The big diff today is we've never had so much choice in music and that's a good thing.

But some people seem to think there is not really a choice in music it has become similar to other songs.
Also there are the same songwriters behind a lot of mainstream pop stuff in particular.

    Max Martin:

    Or

Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald AKA Dr Luke:

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I love some music from 12th century France, 16th century England, and other stuff too. I like Katie Perry and Lady Gaga as well. I never understand why people complain about 'todays music'. We've never had so much choice. Go listen to Thomas Tallis (not the Vaughan Williams Fantasia version). Then listen to TGIF. Both pieces invoke a certain feeling. Depends what feeling you want.

I could watch Katie Perry bounce forever though.

"Music these days..." said every old fart ever. And in twenty years time the next batch of old farts will be saying "in my day it was better" about yer wan Grande or whoever. While tastes and genres change, at any one time going back over the last hundred years most popular music was throwaway, or second rate, or utterly bloody dire. Nostalgia prunes the very best of it and makes our memories better.

I'll just leave this here so......

And they specify pop music. Because that's what people are obviously talking about, not all music. Every time this topic comes up, the distinction has to be spelled out.

The old argument of "I know modern music is supposed to sound like **** to me as I get older...but it REALLY does sound like ****".
the mix of fluff to 'stuff that will be remembered in 20 years ' seems to be a lot higher than it was back in the 80s and 90s , but again I probably cant accurately measure it 'cos I'm old!

Also at least that pop music trend of "sample of guy saying "uh huh,uh huh" or "yeah" or whatever down a bad phone line' in pop songs that started in the late 90s seems to have died out.
