The Searchers. John Wayne playing totally against type as a hate/rage filled "injun-hater". John Houston's usual use of extreme widescreen vistas starts off as this narrow framing highlighting the isolated Wayne before camera following the woman through the door and practically blinding you with the view. Amazing shot

I had the pleasure of seeing Silence of the Lambs on the big screen in London recently. Jonathan Demme's technique of shooting part of Lector and Clarice's conversations with the actors looking directly to camera really shines on the big screen, especially the scene below with Lector gazing down on top of the audience with his face filling the whole screen.

The sequel and prequel to Silence of the Lambs are very mundane in comparison but that original film is a masterclass.

Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet by director David Lynch:

The Hallway fight in Inception. Christopher Nolan (And his regular Cinematographer, Wally Pfister) sure know how to make a pretty movie. Especially when you conciser this was mostly practical effects.

NOW it makes perfect sense.

Just because it's animated, doesn't mean it can't be epic. The Lion King opening. I remember watching this in the cinema when it came out originally. Then the title comes in with a thump and I looked around, stunned, thinking: "Did everyone else just see that? Holy crap!!!". And the whole audience was the same.

The last shot from The Godfather Part 2 of an ageing Michael Corleone sitting alone, deep in thought.

Having just watched the whole movie, we implicitly know why he is alone.

I always loved the introductory shot of Grace Kelly in Rear Window. Come to think of it, I probably love every shot of Grace Kelly in Rear Window
