Thought it was worth posting this here.
Hello folks, here's soem gig info for Sligo/leitrim gigs by Poo Promotions

Alright then, here we go now, update number 2 of the year 2011 - bloody hell, must be things happening - and without any more bollocks - here's the gig news from Poo Promotions!!!!

First up is a gig at the TRADES CLUB SLIGO TOWN on SATURDAY FEB 12th - an all ages gig, doors at 6.30, ends at 10pm, no alcohol in building, 5 euros entry - POO'S 'FOUR FOR A FIVER' is proud to present an exciting night of music with two of Galways finest punk bands in the forms of STICK AROUND - tuneful pop punk with strong melodies and upbeat tempos. SWINE - Intense new hardcors punk band from the city of tribes. EXCUSES - (R)ageing alchopunx vent collective spleen in outburst of savage bile. I am waiting confirmation of a fourth band, but if that don't happen, then you have to suffer my death poems.

Next is March, waiting on things to happen here, but looking like mid month for a gig.

POO'S 'FOUR FOR A FIVER' are pleased to announce that on SUN 3rd APRIL at the TRADES CLUB SLIGO TOWN - an all ages gig, doors at 6pm, ends at 10pm, entry is 5 euros, no alchohol allowed in venue, all the way from Geordie land in the UK it's CRASHED OUT - straight up, no nonsense, good honest punk rock, these lads are here to make soem noise - wahey!!!! All the way from the land of smelly cheese and frog legs TAGADA JONES - very exciting French band, their live shows are the stuff of legends!!! HOOLIGAN - these Dublin punk rocknrollers are back for more after their rowdy rocking gig at the trades on Jan 22nd. EXCUSES will be opening the evenings proceedings with more distasteful songs and music.

POO'S 'FOUR FOR A FIVER' - SUN 29th MAY - special guests from the land of terror - CHOKING SUSAN from Detroit, Amerika's motorway city (I wonder how it compares to the UKs motorway city - birmingham - as immortalised in song 'motorway city' by the mighty warriors of freedom that are HAWKWIND, who were inspired by said city's spaghetti junction of motorway roads one day after getting lost in it for 4.5 hours - that is a true story, Dave Brock told my brother, who is a Hawklord and does illustrations for em, so there) - hard, gritty, sleazy, down and dirty punk rocknroll from this 4 piece, fronted by the enigmatic Susan.Support comes from Dublin's own sons of the motorway - HOOLIGAN - street chants for the disenchanted urchins of the celtic tiger. Plus EXCUSES - workshy dossers on out of control spiral of punk lunacy. If I don't get a fourth band - you know the consequences - more death poetry from my 'orrid grimoire of finality. This is an all ages gig, doors at 6pm, ends at 10pm, entry is 5 euro, no alcohol allowed on the premises.

June date to be sorted, then I probably won't be doing a July gig cos I have happening at the end of July -' POO'S LEITRIM PUNK ALLDAYER' on SUN 31st JULY starring punk legends,5 top 30 UK chart hits (and 5 times on top of the pops!), forever on tour it's U.K. SUBS
Full details to follow, times, ticket price etc, but support acts confirmed are - EXCUSES/SETTING OFF SIRENS/THE COMPLAINTS/THE CRACK PACK - more to be confirmed - watch this space for updates!!! 'POO'S LEITRIM PUNK ALLDAYER' will take place at McGIRLS BAR, BALLINAMORE, Co.LEITRIM, where they serve the finest pints in Leitrim - 'tis true!!!

Ok that's it for now. Some othe rgigs happening - 25 march Mullingar the Stables - HOOLIGAN/JP13/MAKESHIFT/EXCUSES
    17 June cork - GOOD DEAD ME/EXCUSES/HOOLIGAN

enjoy the gigs - cheers Jasper/Poo Promotions (Unlimited) please forward this message to anyone who you may think would be interested in live music gigs in Sligo, thanks

What looks to be a brilliant night of jazz on at Tobergal Lane this Thursday night.....David Lyttle, Torsten Goods, Andreas Varady and Euan Burton. Sure where else would you want to be going?! More info on linky below...

    http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=176833655682353

"Originally from Co. Armagh, David Lyttle's groups have featured top-tier globally-respected artists such as Greg Osby, Soweto Kinch, Andreas Oberg and Jean Toussaint. All About Jazz (USA) describes him as ‘a drummer of real talent’ and Jazzwise (GB) describes him as ‘a prolific composer’. Following ten tours in 2010, he received the best young jazz musician award from the Cork Jazz Festival.

David is also frequently talked about in the press for his mentoring of thirteen-year-old Slovakian guitarist Andreas Varady, who has lived in Ireland since 2007. Last year, co-leading with Lyttle, the young prodigy released his debut album ‘Questions’ to much acclaim. He also appeared on BBC and RTE radio and television, and guested with guitar heroes Louis Stewart, Andreas Oberg, Martin Taylor and Tommy Emmanuel. The Irish Times listed Andreas’ introduction to the music world as one of the best musical moments of 2010. Following this tour, he will be headlining at London’s Ronnie Scott’s with his own group, featuring David Lyttle and US bassist Michael Janisch.

Berlin’s Torsten Goods is a genuine star of EU jazz guitar. A generation above Andreas, he was a finalist in the Montreux and Monk Institute guitar competitions, and his early mentors included George Benson, Les Paul and Bireli Lagrene. He has gone on to record three CDs as a leader, and has worked with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Chris Potter, Till Brönner, Andreas Öberg and Reverend Run (Run DMC). Also a singer, Torsten’s set often includes jazz covers of songs by Queen and Van Morrison, who hails from the same county as Torsten’s mother.

On bass is Scotland’s finest, Euan Burton. Like Lyttle and Goods, he is one of the new crop of entrepreneurial European jazz musicians who make big things happen. He has toured with a diverse list of artists, from New York jazz icons Ari Hoenig and Jonathan Kreisberg, to Scottish folk stars Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham. "

The weekly gathering of musicians every Sunday in McGarrigles is top quality. Went there a couple of weeks ago and had a blast. What's the name of the collective, I'm not sure if they are a band but one of the guys is a guitarist in Túcan.

    Anyone going to Temple House?

  • Registered Users Posts: 446 ✭✭Scarlet42

yes, I'm really looking forward to it, bringing the two kids (3 and 5)camping for the weekend .. hope the weather is good .. its supposed to be great for kids .. and adults aswell!!

oh and might get the odd photo!

    Sean

  • Registered Users Posts: 446 ✭✭Scarlet42

we had a great time in templehouse .. the two kids loved it and will be talking about it for ages..the weather didn't hamper us too much .. took the tent down in the rain this morning, we where going to stay the whole day today but once we got everything packed we decided to head back home.

The turn out was pretty bad .. friday night was empty, i went in to see ASH and the tent was only half full .. alot of the bands had to sing to very small crowds. I guess the rain must have put people off.

Sat evening was ok .. still not packed, the Damien Dempsey gig was probably the most popular one .. and it was excellent ..we had the two kids right up at the stage .. both fell asleep! .. don't think it was the music but the busy day they had.

I can't see how they made any money on this over the weekend especially with the amount of staff there.

I havent seen this posted anywhere but thought it well deserves a mention. The festival has been on for a few days now but there is still plenty coming up with lots of music, theatre, and storytelling. Some of the events you have to pay for but a number of them are free:). It finishes on Sunday in the Peace Park with the Park Fest (a great free days entertainment for the family) which has been great over the last couple of years.

Lisa Hannigan (with John Smith) was on in the model last night, a really excellent gig. Well done to the organisers for putting on a good local event.

    I totally agree.

I've been to the Cirque de Legume, fantastically funny.
The Bear, also brilliant (nice sambos too).

And the boat race which was really well attended.

The Bear has an extra show on Thursday night as well and it's in the Trades Club on Castle Street.

Will also be heading along to the Park Fest on Sunday. It has been really good the past couple of years.
