Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The USA is basically just a high tech version of pre-WWII Europe (especially Britain.) Europe changed towards more left of centre after WWII.

Seems *highly* unlikely that Europe and the US would ever disagree that violently.

No thats stupid. Two civilised societies with similar cultural values would lose a lot more than they'd gain from any war between them/ Both usa and europe are valuable partners to each other and don't see how anything could change that.

America is already anti-European in many respects.

    1) it's right wing is hostile to "socialist" Europe.
    2) it's left wing spends most of its time on anti-Eurocentricism or something called "white privilege" an ideology that ignores American power and privilege
    3) neo cons who are pro Israel and happy to see the ME and Europe burn or be de stabilised.

A Europe that wants to survive needs to be anti-American.

Europe needs to be wiser as opposed to confrontational like America. Without Europe nothing would prevent America from doing anything they wanted. They literally believe they are entitled to control the world.

There's a small little man named Leon with thick black frames on his glasses with wispy white hair and a bald head who wears trousers with braces up to his chest, a string vest and diamond patterned socks with slippers who runs a little dusty pawnshop piled full of crap across from the NYSE who loans money to everybody.

    OY!

The USA has been an enemy of Europe since 1917.

We could become enemies but not for the reasons put forward. If USA decided to build a wall between itself and Mexico a possibility of European intervention. The Spanish won't like to see language or ethical discrimination within the US.

Achill Head in Mayo is the nearest point in Europe to America

Nien. The Azores are only about 1900km from Newfoundland and 3000km from NY, almost half the distance from Achill to Newfie and a lot less than achill to NY.

As an aside you can get the the Azores via Stanstead for about €130 return with ryan air, only one flight in and out per week so it's a nice 7 day trip.

The USA could be enemies with anyone if they tried hard enough. Or not very hard at all.

Probably not likely but not unthinkable see extract from the daily mail, I know it refers to Britain but substititute EU?

American military plan for an attack to wipe out a major part of the British Army are today revealed for the first time.
In 1930, a mere nine years before the outbreak of World War Two, America drew up proposals specifically aimed at eliminating all British land forces in Canada and the North Atlantic, thus destroying Britain's trading ability and bringing the country to its knees.

Previously unparalleled troop movements were launched as an overture to an invasion of Canada, which was to include massive bombing raids on key industrial targets and the use of chemical weapons, the latter signed off at the highest level by none other than the legendary General Douglas MacArthur.

The plans, revealed in a Channel 5 documentary, were one of a number of military contingency plans drawn up against a number of potential enemies, including the Caribbean islands and China. There was even one to combat an internal uprising within the United States.
In the end there was no question of President Franklin D. Roosevelt subscribing to what was known as War Plan Red. Instead the two countries became the firmest of allies during WW2, an occasionally strained alliance that continues to this day.
Still, it is fascinating that there were enough people inside the American political and military establishment who thought that such a war was feasible.

While outside of America, both Churchill and Hitler also thought it a possibility during the 30s - a time of deep economic and political uncertainty.

The American empire is pretty much self financing.

With the removal of the gold standard, no....it isn't. It's being paid for by everyone else.

Ah a gold bug. That Internet ****e is going to rot brains. The US does benefit from being the reserve currency but it's still in control

America is a monopoly board for European finance houses. I'm fine with that. American bankers and industrialists don't really care a toss about the boundaries of a nation or the colour of the skin of those who are in the way of profit and control. The banking houses of Europe are no different.
    I wouldn't care either.

You throw words together but make no sense. What does America being a monopoly board for European finance houses mean? Do you actually really believe that Europe controls America?

    It doesn't.

There is a global financial class but New York dominates the financial world.
