So of all the new shows that have started since the Autumn what do people here think are likely to stay and be the first to be cancelled.

Now I have not watched many but so far I am impressed with what I have seen.

Blindspot is fun and I can at least see it going the season but I can see how it can be extended with
    Operation Daylight

Quantico i think will be a good one and will last.

Minority Report i have only seen an episode and while it was okay it does need to improve to last i think.

Limitless I am not suue about it seems a bit all over the place but I am willing to give it 10 episode (I know is a lot).

That is only new series i have seen I have still to see Code Black, Heroes Reborn, Blood & Oil. Not sure what I am missing.

So what as made the grade for you what is borderline and what do you dislike. Hope this is the right thread

Liking Blindspot, Quantico and The Player
Gave Rosewood benefit of the doubt but after 3 eps, I cant be bothered. Rosie is a headwrecker!

Limitless and Minority report tried to watch 2nd ep but switched off

Not sure about blood and oil, watchable but not in major rush to see, doesnt have the oooh must see straightaway vibe, but the English bar owners accent is wrecking my head so could be that

Seen 1 ep of code black, not feeling it thought it was going to be more interesting and possibly replace Greys for me, kinda getting bored of the most unluckiest hospital ever, but even perking any interest outta me!

Watched 3 eps of Grandfathered, but dont see where else it can go, funny but think it will be lucky for one season.
Liking life on pieces, my family looks kinda normal ish in comparison!

I liked it a lot but I'm not gutted, but I just do not understand ratings. According to Wiki it had 4.5 million viewers per episode last season. Then it gets cancelled for poor ratings?

I see other high profile and costly shows with the same or less figures and they're still going strong. I don't get it.

If you want to see how ridiculous the whole ratings thing is just look at Longmire. It had great numbers and was one of the most consistent performing shows on TV but was cancelled because the viewership skewed older. Like a lot of other great performing shows on the Network it was cancelled in favor of some cheap chap that appealed to a broader and younger audience. Netflix picked up Longmire and it's done brilliantly for them. Extant is a strange one as Amazon Prime were involved in it and I would think that depending on how well it did there they may bring it back.

It's also not just an American thing, Utopia on C4 has universal critical acclaim, good viewership and HBO developing a remake but after series 2 it was cancelled as C4 wanted to pursue shows aimed at a younger audience.

network tv is just ridiculous at the best of time, look no further that Person of Interest, im my opinion the best show currently on network tv, its beem running for 4 seasons, with its most recent 4th season drawing in 9+ million viewers, 2 million more than elementary, 3-5 million more than gotham, 5 million more than Agents of SHIELD, and yet all those shows got full season orders, and Person of Interest got a 13 episode order, and its looking like the 5 season will be its final season,

now i do enjoy all the other shows i listed, by POI is by and far the best of that bunch, it might be that the creators of the show think 5 seasons is a great run, and they feel theyve done as much as they can with compromising the quality of the show, and thatd be fair enough, and a great move, but all anyone understanding of it is, is that the network board are assholes,

but anyway, onto the new shows, minority report i could tell was a goner from the start, i watched the pilot, and just had no interest in the second, i really dunno why FOX are still making sci-fi shows, they just keep failing, blindspot has been a pretty good show, a nice mystery show, but it seems limited as to how far it can actually go, quantico is in the same boat, once they wrap the story after season 1, where do these shows go then, both will be renewed, of that id be fairly sure, as will limitless, which out of all the pilots i feel has the better built in longevity, its procedural and has the nice subtext of the drug going for it, along with bradley cooper popping in and out of the show, its still finding its feet, and need to get a better balance, but id say by mid season itll be running away nicely,

and even on top of that, most shows look to have returned pretty strong, Agent of SHIELD, Homeland and Gotham particularly,

I liked it ixoy. Its not going to win any awards but it had a few great twists in it I felt. It worth watching it, if you liked season 1.

Ah, balls! Dominion was really entertaining - and Season 2 was a big improvement on the first, much darker with a lot more bloodshed and morally ambiguous situations.

I figured it was coming but I'm disappointed.

Well they were on the verge of it but got a final 6-episode order. So it actually wraps up properly unlike 'Dominion' does (I assume) or 'Defiance' (haven't watched it). It gets the ending the creator always wanted, just getting there a good bit earlier.

Also SyFy didn't clear its slate for 'Continuum' - it's a Canadian production by Showcase. SyFy don't make it.

Well was Defiance not suppose to be the tie in between show and the MMO? If it was that show the game was woefully implemented and the show even worse so surprised it taken so long...

The Defiance game will continue to be supported and I thought the show had already been cancelled since the season 3 ending felt like a series finale.

Ah so it wraps up quite neatly? Am ambivalent about watching the third season so at least it seems it doesn't end on a cliff hanger.
How is the third season versus the first two?

    Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls Limited-Series Revival Set at Netflix
THIS JUST IN: We’re getting those final four words!
Sources confirm that Netflix has closed a deal with Warner Bros. for a limited-series revival of Gilmore Girls penned by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and exec producer Daniel Palladino.
Although negotiations with the cast are only now beginning, I’m told all of the major players — most notably Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson — are expected back for the continuation. Additionally, per multiple insiders, the revival will consist of four 90-minute episodes/mini-movies.
Reps for Warner Bros. and Netflix declined to comment for this story.
And I repeat: This is not a drill.

Emerald City Revived By NBC With Straight To Series Order. 10-episode first season.

NBC is heading back down the yellow brick road.

The network has uncancelled Emerald City after it was consigned to the cancellation scrapyard last year.

As a refresher, Emerald City is described as follows:

In the blink of a tornado’s eye, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog are transported to another world, one far removed from our own — a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands

Emerald City will go again during the 2015-16 season

    http://seriable.com/emerald-city-revived-by-nbc/

This has now become something I will watch.

Vincent D’Onofrio Cast As The Wizard In NBC’s ‘Emerald City’
The Wizard of Oz is the enigmatic leader of Emerald City. A man of science in a world of magic, he rules through inspiration, fear and a tenuous accord with the grand witches. D’Onofrio will star alongside Adria Arjona, who was previously cast as Dorothy. Cast also includes Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Lucas, Ana Ularu as Wicked Witch of the West, Gerran Howell(Jack), Jordan Loughran (Tip) and Mido Hamada (Eamonn).

NBC resurrected Emerald City, after passing on the project in January 2014, with a straight-to-series order last spring with new writer/executive producer David Schulner attached. Shaun Cassidy has been added as an exec producer. Tarsem Singh will direct, reuniting with D’Onofrio, whom he directed on 2000’s The Cell. Universal TV is the studio.

    Amazing Stories

Amazing Stories being revived at NBC with Hannibal boss.
A new version of Amazing Stories is in the works

The anthology series is now in development at NBC with Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller, EW has learned exclusively.

Fuller will executive produce and write a pilot script for the project – an hourlong weekly anthology series telling fantastic, strange and supernatural stories.

The 1985 original ran for two seasons and was created and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, who we’re hearing is not involved in the reboot. The series earned 12 Emmy nominations and received five awards.

Amazing Stories will be produced by Universal Television with Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank (Under the Dome, Extant) serving as executive producers along with Fuller.

    The Brink Canceled
HBO is changing its course on The Brink.

The premium-cable network has opted to cancel the Jack Black and Tim Robbins comedy after one season — despite renewing it in July.

"After evaluating our schedule and our programming needs, we unfortunately decided we cannot give The Brink the attention it deserves for a second season," said HBO in a statement. "We are proud of the first season and wish everyone involved in this show the very best."

The half-hour series, which bowed in late June alongside Dwayne Johnson's Ballers, was part of HBO's efforts to broaden its comedy brand.

Brink centered on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: Walter Larson, U.S. secretary of state (Robbins); Alex Talbot, a lowly Foreign Service officer (Black); and Zeke Tilson, an ace Navy fighter pilot (Pablo Schreiber). These three compromised souls had to pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War III.

The Kim and Roberto Benabib-created series, which was helmed by HBO go-to Jay Roach, generated mixed reviews, with a Metacritic score of just 52. (Already-renewed Ballers nabbed a 65.) Still, the premiere telecast drew a respectable 1.6 million viewers in its 10:30 p.m. slot, down from lead-in Ballers' 2.2 million viewer haul.

News of Brink's cancellation comes months after executive producer Jerry Weintraub, who was integral to selling the spec script to HBO, passed away.

    13 Reasons Why

Netflix Orders Selena Gomez’s Teen-Suicide Drama 13 Reasons Why to Series
Netflix has ordered the adaptation of Jay Asher's best-selling YA novel 13 Reasons Why (stylized as TH1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY because teens) as a 13-episode series, reports The Wrap. Actress and Voice adviser Selena Gomez will play Hannah Baker, the teenager at the center of the plot who commits suicide and leaves behind 13 tapes to send to various people that explain how they contributed to her death. She'll also serve as executive producer alongside her mother, Mandy Teefey, and producer Kristel Laiblin. The Tony Award– and Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright for Next to Normal Brian Yorkey has written the pilot and will also serve as an executive producer. Ride with Norman Reedus

AMC Orders Motorcycle Travel Series ‘Ride with Norman Reedus’
AMC has given a six-episode order to an unscripted series featuring “Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus exploring motorcycle culture around the country.

“Ride with Norman Reedus” hails from Left/Right Productions. Each hourlong episode will follow Reedus and a friend touring a different city via motorcycle and checking out bike shops, tattoo parlors, bars and restaurants frequented by chopper enthusiasts. Reedus’ companions will range from actors and artists to local bikers.

The series is targeted to air next year.

“There is nobody more passionate about motorcycles than Norman Reedus,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. “He is an avid rider and aficionado who is deeply immersed in motorcycle culture. There is also nobody more fun to hang out with. This show will bring those two elements together for a weekly ride into the incredible world of motorcycles and the people who live and breathe them.”

The series is one of a handful of unscripted programs on AMC’s schedule. The network last year scrapped plans to produce two unscripted projects that had received series orders. At the time the cabler said it would be selective in its approach to unscripted series while plowing more resources into its bread-and-butter scripted drama series.

    Van Helsing

Syfy Acquires Female ‘Van Helsing’ Series with Neil LaBute as Showrunner
Syfy has acquired a female take on “Van Helsing” from Nomadic Pictures, with Neil LaBute set as showrunner. The 13-episode, hourlong series reimagines the Dracula mythology with the resurrection of Vanessa Helsing, the next in line of a lineage of warriors who now must lead mankind against a world controlled by vampires.

Per Nomadic’s release, When Vanessa Helsing is resurrected five years in the future, she learns vampires have taken over the world and that she possesses unique power over them. She is humanity’s last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.

Production on the series will begin in January 2016 in Vancouver, BC, for an intended fall premiere. Dynamic Television will distribute the show internationally.

“Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules,” said Chad Oakes, co-chairman of Nomadic Pictures. “The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival. Mike and I are thrilled to team up once again with the talented Neil LaBute to deliver an amazing series.”

“Chad and I are excited to be working with Syfy and Chris Regina again to vamp up the vampire genre on this exciting new series,” added Mike Frislev, co-chairman of Nomadic Pictures.

“‘Van Helsing’ reimagines a classic story in a compelling new way, featuring a bold and complex heroine,” said Chris Regina, Senior Vice President, Program Strategy, Syfy. “This high octane acquired original series will be a terrific addition to our lineup next year.”

“I am extremely excited to be working with Syfy and Nomadic Pictures to create a unique, character-driven action series that will move the traditional vampire tropes into bold and unexpected new territories,” said LaBute. “This is a wonderful chance for us to forge great stories and unforgettable characters and throw them into a world where the stakes — both dramatic and personal — are tremendously high. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with Chad and Mike at Nomadic again and with Chris Regina at Syfy. The combination of all of us on this project together is going to be combustible. I hope we rip the doors off this genre week after week.”

“Van Helsing” is produced by Nomadic Pictures. Executive Producers are Oakes, Frislev, showrunner/writer LaBute, Simon Barry, Evan Tyler, Dave Brown and Daniel March. Nomadic Pictures will distribute the series within Canada, Fallout Asylum and Dynamic Television will distribute the series in the United States and Dynamic will distribute the series throughout the rest of the world.

A Greatest American Hero revival was in development at Fox last year, with Rodney Rothman (Undeclared) at the helm, but the project did not move forward.
