Just a heads up for people on how I got this to work.

    1. Signed up for one month in Ireland. (Irish KBC Debit Mastercard)
    2. Cancelled subscription the next day.
    3. After subscription completely expired (30 days) and I had the "Restart membership" option. I went to Netflix on my phone with VPN activated for Turkey and restarted membership.

    Seems to have worked fine.

Note: I didn't change my payment method at any point. It asked me for a phone number upon restart, but it accepted my IE number.

Ill give it a bash. Want UHD but Irish prices are crazy

So to give everyone an update, I have just renewed my netflix today with my curve card and it worked fine!

I changed my billing details while I was still active then cancelled, renewed today using holavpn and it worked.

It asked about my phone number which I left the same but got an email asking to verify it, should I verify it or ignore it? I don't know why it is asking me to verify it again when I haven't even changed it after verifying it last month.

Anyone any idea how to get around this? Tried Curve card, with Revolut and PTSB set as the funding card, same error.

I cancelled 30 days ago with Curve set as the payment type, and got the option to restart today.

did you inform your bank you are going away to turkey so they unlock the card
ptsb card caught me out in london a few years ago and they said they need informing of travel

I didn’t, but I did also try to use Revolut with the location security check ‘OFF’, and I’m getting the same thing:

excuse my ignorance. what do you mean revolut on curve?

I have my payment set to paypal. Should I change to Revolut?

Fair play. I couldn’t figure it out, and with the kids nagging me, I just bit the bullet and re-subscribed on the Irish site. The only thing I can think is different is I was using Windscribe VPN on iOS, i see a good few mentions of Hola and obviously Umlimited worked for you too. I’ll give it another go after Christmas and see how I go with one of them.

Do you use Curve to pay for the Irish month first and just leave it as is when renewing then with the Turkey site?

As in, sign up on Netflix Ireland and pay for your first month on the Irish site, using Curve.

Then cancel, and renew your second month on the Turkish site with VPN, using same stored Curve card?

ok, it would be also good to know if you renewed from the same device as when you signed up for the first time, same browser, with or without clearing cache/cookies?

    Hi

I could be wrong but I don't think netflix turkey accepts PayPal so you need to be on card payment otherwise when you turn on the vpn and renew it will. Look. For. New payment method.

I signed in without using a VPN (I'm already on Turkish one) and changed mine from standard to 4k and it worked fine. Wonder if I could change it to Curve without issue.

  • Registered Users Posts: 62 ✭✭keane16

Is there a way around them looking for a Turkish mobile number to verify account? They had the wrong card for payment and I switched it to curve when reactivating but then looks to verify.

No you can’t dodge the phone number verification
Phone numbers should be confirmed and payment info should be changed when you are on the Irish subscription really

    Though so, Thanks.

I will have to reactivate for another month on my Irish account and make sure I have the curve card as my only card and phone number verified.

Do you need to use a VPN while watching Netflix, or just during the sign up process?

They're raising prices because Irish people in general are pretty lazy when it comes to doing any research or putting a bit of effort into how they can save money on so many products and services. I've lost count of the amount of people I've flagged the Netflix TRY savings and nobody is interested

And me too but glad people don't listen, us bargain hunters aren't worth loosing sleep over for Netflix.

Now they have disney plus as rivals and they are cheaper, it really surprises me how netflix can raise their prices!? I don't think they get competition, they will just lose more subscribers than gain.

Paying 17.99 for netflix is madness to me.
Disney plus isn't comparable really it's mostly kids stuff.

You’d think anyway, but looking through some of the replies to Adrian Weckler’s tweet about these price rises, I’m not so sure

Interesting points re prime and Disney. I never use prime and Disney plus was grand for a year but it won't be renewed.

I suggested at launch that Disney month sub every few months is more than enough unless children in the house. Personally I'd seen all Marvel & Star Wars in cinema. Prime is worth it to me (until Brexit anyway) because of the amount of goods I buy for my business.

I have a whole selection of streaming sites. Apple Plus, Disney Plus, Netflix, Prime, Hulu, HBO Max, Showtime Now TV etc. All together would still cost less than my old Sky Q sub but I swap sites each month or so. Apple plus I had for 2 months so far since January. I've watched everything I wanted & it cost me 10 euro. There is some fantastic TV out there. I think we need to get away from thinking that we need each channel all the time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,512 ✭✭✭Wheety

I have Netflix, Prime and Disney+. I don't pay for Disney as myself and my brother have a reciprocal deal where I pay for Prime and he can access it.

But I don't pay for any terrestrial/satellite tv. I receive the Irish and UK FTA channels and that's enough for me with the subs. I wouldn't also pay for tv.

I tried to pay in Argentina currency using holavpn and used my curve card same as I did with netflix and said that payment card isn't from argentina so I couldn't do it. If someone knows a way then that would be awesome.

Plus before someone mentions can be shared with family, i don't have any one in my family that wants to share an account with me plus don't trust doing it with strangers to form a family. As I couldn't find a way, I just pay the £5.99 price that is set in the UK, I don't mind paying it. But argentinas pricing works out at like £4 or just under, can't quite remember.

Before it was available in Ireland I’m sure I paid via Google pay to get around the country block on the card. Might work. I do this with DAZN to get around needing a german card.

2nd month trying to move to cheaper country. Last month revolut declined. Updated and paid for new month with curve. Used vpn today can see Turkish prices but payment declined again this month. Is rope tightening on the loophole for this to work??

That’s probably to do with the vpn

It lets me go through until the final payment confirmation page, where it then says the payment method is invalid. I've tried Hola and NordVPN. Would you recommend any other one?

Have you set the payment info and phone number up on the Irish account before trying to move so all you are doing is restarting your membership ?

Yep, my payment is currently working on the Argentinian Netflix so I don't know why it should be different with the Turkish

Nord VPN aren't great and generally for websites like netflix just use the US version

I got the Turkish prices but both my Revolut and my KBC card were rejected. Also tried Revolut back with an Irish account and that was rejected too. I have a Curve card but I'm locked out of the app at the moment for some reason.

I've been waiting 24hrs or so before trying each time, clearing cookies and cache each time too

    perhaps a different VPN ?

Cheers, ya I figured that so taking a break for a while until I see if I can access the curve card again. Using incognito mode each time so think I'm covered there.
