Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sorry I din't know that app was illegal.

I'm off now to the station to turn myself in. :)

Anything that facilitates the distribution of copyrighted material without the permission of the owner is illegal. but it's OK, I removed the name of the app so we'll call off the law. :)

I went to see La La Land this evening and I loved it!
(I did not love the two old codgers who started a full blown conversation 3 minutes before the end, though. :/ )

A coloured person wins the first oscar. Although he was playing a black person so it doesn't really count as equality.

Now I'm not watching the Oscars so this may be out of context, but he's hardly gonna play a white person since he's black.

One of the dullest oscars in history becomes one of the most unforgettable in history in a split second. Well, noting like a good unexpected twist at the end.

To be fair, wasn't really his fault and a huge pressure moment to realise something was wrong. Millions of eyes on you and you're holding the wrong envelope. What would anybody do in this situation?

Just one of the funniest things ever. Oh jaysus.

An aside, didn't Ruth Negga look amazing and to not win along side Meryl Streep.....wow. You go girl.

Actually it was Faye Dunnaway who read out what was on the card. He opened the envelope, she took the card and read out 'LA LA land' ...

    Explanation from the BBC.

"It appears Warren Beatty didn't just have the wrong card, he was given the envelope for the entirely wrong category"...

He' off the hook, but whoever handed him the wrong envelope sounds like they belong in LA LA Land :-)

Looked like a fix to me just to garner more PR and media hype.
The La La land music was played immediately once he announced it.
I would have thought the orchestra / floor manager etc... would be aware of the winners just prior to allow setup etc...

Was listening to the guy from PWC who manages all the counting on radio this week. He hands the envelopes out personally.
Guess his career in PWC is over!

Faye Dunnaway read out 'LA LA Land' as was written on the card, but they had been handed the wrong card.

The lalaland lad saved the day. Plus Did Emma Stone know she had won at that stage?

    To be fair to Warren, when he opened the card and saw;

    Emma Stone
    La La Land

He hesitated for a moment as it was probably confusing as to why Stones' name was on the card,
And probably before it dawned on him that something was amiss, the lady next to him just said the movie title she saw on the card!

Chazelle should have drop kicked the conversion before they could go back on the decision.

It definitely wasn't his fault. He never said anything, just stayed quiet.

I only saw one envelope at any stage...the producer of La La Land grabs the card from Warren Beatty and shows it to the crowd...

My own suspicion is that Warren Beatty couldn't read what was on the card because he forgot his glasses and Faye Dunaway took a flyer, hoping she'd be right..

EDIT - Ive just seen the video again and for a split second, you CAN see a second envelope....apologies to Warren Beatty...in fairness, Faye Dunaway actually announced the wrong movie...

I thought a producer brought on the correct card and that is the one that was shown to audience. But this makes a lot more sense considering Emma stone has said she was holding her best actress card (the one they are saying they read from accidentally) the whole night.

BBC are saying there are spares of all the award cards, and that a spare 'Best Actress' envelope ended up in Beatty's hands. In fairness, it must have been confusing, which is why he played for time. It wasn't him who lost their nerve, in front of an entire industry sitting there & millions of viewers at home, glanced at the card and went with a movie title that was expected to sweep the boards.

I do think Faye just didn't cop the Emma stone part was wrong and she just saw la la land. I don't think she realised anything was wrong.

The TMO has ruined the modern Oscars game.

Here it is explained really well and PWC have issued apologies. Wrong card given out. Producer for Lala land even admits card he was holding on stage said Emma stone La la la land... what a mess up!!!

Anyone else think the la la land producer was a bit of a brat? Grabbing the envelope from Beatty, and then making a big show of being 'proud' to hand the award to his 'friends'. Then again, Twitter is saying that he acted with 'grace and dignity', so it could be just me

How was he a brat, when he ensured that his film didn't get the prize and the correct film did.

I thought he handled it very well.

    Should be fun.

Oh boy was it fun. Smartasses making sly remarks about their president, only to go and make one of the most, if not the monumental cock ups in showbiz history. Absolutely priceless.

I hope Trump picks it up and runs with it. They deserve it.

You do know that Trump was hardly mentioned during the night?

Don't see the link between an envelope mix up and criticism of Donald Trump either.

I think Beatty is blameless here.

He opened the envelope saw, Emma Stone and thought it was strange. Showed it to Faye Dunaway and she said La La Land.

He had to make a decision very quickly.

Whoever gave him the wrong envelope is the culprit.

Could be solved by having clear labels on the front and back of what it contains.

"Best Actress- No 1", "Best Actress No 2", clearly marked so that it's seen before it's opened would have prevented this.

When I turned on the show the first thing I saw was the host troll tweeting Trump.  Plus, a lot of it the rest was implied.  They talked about being inclusive and stuff.

Reports I read was that host slagged Trump a bit and one recipient stated he was an immigrant and there was also the absence of Iranian director in protest at travel ban. That was it.
