I wouldn’t be anti-EU in essence but I’ll be the first one to argue that the EU needs to be seriously looked at and go back to the drawing board. I’m all for continent wide food security, integration of strategic industries under joint governance, safe product standards, multi national management of natural resources, monetary stability and so on but that leaves you with the elephant in the room.

Organisations like the EU will always go on a power grab, wether that’s driven by it’s senior officials to justify their existence or driven by the desire of some of it’s member states to control other member states I don’t know but the problem is that in the end you end up with a very powerful supra national authority with practically zero accountability.

Well yeah, if your pockets stretch to several millions in legal fees you may go and try your hand in Luxembourg after you’ve exhausted the national legal system.

I wasn't that bothered about the eu either to be honest, i thought it was a good thing, until it changed from being a loose trading bloc, into being an organisation that wants to micro-manage every little thing, right down to how many rounds you can have in your gun and what they can be made of. Its gone too far.

I am of the same mind as this. But I will add that at what cost do we surrender our freedoms to these unelected/unelectable people? People talk economy, money, roads blah. Sooo, we have to give up any illusion of freedom we had before now because apparently there can be no jobs without the EU lording it over us.

As it is the EU is fecked. They have jumped the shark and there needs to be serious reform to take the power from the lobbyists and socialists. They do some good, but for me, what's the point in being pro-EU if they want to ban everything I do for fun. ie - shooting sports

100%, like i said i am jealous of the A5. I love anything browning, and still kick myself for not buying a 9mm Hi-power when they were licenceable here :(

Just hope you can get out and shoot the thing as intended with both the Virus and the lead ban.

Hi-power is a nice looking gun. Ever shoot one?

Shooting is now possible even with a level 5 lockdown as long as it is local. Lead ban is two years away so get stocking up on lead and enjoy that gun.

Yes but that was the plan from the word go,it was to do with a united Europe under either Nazism or Socialism.and is now developing into corporate globalism As both of these disgusting ideologies have had their grubby paws in this from the start.

    For those who want to know id suggest reading up on;

The Ventotene declaration A lovely little island in the Med off Naples which if you ever get the chance you should visit. But has given its namesake to a keystone EU document.

The Frankfurt school of economics. And no it is not a physical school building as one dopey Irish minister said to me when I asked him about his thoughts on it?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    On the right wing
The following characters; Walter Hallstein,Paul Henri Spaak,Hans Josef Globke, Robert Schuman,Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld in Germany and later of the Netherlands.
What the Charlemagne Prize is , and who it has been awarded to?

What is the Bilderberg group and its influence on the EU? And which Irish minister have attended, and what happened in Ireland afterwards?

    On the Left
Altiero Spinelli,Jean Monnet, José Manuel Durão Barroso, Angelica Merkel
    Baroness Catherine Ashton,Joaquin Almunia

When you have boned up on that little lot,and see what sort of influence they have had on all our lives...You can see maybe why Britan is leaving ....a bit late too.But did you know there were TWO other countries that never wanted to come into the EU Soviet fold and have stayed out and are doing quite well thanks very much?

Norway, in which the biggest party is now a eurosceptic one and they seem to want to put distance between themselves and the EU, and Iceland, which was in the process of joining and then said stuff it.

Bilderberg, oh yes, one of those organisations not for the consumption of the proles, a millionaires/billionaires boys club. Journalists who had the audacity to ask questions at the Swiss meeting were locked up, roadblocks, heavily armed police etc.

It never was a loose trading block to start with, it’s initial inception was to bundle the West German and French coal and steel industry under a joint authority essentially preventing a sneaky arms race and military build up leading to another war between the two like there had been three times in less than a century.

The EEC came a good bit after that and after the round of reciprocal currency devaluations in the 1980’s between Western European countries the idea of a monetary union slowly but surely started to gain traction to prevent another catastrophic inflation spiral as well.

No, never shot one but like many Browning products, they have a great reputation.

A design started by Browning himself and brought to production by the wizard’s apprentice, Dieudonne Saive, who designed the double stack magazine. Saive had taken over from Browning at FN after Browning’s death at the Liege plant in 1926. Saive himself was responsible for improvements to the Browning M1919, .50 cal machine gun and so on. In his own right his best known designs are probably the FAL and FN GPMG (MAG).

I’ve had the pleasure of shooting one on a few occasions at a range. It’s a bit like the A5 really, a bit dated by now with it’s all metal construction but it’s the grandfather of all high capacity 9mm pistols and just about every country outside the old Warsaw Pact has used them in either military or law enforcement roles at some stage.

Sorry, please don't call me deluded because my opinion differs from the accepted official one, i didn't insult you. Exactly the same thing was said when Ireland left the British empire/commonwealth. We left that to regain our soverignty, then handed it to the unholy alliance of France and Germany, the only two countries that actually count in the eussr.

How did we manage when we had our sovereignty? Our biggest export was our youth and the country was a basket case. The EU is far from perfect but we would be in a worse position if we were not in it. We have immigration now and are relatively well off compared to a lot of countries.

Do you think that if we weren't in the EU we would have free access to firearms? History shows that it's highly unlikely.

We are doing well because we are a tax haven for big American countries, the government helping Apple to dodge billions in taxes is one example we all know about. The EU is not happy with that situation and will put a stop to it probably in the not too distant future. Where will these companies head to next ?

The country a basket case ? I wander around town and see tent encampments in parks and on footpaths, people living in cardboard in doorways, i see endless young people abusing drugs, some utopia. my father had few qualifications and an average job and was able to buy a house, i did both apprenticeship and degree and i cannot afford the rent in dublin let alone to buy somewhere.

See the EU were caught breaking the rules with the lead ban vote ? Reform ? They don't want reform, they want overarching power and will not be shy in grabbing it, the ends justify the means.

That's a good one!! Gave me a good chuckle that!
A perusal of the various EU directives, and future EU directive plans,as well as allowing individual countries to gold plate and make it more stringent than the EU directive might shatter that delusion.
Our laws were perfectly adequate in the 1925 act.

Bit of a shocker...It was actually conceived in the 3rd Reich.Along with a Euro currency. Those people I mentioned in a previous post are all EX Nazis who got into power in post war Germany and France and started this trading bloc idea. What Hitler couldn't conquer militarily, Germany has done economically in the last 70 years by trade and economics. They have played a long term game this time along with their Leftist buddies,so much so that we are now living in a Socialist/Fascist "China lite" society, and we don even recognise this fact in the wEstern countries.
The East bloc ers do however know Communism and Socialism and Fascism when they see it.after living under both the Nazi and Soviet boot for 60 years they are experts on its joys. So no wonder they are acting all Bolshie at any given moment.

Yes, things were not that bad here up until the wildmen of the north started their lunacy in '69. The temporary custody order, which did sfa, was to set the tone for years. Now we have the Drugs gangs running amok.

I've no direct experience with the gun however a shooting buddy of Dad's has one. Never seen him having an issue with it over the years.

If I understand what he's saying in the vid section, its ballsy of you to buy it as a hunting gun considering we are on the verge of a lead shot ban.

I enquired into exactly that scenario. There’s companies in England that’ll fit it with a steel shot capable choke as long as the barrel is in good order. Of the top of my head around £300 including proofing.

I wonder if the Japanese made barrels are steel proof ? A barrel couldn't be that expensive ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Mech1

From my reading of it its steel proof.

Hastings barrels in France make replacement barrels for The Browning A5.

Verney-Carron as far as I know.

Harder and harder to find and a snoop around e-bay has them around $500.

The Hastings one or getting the modification done would be the way to go. The first option is brand new and the second will be proofed, I’d take that over a barrel with unknown provenance any day given that the money spent will be very similar.
