Folks, coming up on the 2 year anniversary of this thread. Where does time go to?? 26/04/19. And it's proven to be a great thread. So hats off to the OP, though I haven't seen them post much?

My mechanic in Laois has just informed me of a 2000 Opel Corsa, 1.0 12v with almost 12 months tax and 4 months NCT extension due to Covid. Father and then daughter have owned the car and she's just traded up to 13.
I'll be seeing it on Friday and, if I don't take it, I'll pass on pictures and more details. I doubt my insurer (Allianz) would allow it as a temp backup car for my own (06) but, failing that, a classic policy would cover it.
Only trouble is, with the lockdowns and WFH, we're all doing such little driving.

No pictures but 2 owner. The second owner of this car was an optician, the first her father. Very very honest car. Will try and get a picture.
Ps despite the body being galvanised on those, I believe, the underneath is not! So it's had some welding had to be done for its last NCT, I'm told. Owner is a v v proper lady, so she 'upgraded' to a 13. Typically frugal. Which we here all like.

The parents had two of them brand new. One was silver and second one I think was that exact colour. They were the 1.6 petrol do and big spec with alloys, air con, all round electric windows and mirrors etc.

Is anyone doing this in the real world? And if so is insurance an issue? Bearing in mind these cars are also the favourite of compo cheats and chancers.

Not just 02s and 00s here. There's 08s and 05s. Once the price is right and NCT.
I drive an 06 CRV and insurance is 490. Had to fight the b*stards for it as they were attempting to gouge €200 more.
Compo cheats perhaps, as they're cheap investments. But chancers? In what way, if it's NCT'd?
In my view, frugal is eco, frugal is sensible. It's the chancers driving financed cars that worry me. They shouldn't even be allowed to vote. Financially illiterate.

Axa and aib are currently giving good quotes on older cars. About 6 or 700 seems to be the norm. There's nearly always one or two insurers willing to offer decent quotes every year.

Went to look at this, not great looking and somethings hanging underneath it but worrying, but just driving it after the hyundai getz was a treat. Back tyres different size to front. CHECK. THE. OIL.
sounds a bit like a tráctor.

About 30 mins from there so yes it could have been that very car. It was heading back that direction so maybe someone took it for a test drive and then bought it.

It ain't pretty, but the mileage is reasonable and NCT till January 2022.
Probably cheaper than trying to buy a E11 version too.

I'm gonna say it now. The (Boards) world needs to know.
This thread, in fact all cheapo eco maniacs and bangernomics cars, are a giant Ponzi scheme run by the nefarious Duke O Smiley. Oh you can buy it, but you'll never see it in your yard. Instead, he conjures up another amazing automobile featuring the latest in driving conveniences and pleasures. And you click. And you ring. And bam. You've bought another. It's like heroin.
