Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. What happened with Aries?

    After the match he
got up and walked out after taking two of Johnny Impact's finishes. Like took the pin, stood up, walked out of the ring as if they did nothing to him. Basically no-sold them.
    If it's a work ,it's dumb. If it's a shoot, he's a prick.

He has form for being a sulky prick as I recall.

It’s all a work they’re trying to get some controversy and play off on real beef ala McGregor Khabib.

I wonder if Eli Drake's opponent got the reaction they were expecting. Didn't seem to be the case

That PPV was an absolute mess. The Concrete Jungle Death Match was beyond stupid. I did really enjoy the World Title match but the Aries stuff afterwards felt so unnecessary and very 1990s.

Worked shoot most likely but with his attitude you can't as a fan 100% rule out that he went into business for himself.
Kinda clever in a lazy way.

If it's a work then it's pretty much the most disgraceful one I've ever seen. All pro wrestling really has now is the fan's willingness to suspend disbelief. What Aries did makes a mockery of that.

    It felt very Vince Russo..

You must not be watching wrestling very long if that is the most disgraceful work. Its not even near the worst
Wrestling publicly killed off that belief back in 1997 too and have pissed all over it with preposterous storylines many of which don't even involve shoot angles.

He was apparently third choice behind Joey Janela and Low Ki. They crapped all over him, which I thought was very funny and very New York especially as he's not even from NY. I enjoyed it and thought the talent did well reacting on the fly.

I would call it the most disgraceful because it makes everything up to it utterly redundant. The fights, the feuds.... we're willing to go along with it because we know what we're watching is essentially a soap peformed by athletes. I wouldn't expect an actor in a play to stop and essentially say "**** this I'm going home and **** you all who went to the bother of investing in this."

If this is a work that is exactly what they've done. Why the **** would I bother tuning in to watch after that? What's the point when they can't even maintain the effort of make believe? Where do you think they go from here if it's a work? Promise to fight each other for reals this time?

It was killed off long before 1997. Wrestling has always been stupid. There an old 1930/40's film with a James Cagney gangster type explaining how fake wrestling was.

It doesn't excuse how silly what Impact/Aries did do. It only took away from the finish and hurt the company who has been building its stock back up with the fans.

Homecoming PPV is tonight at the asylum in Nashville.

Really enjoyed Impact in the 12 months since I posted this thread.

It's a shame that they are moving to a TV channel in the US that is supposedly available in even less homes than Pop TV (the channel they're leaving).

  • Registered Users Posts: 242 ✭✭Ali Bomaye

Should be a decent PPV. Impact v Cage is a very interesting match. LAX v Lucha Brothers has the potential to be a belter. My enjoyment of Taya v Tessa will probably come down to how Gail Kim is used as the referee, probably setting up a Kim Tessa match.

Drake v Abyss in the Monster's Ball is the match I'm least interested in. Tommy Dreamer being a major part of the build hasn't helped, I could do without him on my TV in 2019. His promo giving out about skinny jean millenials was so bad.

Ultimate X should be a fun match. The build for Moose v Edwards has been so goofy, though I have enioyed all their in ring interactions, so looking foward to it. Also looking forward to seeing Jordynne Grace on the show.

I'd be fairly unsure predicting how a lot of these matches will go. And I'm wondering what roles others not booked in matches will play. Kross, the OGz and even Rosemary could all factor into things given they're all involved in the storylines of matches.

It's a pity that the brand has such a badly damaged reputation because it has been very enjoyable. Looks like things are only going to get more difficult for them this year.

Found out that Impact will be streaming on Twitch, might be a good way to get back into Impact, albeit a decade later.

Did they get a new bigger ring? The rope looks really high, especially with the women, but also there seems to be a lot of room for moving around.

Impact's parent company just bought the majority share in AXS TV so they should have secure TV home now to move onto.

I wonder will they still be shown on sky channel 192.

192 is the timeshare channel with the Fight Network slot isn't it?

I'm surprised Channel 5 allows it at the moment, particularly since it airs there in sync with the US broadcast ahead of being shown on 5 Star.

    Wonder what happened in AEW.

I'm watching clips of Impact throughout the year and have to say I'm enjoying Callihan's work. It's simple but effective.

My question to those still watching is it worth a full watch? I noticed NWA seemed to have plundered former Impact stars so I'm wondering how the Impact roster is currently fixed.

Maybe I'm listening at a poor volume but the crowd sounds dead. NWA audience make more noise and I assume the latter would be smaller.

It's worth a watch, Impact is usually a decent show. Bound For Glory this weekend was really good, one of the better recent US PPV's. The X Division ladder match and Cage/Callihan were great and Elgin/Marufuji was excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I see their next PPV is the appropriately titled Hard to Kill.

Next ones will probably then be Out For Justice and Under Siege

Really good first show of the new era on AXS, delighted to see Sami Callihan win the title. It's very much deserved, he's been great this year and is one of the best heels in the business for me. A Callihan/Blanchard has huge potential.

Was also cool to see Josh Alexander in a match with Marufuji, and Austin/Edwards was a good match too. And heel RVD is way better than the phone it in version we've gotten the last few months.

Any reason in particular why the crowd is so bad? They've been doing some strong stuff over the last two years but my god the absolute silence kills it.

A new World Champion will be crowned when Eddie Edwards, Ace Austin, Trey and a mystery opponent collide in a Four-Way Elimination Match. On a night shrouded in mystery, who will be revealed as the fourth competitor and who will leave Slammiversary with the vacant World Title around their waist?

    EC3?

    https://wrestlingnews.co/wwe-news/former-wwe-star-confirms-he-will-fight-on-july-18-the-same-day-as-impact-wrestlings-slammiversary-ppv/

Former WWE/IMPACT Wrestling star EC3 was on Facebook Live and was asked about being the mystery man in the IMPACT Slammiversary main event.

“July 18th”, EC3 said. “July 18th is a great day for a fight. I will fight July 18th.”

Gallows and Anderson have officially signed with Impact.

Interesting to see who else from the WWE releases show up at Slammiversary tonight

They also followed on from AJ and shoot on Heyman calling him a bull****ter.

It was Heyman who got them sacked as they weren't on the original list of releases and Heyman brought up their names to Vince as they were on big contracts.

Watching a bit of Impact lately and finding it a hard watch. I do enjoy Swinger as he's funny. But I dunno. Not exactly must see TV.

Half of me was gonna pay for the ppv tonight on FITE. But waste of money came to mind sadly.

Gallows nearly had a comedy slip walking to the ring that would have been hilarious if he had fallen.

Great to see the MCMG's back.

Those expected to turn up did.

    Didn't Chris Sabin retire?
It's not too long ago that Shelly was on NXT.

While I was watching I was thinking I didn't know what I expect. it's not like many of the names would be a big deal apart from Rusev and the Good Brothers.

Based off that show, I don't think they will keep many, if any, who tuned in for these surprises. Production values weren't great and the technical hitches from Don Callis' audio to the microphones for Heath's bit. This was their chance to lure in new viewers and in my opinion, they messed up.

Then the women's Battle Royal Rumble. If it wasn't for their partners Katie Forbes and Alicia Edwards wouldn't be there. Katie definitely shouldn't be in that ring. And women were getting eliminated and ignored, like former champion Su Lee/Susie.

As for the women's title match, it's another example of putting a WWE cast off over their own talent. Deonna was a jobber in both TNA and WWE. She's won her matches in Impact but that should be the start of her run. As has been said in the AEW thread, give the former WWE ones a match when they've earned it in the company.

I'm sure they did the Heath fighting for a job and Free Agent bit in WWE already.

I was surprised myself at the speed in which they gave Deonna the title. She hasn't done anything in either WWE or TNA to warrant it.

It just makes them look incredibly small time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,426 ✭✭✭montyrebel

so how long until Sabin injures himself again, personally i think he is a liability and should retire for good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,485 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

Heath on Impact already, guess he does have kids :p

I thought Sabin too had retired

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Looking it up, his last match was Jan 2019 but that was due to ACL tear. It was Shelley that retired. Guess it didn't stick

Not a bad vignette for EC3's return
