Well it depends on whether you're talking about CSS or SSS. SSS very seldom changes - basically when the course is officially rated. CSS is different every time a competition is played. I'd be more inclined to the view that course rating is close to SSS as they are assessed on the same basis - the scratch golfer. The only difference being that course rating is expressed to one decimal place and SSS is an integer.

if ranking should you not take into account the par of the course?
eg fota ranks 2.5 shots harder than par but douglas is ahead of it but is only .9 shots harder than par

Differs from the provisional ratings I originally received from the club, but seems reasonable relative to some of the other clubs listed above

Athlone. White course (normal course in play) slope 126. Rating 72.2

It cant because it is same as adjustment to CSS, maximum 3 added to the rating

Two rounds there has already added a shot to my new handicap. Playing again on Friday and probably a couple more times befor Nov. My handicap might be 3 or 4 shots higher at tis rate
