Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Got problems with charging the Hudl 2 that my daughter got for Christmas, it'll only properly charge when you turn it off :( Seems to be others affected too according to reports on forums, I've emailed Tesco so we'll see what the outcome is.

Aside from that its a nifty device and my daughter is delighted with it though the battery could last longer.

Btw Tesco Direct have an offer on atm for 33% off Hudl 2 accessories just enter TD-HFTP at check out.

Apparently Tesco are issuing a patch on the 5th of January to address the charging issue. I have to say I haven't noticed the issue then again I power it off and charge it overnight. Let's see what Monday brings!

Well just got my dispatched email from Tesco Direct, so doesn't seem to be that much of a backlog on sending orders out. Now the nervous wait to see if it arrives ok to Parcel Motel.

How long did it take to get to you from time of dispatch ?

8 days to my Parcel motel and that was December you might get it quicker then that hopefully as there were delays with PM in December.

I'm not at home so haven't been able to check but has anyone got the patch yet?
    Cheers

I don't think there is one currently. 10 GBP is the best one at the moment. I'm happy to wait.

Do you know from previous experience that Tesco do £20 codes? I'm happy to wait too, but only if I think it might be on the way :D

Just as an aside- is there anyway to use the Aldi €10 off €50 shop voucher, can you use it to buy a Tesco giftcard and then spend that as part of the transaction?

Read back in this thread. They do £20 vouchers.

I don't think you can mix and match GBP with EUR vouchers.

Grand, will hold off pulling the trigger till the 20 quid vouchers are back on

Got a reply from Tesco, they've confirmed the issue and have got an update planned:
The issue that you are experiencing is something that has been reported by a small number of users to ourselves, but we have managed to replicate the problem. Having done this we have developed a resolution for this issue and will be releasing the fix for this issue, as well as some other minor issues, in an update to the hudl2 software very soon.
    ...
We're hoping the update will go live within the next couple of weeks.

Guys is it possible to move apps to SD card I'm trying to but it won't allow ?my Samsung allows me to move some apps the hudl is supposed to have 16gb internal but only displays 9gb and I'm down to 5gb already ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

Didn't Google disable that in one of the recent releases of android. I'm not certain though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 629 ✭✭✭blinkey 101

Not to sure but i had the Samsung s4 a while ago and was able to move certain apps over onto the SD card.

so all we can use the SD card for is music and pictures ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,056 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

I think that's true of the current version of android not sure if the new version will allow it or not and even if Hudl will get that update.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

I just read its a problem on some new devices like the Xperia E3. But not on the higher end Experias I think because Sony have put an app on those to do it.

I don't have a device with that problem. Mine are all older devices.

Did anyone else get a message on the hudl to update battery as it may be out of date?? I dident get enough time to read it properly as I was reading something else it poped up and I kinda dismissed it by mistake .

Brilliant just updating now and I see one of the updates allows us to move apps over onto the sd card freeing up internal space :) woooo !!

Mind you the mirroring to Tv with Chromecast was there already so can't see why that was in the update ?

The charging issue is resolved, great news!

Well I was charging mine and green light came on at 98% so hmmm .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,504 ✭✭✭viking

To clarify, I meant the issue where charging wasn't working unless it was powered off/ restarted. Don't know about the 98% issue yet :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,056 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

Happy enough with the update, it seems to have fixed the battery charging issue and its nice that we can move the apps over to an sd card.
Also Modaco did an interview with the Tesco Hudl team, seems they are looking at Lolipop but haven't had enough time to see if it will improve the customer experience http://www.modaco.com/page/news/_/android/meeting-with-hudl-on-battery-charging-lollipop-and-more-r1439
Also Tesco's have released a keyboard case for the Hudl! http://www.tesco.com/direct/hudl2-bluetooth-keyboard-case/598-0516.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=598-0516

Apparently if you uninstall the chromecast app you can still cast the whole screen from the dropdown menu.

Any talk of the £109 price per chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,966 ✭✭✭Liamalone

Charging issue not fixed here, been sitting with screen off and charger plugged in for over an hour here and hasn't budged from 24% charge.

Picked this up for my daughter a couple of weeks ago when the 33% offer was on, its a pretty fine keyboard and stand.

Are people happy with their Hudl 2s? Was that charging issue sorted out? Thinking of buying one for my mother.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,966 ✭✭✭Liamalone

I've had one since release and I'm well happy with it, good screen, battery life good. I did have a charging issue where if I plugged the charger in whilst it was on it wouldn't charge - it just held whatever % charge it was on. That has now been fixed as of an update about two weeks ago.

    I would recommend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,967 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Interesting thanks, can others confirm the charging issue is fixed because it sounds like a great tablet when not affected by that...

Hi Folks, is there a Lollipop ROM for Hudl 2, that is recommended

Not sure about the update to Lollipop unless your root it.
Charging issue seems to be fixed I think it's a great little tablet screen is good quality it does run a bit hot over sustained use they enabled the movement of apps to an sd card which is great. You can install a 3rd party launcher like Google to de-Tesco it and stop most of the tesco apps from running on power on.
So I would still recommend it as a decent Andriod tablet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,319 ✭✭✭emo72

I have 2 of these and they have been updated to lollipop. Automatic updates pushed by tesco themselves. I'm not bothered to root, just put Google now launcher on it. Grand machines.

    Huh?

There's no lollipop rom for the hudl 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,966 ✭✭✭Liamalone

Definitely no Lollipop this end, I'm non root.

I run this thing at times from 100% battery til near flat and I have yet to see any issues, no heat either but then this is one sample - I have read about folk having issues. Now that the charging issue is fixed, for me that is, I have no problem with the Hudl2 - top piece of kit in my book. Get one, actually, get two lol
