has been a more varied playlist the last few weeks. Great to hear

They must have finally read this thread :p

It has gotten a bit more varied alright - for a period of time before the Christmas, it was nearly the same 5 songs played over and over again.

Ed Smyth has outdone himself with tonight's Eds Songs of Praise.

All songs from 1994 (I'm showing my age) and all absolute belters.

I know I'm repeating myself but this is by far the best show on Irish radio.

Listened to that while stuck on the M7 last night, it was absolutely brilliant

Opened with Supersonic and then I think there was three in a row of Longview - Sabotage - Love Spreads. I was losing my sh*t, absolutely epic.

Nothing but praise for Ed. Seems like a sound guy, keeps the chat short & sweet, and plays unreal tunes. As an added bonus, the ad breaks are only about 1min long too! He is a breath of fresh air on an otherwise flagging (imo) station.

For those interested, he has created a Spotify playlist of last nights songs. He has a few more playlists from his show on his Spotify profile too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,431 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

He also posts the track list on Instagram after the show

Listening back to Ed myself now. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant stuff. Hard to believe its the same station that MO'C and Ferg poison our eardrums on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,522 ✭✭✭johnire

I agree. I think it’s very interesting the way he appears to have distanced himself from Darcy. When the show started he was basically Darcy sidekick albeit producer. Now he’s back he’s the producer again but there’s zero interaction from him. A very wise man I think.

D'Arcy used to use Ed as a sort of crutch, I felt. If Darcy thought he was struggling to fill time (don't know why considering he knows about content creation :p ) he would invariably get Ed to chime in.

Except for his Sunday evening show (which is excellent), the only other time you'd hear Ed is doing the TV slot on the last word. A pure waste imo.

I heard him briefly doing this slot a couple of weeks back and there was an amusing moment where his female sidekick (that irritating Jennifer Gannon or some clone of hers) was proclaiming the Netflix series "Dirty John" as her "pick of the week".

Ed chimed in and dismissively said - "You choose wrong" and went on to completely write off the series as daytime soap opera shlock :pac:
