Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We have used the Adobe Digital on a laptop for years, for someone with AMD. PC means you dont have to hold anything in hands, instead of swiping to get next page you tap the right arrow. You can get an even bigger font by adjusting your windows settings, so that all fonts and icons are larger. it might also be worthwhile increasing the cursor size.

Yep, I'm much more comfortable with my PC, and very familiar with it. Been working on it for many years. Thanks. I don't like using the hand hand products, I find them inconvenient.

    https://www.librariesireland.ie/elibrary

This might help some. Pick your locality, enter your number and you should be in your account then.

I've tried this but must be missing something!

When I click my county and then the Online Newspapers link it opens Pressreader and I can pick say the Irish Times.. BUT I can't get any further than the front page without a logon prompt

Tried setting up an account with the same email address as the library but no joy - still asks me to pay.

    Any ideas?

The majority of the newspapers are no longer available for free, due , I presume, to cutbacks by LibrariesIreland. This occurred a couple of months ago. Cost saving I presume. I still use the service as I can indulge my interest in motoring magazines which are freely available under the UK magazine section.

Sadly, looks like the Irish Mirror is the only Irish newspaper left, bar the Sligo Weekender :)

I'd hope most people know to open (non-subscriber) Irish Times articles from the IT website in private windows to get around the 10-per-week block?

Anyone else get an email today to say that magazines and comics will no longer be available on RBDigital?

Ya, they have moved to Libby. Info on it here https://www.overdrive.com/ZINIO-transition-preview
Seems to be more magazines available through it than previously.

You cant sign up to it with a Fingal library card yet though.

Dunlaoghaire comes up for Ireland on Libby. You can choose that one as all the libraries are linked now

Just tried that with Dunlaoghaire and then put in my library card and pin.
    Didnt work.
It just said not a valid Dun Laoghaire-rathdown library card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,897 ✭✭✭megaten

I think Dun laoghaire have their own subscription to overdrive that predates the LGMA subscription the other libraries use.

Thanks guys, I guess I just have to wait for Fingal to sort it out then.

The email I got from Wexford library says changeover is at end of the month. So probably just need to wait until then

Yeah my library not on Libby yet either!

I tried to log in on Libby and it didn't accept my Louth county library reg details either

Any way of signing up for Libby? I was able to get a temp Dublin City Library number and pin for borrowbox, but it doesn't work for Libby and says you have to go into the library to sign up - which I presume is not possible.

I find it crazy that there is a limited amount of audio books and ebooks to use online. It's a digital file! Completely backwards. Some of them say they are booked out until next year!

I wonder is it something to do with usage rights for the amount paid - if they made it unlimited, it could have a bigger impact on sales of the actual content?

Libraries have to buy their books - they buy the license for a finite number of e books, the same as they would buy a finite number of hard copies of the book.

I have been unable to sign in with my account for Dublin City Library too - guess it will be the end of the month!

Forgive my ignorance, what is Libby! Do I need it? And is it used in Clondalkin or Tallaght Libraries?

It’s an app that lets you read magazines on a tablet device (or mobile) for free with your library card.

Is that the library you are with physically?

    no.

I signed up for a temporary number on libraries Ireland years back and that works.

Well otherwise publishers would basically be giving them away from free. Piracy is fairly easy as it is, they need to protect whatever of the market they have left.

Is Bloomberg businessweek on Libby can someone check out of curiosity?

Got an email from the library, Libby was due to go live today but there's some issues they are working on

I emailed my library this morning and the (extremely prompt) response was that the staff themselves are waiting for it to go live!

Site does not recognise my library card number and PIN at present.

Surely all of this should have been tested to death before now??

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,813 ✭✭✭One More Toy

Working for me now! My library wasn't listed so I just went to Dublin City library, put in my card number and pin and it worked

Preferred RB to this it doesn't seem user friendly or is that just me?

    Working for me now.
Fingal library is now showing up in it.
    Picked that.
    Put in library card no.
    Put in pin.
    Bobs yer uncle.

Still no joy for me - I don't have a library card, as I only joined post-lockdown. I have a user number and pin, which works on BorrowBox (to borrow eBooks), but it isn't recognised on Libby.

I'll contact Louth Co Library service and see what they advise.

On first glance, Libby doesn't look as user friendly as RB.

Totally agree on the user friendly front, much preferred RB but will make do

It is appalling on a desktop and awful on a tablet. What design company thought it a good idea not to have a clear home button as an anchor for the whole experience?

Registered with the Libby app this morning, all worked ok with a Cork City library card. Now to figure out how to add the same magazines as I had in the old RBDigitial app, too bad to hear the UI isn't great but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,813 ✭✭✭One More Toy

UI is the absolute worst I've ever seen

I was happy that it's not as difficult as PressReader. I like the "read the article" feature .

    Hey all,

I'm on a Fingal card, log in and the comic selection is very poor. Noting really. Is the selection better for areas? it is just a Fingal thing? Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,941 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

How do I get my pin number? I don't remember having to use that for the old app

  • Registered Users Posts: 88 ✭✭Nua

@ ShaneU - pin should be last 4 no.s of your library card number (that's how it worked with Press Reader anyhow)

Its either the last 4 numbers of your card or the last 4 numbers of your phone number.

It usually is that though unless they ask you if you want a different pin when you are getting your card.
I was asked did I want my own pin, and she said the default was last 4 digits of phone number or of library card number. I said just stick to the default, easier to remember.
I think the poster should try both of those numbers and if they dont work contact the library.

Ah, no. I know it. Just that it's neither the last 4 digits of my phone number, nor the last 4 of my card number.

just installed Libby app on ipad - ui seems fine to me, so possibly the app has been updated since last year.

there's a far greater choice of magazines then with the previous RB digital app too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,813 ✭✭✭One More Toy

Tried to download borrow box, entered my details and it accepted them. Says my membership has expired. Yet my details work fine on Libby and pressreader

    Anyone have similar happen?

  • For goodness sake this must be changed. I used to work in the library service and was dubious about this practice which was brought in when at least half the clientele never went near a computer. We had sone discussions about it.
