Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Foggy Dew Sinead O'Connor
I need a Hero Bonnie Tyler
Heaven is a Place on Earth Belinda Carlisle
    Bette Davis Eyes Kim Carnes

Foggy Dew Sinead O'Connor - Echo Beach Martha and the Muffins

I need a Hero Bonnie Tyler - Stupid Girl Garbage

Heaven is a Place on Earth Belinda Carlisle - River Deep ~ Mountain High Ike & Tina Turner

Bette Davis Eyes Kim Carnes - Son of a Preacher Man Dusty Springfield

First one is difficult for me and I don't like voting against Sinead, but Echo Beach is a class song.
The rest are all 80s and I will vote heavily for 80s songs.

    Anti O'Connor train starts here.

Genuinely surprised by some of the non qualifiers, i really hope this doesn't end up being full of recent songs

Going by a lot of the NQ's and looking at the first round of qualifiers I'd say recent songs are at a disadvantage; older tunes more likely to benefit from "nostalgia" points.

This isn't a complaint btw; I'm not saying nostalgia is an invalid reason to give a song a high score, we all like a warm, fuzzy nostalgic feeling but it is something older songs will benefit from against newer ones that may be just as good or better.

I went for older songs in my nominations, for this reason, but half of them didn't make the cut. #sadface

99 red balloons Nena - Because The Night Patti Smith - if it was 99 Luftballons I might have gone for Nena but the English version is so inferior to the German one that it shouldn't be here. Also Patti is great.

Ironic Alanis Morisette - Sleeping Satellite Tasmin Archer - somewhat of a protest vote here because Alanis has way better songs than Ironic.

Somebody To Love Jefferson Airplane - Altar Machineart - absolute CHOON, plus I'm a little machineheart'ed out at this stage (Sorry LeVar)

Black Horse and The Cherry Tree, Live on Later With Jools Holland KT Tunstall - Love is a battlefield Pat Benator - enjoy both but going with the one that gets me more pumped.

I think I lost 3 or 4 in the culling stage and that yiz are all tone deaf f*ckers.
I think of these first rounds none of them scored highly from me at all - It looks like I may just give up and leave it to faith that I still think one of mine has a chance - sometimes these rounds go too quick for me - so I may not get to vote in them all

99 red balloons Nena - Because The Night Patti Smith - Patti Smith because I'm shocked that People Have The Power didn't qualify.
Ironic Alanis Morisette - Sleeping Satellite Tasmin Archer - one of my nominations, her debut album is an all time favourite
Somebody To Love Jefferson Airplane - Altar Machineart - Recent discovery that I really like
Black Horse and The Cherry Tree, Live on Later With Jools Holland KT Tunstall - Love is a battlefield Pat Benator - same as Altar.

Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush ; Kate Bush is awesome and Mariah is the worst

Spectrum - Florence + The Machine ; another of mine that made it through prelims

What's Love Got To Do With It - Tina Turner

    My Immortal - Evanescence ; can't believe Amy Lee's solo stuff DNQ'd

All I want for xmas Mariah Carey VS Wuthering Heights Kate Bush - as much as I'd love to make LeVar explode by helping Mariah through, Wuthering Heights is too special to go out here.

Spectrum Florence + The Machine VS Stop dragging my heart around Stevie Nicks - tough matchup, love Stevie but Florence just edges it.

what's love got to do with it Tina Turner VS 9 to 5 Dolly Parton - one of my favourites by Tina Turner, not one of my favourites by Dolly Parton.

My Immortal Evanescence VS thank you Alanis Morissette - certainly better than Ironic, I like both of these songs but prefer Alanis as an artist.

I love how Strawbs has put so much work into this tournament for us but in the end we're all still probably gonna bitch about whatever the result is! :D
