Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As a person who shops in all major stores I find Dunnes can be very good value if you know what you want.

For example, if you were to buy one of each of the weekly wonders and top it up to get to €50, you would only pay €40 if you have a voucher.

Problem is they don't have a decent web site, so you can't compare against other stores.

I find they lack own-brand ranges in a good number of products, compared to the likes of Tesco. Hence a full shop can get expensive there.

That is probably true in fairness although every time I do go into Dunnes these days (which is not too often with the nearest one being about 35km away from me) they seem to be making more progress in introducing their own cheaper shop brand alternative to the branded options.

For me in normal times (again at the moment due to my own geographical location) the real feather in the cap for Dunnes is the €10 off next €50+ spend voucher. If you are savvy about it and buying for a family you will save if using the €10 off and if buying products like milk, bread, sugar etc that are pretty much the same price everywhere anyway and avail of offers they have on.

For people who seem to insist on buying leading branded products only (myself excluded but I know them people are certainly out there) Dunnes as I can see often (not always of course) seem to be a tad cheaper on certain products than Tesco/ Supervalu. They seemed to have better and more longer run offers on the branded stuff too versus them in my experience.

Box is bigger than looks on picture.

Great present for someone, specially if they don't follow this thread!

Bought five, so only paid €40 after voucher.

Is it just me or were the Bistro Occasions ridiculously priced at €2.30 a packet?

The packaging probably cost twice as much as the crisps.... :pac:

They're gluten free so always a premium price, posh taytos.

Also the weekly bargains are a great way of reaching the coupon threshold seeing as alcohol is no longer included

Small heads up on the Andrex €8 for 16 Rolls Pack offer.

Was in Dunnes a while ago today and there’s a 2 for €8 offer on the KittenSoft ‘Adorably Soft’ 9 packs.

Works out at two extra rolls for the same price even though Andrex is on the Weekly Wonders thing.

You wonder why they bother. It's the same spin of the wheel every week: soft drinks, Kellogg's cereals, toilet roll and detergent. It may be different sizes but it's the same products week in, week out.

FMCG - fast moving consumer goods. Has to be one of the most boring industries ever. The majority of consumers are brand loyal but nevertheless the manufacturers/retailers spend huge money tempting us away with "bargains". Then jack the prices. When demand dips there is another sale and so the cycle continues. Its great if you have a separate freezer and storage as you can buy in bulk. To increase revenues they buy up another established brand to add to the stable. Then look to slash costs/change recipes etc. Very little innovation in the products as margins are so tight. Its all a volume game.

Best advice I can give today is don’t buy that kitchen roll , fior di carta, got it once before and couldn’t wait to finish it. It’s absorbency is brutal, it’s tears like crepe paper and the perforation between sheets is terrible, literally rips anywhere it wants.

They often have barley malt extract added as a flavoring, or are made in the same factory as as one that does have that added.

Does anyone know if you use a €10 off €40 do you get another back or does it depend on the day it’s used?

I know you do with the €10 off €50.

If you use it in one of the stores that run the €5 off €25 spend offer, you'd get a €5 off €25 voucher back. Otherwise, you get nothing back (unless you bump your spend up to €50).

  • Registered Users Posts: 672 ✭✭✭RevBlueJeans

In Tralee I have not seen the €10 off €40 or the €5 off €25.
I think these must be random offers at some stores.

If you use €10 off €50 Thursday to Saturday you get another €10 off €50 and a very short dated €5 off €20 which must be used Sunday to Wedensday. If you are spending €100 break the transaction up into two to get two €5 off €20.

Since alcohol is off the list it’s very hard to get the spend up.

Toilet Paper and Branded breakfast cereals are really bad value in Dunnes generally.

Never ever believe the yellow prices, they are often poor value.
