Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My annual bid to try and entice Sligoians to see some live musical theatre.

This one promises not to disappoint. Tickets are selling fast and it's only on until Saturday (I'm a bit of a johnny-come-lately posting this so apologies).

Do you need any stuff to sell? If so, what sorta things would suit? Anything that could sell?

Already donated a bag of stuff - wish I could volunteer my time, but I'll be in for a brief visit in the afternoon - looking forward to it!

Where does the Italian society meet? I was asking about Italian classes before and there seemed to be none except the one in the Mercy, and I don't want to go to that one as I've heard the teacher isn't great.

Not sure I know much about the Italian society, I'm with the other crowd. They do have a FB page, search for Amicizia. Or else just come along tomorrow night, there will be plenty of them in the Yeats building at 8pm.

What is 5th on Teeling like for gigs anyone? Is it just the old Zanadoos/Equinox/Envy/Pure renamed? I wouldn't mind seeing some of the acts there but not if it gets a really young or rough crowd. (I am not old enough to remember Zanadoos by the way but I am old enough to remember being served sausage and chips in it)

I've been there a couple of times for gigs. Layout is a bit odd, asked for a whiskey sour and the bartender started making a combo of a sex on the beach with whiskey in ... So can't say much for the drinks, but its grand, fairly roomy. It's connected to Pure, you use the same bathrooms as the night club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭Truley

It's the same layout of the 'Front Lounge' that used to be connected to Envy. But the décor is much nicer, and the place has a much nicer feel to it than Pure etc. It's like it's own separate venue now, any time I was there I didn't notice the nightclub at all.

There are some free gigs on this weekend at the Bridge Street 'Micro arts festival'.
Friday 7th Glenn Cal at Fureys pub 8pm
Sat 8th Merlin Cummins 1pm and the Corner boys 2pm at Chapters

Was there on Sat night and I would agree with you Truley. I liked it there but it is hard to keep from thinking that Envy is just beside you and I was expecting a load of teenagers to pile through the door all night. Would like it better if there had been a few more people there though.

So it's Yeats Day on Thursday (13/06/13). Anyone joining in the festivities? Only for it's on a workday I might have wandered into the City Core for a look.

    Plus there'll be sausages.

No Crows are playing in the Abbey tonight at 8.30pm and it's FREE !!!! That should be a nice gig (hope the rain holds off).

Sounds lovely - but based on what's going on outside the window now, I wouldn't hold my breath unfortunately. What a great venue for a concert :)

It's fairly well sheltered where they set up Scarlet and sometimes they do put up an awning of some sort. Warm coat, brolly and snifter of rum and you'll be grand :)

Anyone heading to any of the Sligo Summer Festival gigs....or both? I prefer Friday evenings line up but might find myself at a loose end to wander in both nights.

What's that? Sligo Boards Beers you say? :D (If only they sold more than Heineken out the window of the Garavogue I might hear more music)

Sligo Spanish Society begin Spanish courses on Monday, October 14th, with a registration night next Monday, October 7th, from 7.30 to 9pm, in Sligo City Hotel. The only way to insure a place on our courses - which are generally very popular - is to register next Monday and pay the course fee. All welcome, young and old.

Plenty of music this weekend in the town with Sligo Live. Anyone hitting any gigs?

Hoping to get Midlake tonight and Pete Molinari in the Festival Club. Of course have to see Rackhouse Pilfer will be in The Garavogue tomorrow (Sat) at 3.30pm, always a winner with them lads. Sat and Sun nights are out for me though :( due to other engagements (OK I'm going knick-knocking).

For anyone not familiar with them, Sarah (Crummy) and Jessie (Whitehead) are playing on Sat too, Fureys @ 4pm I think, worth a look.

Sligo Flea Market with bells on this Christmas at The Model!

For our Christmas markets on Saturday November 23rd, December 14th and 21st, we're going to be TWICE the size, that means DOUBLE the stalls, and twice the choice! Want a one of a kind vintage dress for the office party? How about some vintage costume jewellery for the ladies in your life - or perhaps your fella collects vinyl! We've got your back!

We're going all festive, so as well as the usual favourites - vintage and preloved clothing, retro bric a brac, bohemian gifts and upcycled jewellery, our fabulous stallholders will be selling handcrafted Christmas decorations, artisan children's toys, and retro bakes that will take you back to the Christmas' of your own childhood!

Joining us in December will be the designers from The Mall Studio, selling a range of exclusive illustrations, suitable for that special Christmas gift.
After you've made that list (and checked it twice!), put your feet up at our dedicated 'Pamper Parlour', and get a retro updo! After all that, unwind in the reopened The Model Café with its selection of cakes, teas and coffee.

On Saturday March 29th, take a nostalgic trip back to the kitschy fifties at The Model for a very special screening of the cult movie Cry Baby.

Legendary trash director John Waters' creates a world of the leather-clad, hormone-driven “Drapes” and the evening gown-wearing, clean-cut “Squares” in 1950’s Baltimore, which falls into disarray when beautiful square Alison falls in love with the soulful and handsome drape Wade “Cry Baby” Walker. The fantastic 50’s soundtrack, the remarkable costumes and the general sense of John Waters’ anarchy makes this film an classic...not to mention a star-making turn from some young hooligan called Johnny Depp.

The audience is invited to help set the scene by dressing up in their coolest threads, paying homage to the 1950s or emulating the characters from the film. Leather jackets and hair gel recommended! Prizes will be presented to the best dressed chicks and fellas! For this special event, the Rock&Roll Tea Party Co will host a Pin-Up Pop-Up Salon and Frock Shop from 4pm on Saturday afternoon to give you gals retro makeovers for the evening! At the party there will be a vintage PHOTOBOOTH for you to capture those stylish moments.

This screening will be followed by an AFTER PARTY with local DJ Dilly Dream playing a range of rockabilly tunes from the era. Party goers can lounge at the POP UP COCKTAIL BAR, serving retro cocktails and sodas throughout the evening.

Doors will open at 7pm, with the screening beginning at 8pm. Tickets are €15 (€12 student or unwaged). Tickets can be purchased on the night or in advance at http://themodel.ie/film.

A percentage of proceeds from this screening will go towards The Donal Parsons Trust.

The Cairde Festival runs from the 6th - 13th July and should have some good gigs. Programme HERE

I'd recommend making your way out to Cummeen Strand (about 4k outside the town) on Saturday 12th to see The Blue Raincoats open air production of On Bailes Strand. It's free and it'll be something different. They done a production on top of Knocknarea last year which was fantastic. Hopefully the weather will be favourable (also it's at 1pm so you can still plan for the night).
