There is a meet-up arranged for the Manchester!

See here. There isn't one arranged yet for the London show but no doubt there will be! Tribesman, you should go it alone if you have to! I went to see them in lots of places on my own... sometimes there's no better way!!

Just booked my flights. I'll get on a hostel for Berlin soon enough (any recommendations?).

For a while there, I though Springsteen was replacing Pearl Jam as the band/artist I was madly obsessive over. Since these concerts have been announced it's been nothing but PJ. It's good to be back :D:p

Anyone need a copy of the Pearl Jam Limited edition poster book? the orange one? it's signed and numbered by Ames brothers and Brad Klausen and has the three art prints that came with it. It's pricey but it's gorgeous and way better than the ordinary green one...it's got cool little notes on the posters from Eddie and the rest of the band on all their posters since 95 and has 30 pages of sketches and mylar overlays at the back showing you how the posters are made..PM me if you're interested..
    0155.jpg

    from Ames bros:

"Pearl Jam vs. Ames Bros: 13 Years of Tour Posters", - a chronology of Pearl Jam's celebrated concert posters spanning 1995-2007. The book includes over 200 poster art images from renowned artists Ames Bros and Brad Klausen. A limited edition, signed and numbered, copy of the poster book.

Opening with a written forward by Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament and introduction by the Ames Bros, the 264-page hard cover book features 229 posters designed by Ames Bros and Pearl Jam artist Brad Klausen. "Pearl Jam vs. Ames Bros" features over 80 comments on individual posters from all five members of Pearl Jam and running commentary from the poster designers -- offering insight into the inspiration, concepts and process of poster creation.

Featured interviews in "Pearl Jam vs Ames Bros" include: brothers Jeff and Barry Ament discussing their upbringing in Montana, early artistic collaborations and their working relationship; Ames Bros' Coby Schultz and Barry Ament recounting their day to day life at Ames Bros, the process and inspiration behind the posters and early history preceding Ames Bros; and an interview between Joe Barela of Seribellum Press and Coby Schultz.

The entire book was meticulously designed by Ames Bros and edited by Jacob McMurray, Senior Curator of the Experience Music Project (EMP) in Seattle, WA.

The special, limited edition "Pearl Jam vs Ames Bros" includes: a Certificate of Authenticity page signed and numbered by Barry Ament, Coby Schultz and Brad Klausen; 32 bonus pages featuring 250+ sketches, notes and original poster art taken from the sketchbooks of the artists; eight special "scientific" mylar overlays offering an insight into the printing process behind two featured poster - all wrapped in a special brilliant orange cover. Also included is a custom slipcase of the same material with debossed cover art.

Limited Edition of "13 Years of Tour Posters." Signed and numbered limited to 2,600 copies.

Amazing band so they are. Got into them just in time to see their last concert in Ireland and I was blown away by their performance. I'm a bit annoyed no Irish dates have been announced in the recent tour of Europe to be honest though. I would love to see them play here again soon.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 6,817 ✭✭✭jenizzle

This small tour is only a bit of a warm up before the new album is released. Don't panic yet. And also, be thankful, they chose 4 places in Europe, they're only playing one in the US and one in Canada. I suspect a full scale European tour will be announced late '09 or early '10.

Tell me about it. For the last concert in Ireland we lined up at 6 int he morning and only about ten people got tickets it sold out so quickly. There were tears a plenty from the people who arrived at 8/9 let me tell you...and the ten club wasn't any better!

Got tix this morning for the Manchester show in August - the London show appeared to sell out quite quickly :( Anyway, fourth concert coming up... can't wait!)

    Anyone else travelling?

As for albums to listen to... try to get some of the live bootlegs from 2000 and 2003 tours - there are very few poor shows out of over 140!!! The live stuff has way more energy than the studio versions IMHO... My favs like RVM, Alive, SOLAT have gotten better with age (and practice!)

Got me 3 standing tix for the show in london this august, got on right on the button at 9am and got them then a friend who also tried to get them at 9 was left wanting after about 20 mins. checked back half hour later and you cant even get 1 ticket any where according to the ticketmaster website. also another friend is part of the 10c club and got 2 pre-sale for london so 5 of us all heading over now. chuffed its been a while since i've seen them brisbane in 2006 so will be almost 3 years since the last time.

there's a leak..apparently the new record is called 'the lowdown'

dunno why i believe it..nobody else seems to but they didnt believe the avacado was the cover of the last one and look what we got!

doesnt sound like an optimistic record but Pjs album titles rarely reflect their content..Vitalogy excluded of course..

    And Vs. and Binaural :D:p

Where'd you hear this leak? I don't really invest much stock in rumours about album/song names. It doesn't really matter too much what the album is called, as long as the songs are good...unless the album is called "Pearl Jam fans are pr*cks" or something. That seems unlikely though :p

wish i had money to go to one of these shows :(
looks like im going to have to keep my fingers crossed for a dublin show. i wish they would play cork or something. kasabian is playing cork!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 6,817 ✭✭✭jenizzle

They won't be adding more dates to this leg of the tour - you'll have to wait for the next tour announcement.

    And Kasabian are useless :P

Is Berlin sold out yeah? We're going to London for sure, and hopefully Manchester, and Berlin if the economy turns around and I get a summer job. Cant wait, only seen them the once in Dublin in 06, fanatastic show, should be a great summer

i saw kasabian/glasvegas/muse last summer at marlay park. thought they were brilliant in my opinion. to each their own though, lol.

i think pearl jam needs to change the ten club ticket thing. just because someone signed up for a club 18 years ago doesnt make them bigger fans than people who didnt. i think it should just be random like every other concert. i understand they want to give back to their biggest fans. but im a big fan without being a member of the club. it might be different here, but in america, the same ****ers get good tix everytime. id rather be in the back with the regular people anyway, lol. thats my rant for the day.

The seniority doesn't apply in Europe, except the odd time they offer seated options, so it's nothing for us to worry about much. I like being in 10c so that I have a second chance to get tickets, and don't have to rely on TM to get them. And while it's fine being back with the "regular people", there is nothing more magical than being front row at a PJ show - it's something every fan should get to experience! I got to do that in '06 in Dublin which was my first and by far the best show I have been to.

PistolPete - I think tickets.de is their version of TM. Plus it's listed on the PJ home page as an official place to get tickets, I wouldn't worry about it at all!

too bad ill never get a chance for front row tix :( was in the front row for 2 travis shows though, and it totally makes the concert. it made me realize its not even worth going anymore unless i know i can be close. its almost like your there playing with the band. i wish bands played at smaller venues more often. it makes it a much more intimate experience. id rather have one small show then ten large ones where im a 1/4 mile away, lol

If you have GA, then you'll always have a chance at front row... as long as you start queuing at 5 in the morning!

Between getting tickets for the 3 gigs (Berlin, Manc, London) and the "Christmas" single, a Pearl Jam fire has been lit under me. The addiction has returned.

Incidentally, the John Doe cover with Corin Tucker on the Christmas single is amazing. Eddie's voice goes really well with female singers, as anyone who's heard his cover of Helpless should know and understand.

The hunger strike, they do as an easter egg on Live at The Garden is awesome, hard sun too. Have them singing a rancid version of Fortunate Son and Free World though, spine tingling bad!

Haha... and to think there may be a SG reunion?! *shudders*

Incidently, there is a version of Hunger Strike with Cornell singing with Chester Bennington and it's pretty nifty. The best of all the versions I've heard anyway!

was a huge PJ fan back in the days of Ten but the later albums never really did it for me. That said Pearl Jam live in Millstreet was best gig I've ever been to, closely followed by Audioslave in the point (hmmm ok its a tie).

Any Ten fans out there should also check out soundgarden's album Superunknown also the band Live's album Throwing Copper - both on a par with ten. All from same era Seattle Grunge. Great stuff.

Both great bands but on a par with Ten? nah...Superunknown is brilliant though.

    The new Pearl Jam album

I'm sat in a PR's hotel room at The Edgewater listening to the new Pearl Jam record - a release form I've just signed means that I can't tell you the song titles, while it doesn't even have a name yet. Yet what I can tell you, it's that it's ever, ever so punchy. Eddies vocals sound more honeyed than raspy and there's a ballad stuck right in the middle that's just him and a guitar, but is absolutely drenched in strings. There's hardly any guitar leads either - personally I'm a fan of that anti-alt-rock thing* and I'd like to see them bust some more of that stuff out. But as collections of garage-y rock go, it's not like you miss them...

( *What I mean by that, is that I never cared much about all the accusations that Pearl Jam were corporate cock rock - I always liked them because they were corporate cock rock (not that a band who've spent all but two of their years trying to sabotage their status as one of the biggest rock bands on the face of the planet could be described thus anymore). Just as some of my favourite music is righteous indie rock - Fugazi, Beat Happening, Bikini Kill - some of my favourite music - AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine, Guns 'N Roses - is corporate cock rock. It's a genre I most definitely enjoy...)

Y'know, it's hard to make sense of records when you've only heard them once, and the view from the hotel window (sea, seabirds, boats and far off mountains) is kinda distracting - I wonder what it'll sound like on a wet, ****ty morning in east London? But while I'd like to hear it again - aye, first impressions are promising.
