I only saw bits & pieces of the match but the Giants seemed to pull it out of the bag in the 4th quarter. Good to get a win after being 27-13 down in the 3rd quarter.

Seems Brown is the preferred option in Bradshaw's absence. Wilson didn't get a lot of action.

Brown looked real good. Solid option at this point.

Disappointing that Wilson not in the rotation when you compare him to the RB taken by the Bucs the pick before us :(

Nice to see Nicks n Cruz burning it up. Is it possible that a team has a worse secondary than us!! Hope Amukamara will be ready to go thursday night against the Panthers.

That was one crazy game and it was definitely a tale of two halves. In the 1st half we saw the old Eli back again with 3 interceptions but in the second half we saw the Eli we can believe in who can pull out a win in the 4th quarter. Andre Brown was a revelation and I picked him up on my 2 fantasy teams where I have Bradshaw starting. I have a feeling Bradshaw won't be starting against the Panters. I hope Prince is back on Thursday night. I don't like the idea of Steve Smith running rampant for the Jaguars against us.

    NEW YORK GIANTS

    Did Not Participate in Practice
    RB Ahmad Bradshawicon-article-link.gif (Neck)
    T David Diehlicon-article-link.gif (Knee)
    WR Domenik Hixonicon-article-link.gif (Concussion)
    WR Hakeem Nicksicon-article-link.gif (Foot)

    Limited Participation in Practice
    CB Prince Amukamaraicon-article-link.gif (Ankle)
    CB Michael Coeicon-article-link.gif (Hamstring)
    DE Adewale Ojomoicon-article-link.gif (Hamstring)
    LB Keith Riversicon-article-link.gif (Hamstring)

    Full Participation in Practice
    RB Da’Rel Scott (Knee)

Nicks was held out on purpose but is good to go against the Panthers. Would be great if Rivers and Prince are good to go. I was impressed with Rivers against the Cowgirls the 1st day.

If Prince is playing our starting DB's should be Webster, Prince and the rookie Jayron Hosley. That will be big improvement on Michael Coe and Justin Tyron to be fair.

And its only 2 more games till we get Tyler Sash back and be able to go with that 3 safety look we used to great effect at the end of last year.

Hixon and Bradshaw are most likely out. A chance for our 1st and 2nd round rookies Wilson and Randle to step up I wonder. They have both been doing their special team duties well so hoping Coughlin shows some faith in them now that he has the chance.

Damn, feck, blast and all other expletives you wish to utter

Nicks (foot) has been downgraded to out for Thursday's game against the Panthers, the Giants' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: Nicks did not make the trip to Carolina, leaving the Giants down a pair of wideouts, with Domenik Hixon also out. Victor Cruz figures to be busy Thursday, with added opportunities present for the likes of Ramses Barden, Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan.

Andre Brown and Barden stood up. What was unsurprising was how decent our OLine looked with Beatty.

I love DD, but he has been in decline and is often rated as one of the worst tackles in the league. I know next year in the draft we are going to go OL because it's so obvious with talent and age that we need to. Hopefully Beatty continues to deliver because he was really good and hopefully we will be able to say the same about Brewer too. Either way we could easily go 1st and 2nd in the draft for the OL.

Any of the 3 Alabama line-men would do the trick nicely.

Bit worried about Corey Webster. He has started the season really slowly. Jayron Hosley could end up being a bit of a 3rd round steal. Hopefully Prince can stay fit and start to play now.

Cant understand why Scott got the carries at the end of the game and not Wilson. Surely that would be the perfect time (no pressure) to get Wilson some confidence.

I don't know, maybe he wants to give Wilson extra training because the last thing he needs right now is another fumble. I'd say Brown could very well be looking at taking over. Bradshaw has suffered from a poor run protecting OL for years and I just don't think he will be able to displace Andre Brown. It will be interesting if Wilson starts getting the football in a few weeks. TC will likely play Brown on his hot streak and when that starts sliding off he'll throw Bradshaw back in again. I think TC will be very careful with the run game this year.

Webster will come good and agreed 100% about Hosley.

Anyone else think Cam was a bit of a bad loser on Thursday? I don't care but I just thought his comments were a bit juvenile. I lost a bit of respect for him.

Hopefully we move up another gear again. I don't think the Eagles are playing good ball but they are getting it done so hopefully we can get it done it Philly.

Now as a Pats fan, I would like to congratulate you Giants for destroying the Panthers the other night. :D

And that's why I was so glad you guys wiped his ass on the pítch. I have never liked him, because he comes across as a smug ass. Yet he has achieved or won nothing. I think the poor fool believes his own hype too much. Manning gave him an excellent lesson in real QB play and it was a joy to watch.

I know it's very early in the week but this is my gist of things for what's a vital game against the Eagles.

Nicks has come out and said he expects to play and considering he was close to playing against Panthers you'd expect him to be ready to go.

Webster will play in a cast.

Bradshaw sounds doubtful and you can never be too careful with neck injuries.

Diehl looks to be doubtful as well. (prob wouldn't start him anyway)

Rolle will practise wednesday and it was only a cut on the leg so sure he'll be fine.

Hixon will be cleared to practise Wednesday so we should be well set at WR this week.

No word as yet on Coe, Hosley and Rivers. Would be nice to have Hosley and Rivers.

Also how great is it, for the 1st time i can remember since he was drafted, that Prince is not on an injury report. Here's hoping he can start to fulfill his potential now.

Absolutely. He was excellent last week. I love Bradshaw but he has been poor. The OL are partly to blame too of course. Hopefully it puts a fire under him and they both can prosper.

Michael Strahan has been nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame!

Michael Strahan, the Giants’ career leader in both games played and sacks and the NFL record-holder for sacks in a season, was today named as one of the 13 first-year eligible modern-era candidates nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2013.

Strahan is one of 16 nominees with Giants connections from a list of 127. The other first-year nominee who played for the Giants is Morten Andersen, who was the team’s kicker in 2001.

Strahan played for the Giants from 1993-2007. He played in 216 regular-season games, nine more than any other player in franchise history (Howard Cross, 2007). Strahan’s 141.5 sacks are a Giants record and nine more than Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor (though Taylor’s 9.5 sacks as a rookie in 1981 don’t count in his total, since sacks didn’t become an official statistics until the following season).

In 2001, Strahan set the single-season record with 22.5 sacks. He was a captain of the Giants’ 2007 Super Bowl XLII championship team. Strahan retired after that season and is currently a studio analyst for FOX and recently became a co-host with Kelly Ripa of “Live! with Kelly and Michael.”

The additional Hall of Fame nominees with ties to the Giants are quarterback Phil Simms; running backs Ottis Anderson, Tiki Barber, Brian Mitchell (also nominated as a return specialist) and Herschel Walker; tackle Lomas Brown; center Joe Fields; cornerback Everson Walls; punter Sean Landeta; coaches Bill Parcells, Dan Reeves, Bill Arnsparger and Marty Schottenheimer; and former general manager George Young.

    Yeah budday! Stomp them out.

Has to be a 1st ballot HOF player.

    Out (or likely out)
    Nicks - WR - Foot/Knee
    Rivers - LB - Hamstring
    Hosley - CB - Hamstring
    Diehl - OT - Knee
    Coe - CB - Hamstring

    Probable/Questionable (will play)
    Bradshaw - RB
    Hixon - WR
    Ojomo - DE
    Webster - CB
    Rolle - S

It's big disappointment that Nicks, Hosley and Rivers are out as they really can contribute alot this season when fit. The way the O-line played against Panthers its not too much of a problem that Diehl is out.

Prince Amukamara will start which is great news.
Webster will play in a cast.

Really interested to see if this DE/DT Ojomo can contribute this year.
He is a big boy out of the U with bit of ability to pressure. Be interesting to see if he can take over the Tollefson roll from last year.

Hixon and Bradshaw will have bit more competition for touches after Brown and Barden did so well last week.

Hopefully straightforward home win against the Browns now next Sunday. Rest Nicks again if he is not 100%. We can win this one without him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,057 ✭✭✭JJ

That was a tough loss but I don't think you can pin it all on Ramses, you win as a team and lose as a team. Hopefully, we can get the Eagles back on the last game of the season. The Giants should bounce back this week but they shouldn't take it for granted. The crowd at the Meadowlands could easily turn on them if they don't get off to a good start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

    Out
WR Ramses Barden (Concussion - DNP)
DT Rocky Bernard (Quadricep - DNP)
CB Jayron Hosley (Hamstring - DNP)
WR Hakeem Nicks (Foot/Knee - DNP)
S Kenny Phillips (Knee - DNP)
    Doubtful
T David Diehl (Knee - LP)
LB Keith Rivers (Hamstring - LP)
    Questionable
LB Michael Boley (Hip - LP)
S Antrel Rolle (Knee - LP)
G Chris Snee (Hip - LP)
CB Corey Webster (Hand/Hamstring - LP)
    Probable
C David Baas (Hand - FP)
CB Michael Coe (Hamstring - FP)

    Giants win.

    Eagles lose.

    Redskins lose.

    It was a good day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,139 ✭✭✭Red Crow

    @ San Fran
    Redskins
    @ Dallas
    Steelers

That is just awful tbh. Hopefully two divisional wins and a home win against the Steelers. I think we really need to go 3-0 here because the Eagles have a pretty tough few weeks before it gets relatively 'easy' for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,057 ✭✭✭JJ

I think it's safe to say there's no let up in the schedule for the rest of the season so this win was badly needed. You wouldn't think Bradshaw had a bad start to this game looking at his stats. I thought Hixon was going to benefit most from Nicks and Barden being out but Rueben Randle really stepped up. It was a shame he didn't get a touchdown but he still had some good catches.

It could be a long night ahead of us boys. After all we are a playoff team unlike the 49ners!

    Go Giants or go Home

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,989 ✭✭✭wawaman

Big big win !! Impressive stuff by the defense mostly although they gave up a couple of big plays. Another game, another reciever standing up, this time, Hixon.
Couple of big picks by Rolle aswell. The schedule doesnt get any easier but that win should give more confidence for the battles in the weeks ahead

Well that was pretty impressive. Hard to pick any faults in the performance overall.

Next 2 games are divisional games so need to win both as we are currently 0-2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭boccy23

The whole performance was so impressive. I though on offense that Eli played as well as we have come to expect. Dominic Hixon stepped up and Victor made his usual end zone play. Was real worried when he got flipped.

I liked that Gilbride stuck with the run and we ran it down their throats at the end of the game. Offensive line play is coming along so well. Loved the effect of Wilson's speed when running out the clock.

On D, the line finally started to get some pressure. Rolle and the secondary had an A game.

Overall, a real good win on the road. Now we ned to win next week and see where we go. If we enter the bye 6-2, that's a tremendous position to be in facing into our historically worst period.

Where are all you lads getting your gear this year?

I'm looking at a hoody and a t-shirt. Last year I ordered directly from the Giants website but got stung for duty and the shipping was $25 and it took 3-4 weeks.

NFL.com now has a European shop (http://europe.nflshop.com/stores) so you won't get stung on import duty but the shipping is still a bit expensive.

    Bullet dodged.

D had pretty good game and JPP was awesome again. Eli and the offense were pretty poor.

Still a win is a win now bring on the Cowgirls.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,989 ✭✭✭wawaman

A win is a win but RG3 & Morris ran through the defense pretty easily at times. And how RG3 wasnt taken down when he made "that" scramble that led to the Redskins TD with a minute odd left ill never know. If Eli doesnt throw that INT with 4 mins left its game over, but then he goes clutch again and throws that beauty of a pass to Cruuuuuuuz !!:D

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000084501/article/victor-cruz-hoping-for-new-giants-contract-this-season

Giants are paying Cruz $577,000 this year. Obviously the Giants will want to retain Cruz and get a contract done. Cruz himself seems like a dedicated and focused player so I don't see it affecting him at all.

My one worry is the Giants cap situation. I know we were up fairly tight against it this offseason. If we take DeSean Jacksons 5 year $51 million dollar contract as the minimum Cruz's advisors would be willing to accept where will the cap space come from to create this?

Question: 2012 Draft - Worst ever?

    David Wilson RB Virginia Tech
    Rueben Randle WR LSU
    Jayron Hosley CB Virginia Tech
    Adrien Robinson TE Cincinnati
    Brandon Mosley OT Auburn
    Matt Mccants OT UAB
Markus Kuhn DT North Carolina State

For a team which has been built so heavily on the draft, was this years one a total bust?

Wilson and Randle have failed to shine.

Hosley has been injured but as a nickel has seemed lost at times.

Robinson & Kuhn have been non-contributors so far.

Mosley is injured. McCants is on the practive squad.

I know it's early, but I do look at this years class as a write off at this stage.

Bit premature no? Coughlin tends to bring rookies on slowly. Even jpp was held back a bit in his rookie year.

Randle n Wilson have had some nice cobtributions but play in spots where we are pretty deep. Hosley looks ok. Rookie corners r bound to make mistakes (jst ask stephon gilmore)

The rest of the guys are developemental guys. Once robinson learns blocking assignments etc. he'll b able to contribute.

Mosley was a nice pick up n expect to see him nxt year

Talk about crawling over the line!

Cowboys pushed us over the line. We'll take it. 6-2 with Steelers & Bengals to come before bye week. If we could split those two games 7-3 at the bye be excellent. Final 6 games will be tough sledging

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,057 ✭✭✭JJ

Those last two games were too close for comfort. The offense doesn't seem to be performing as good as they should be. The Steelers have been a little shaky at times this season but the last time we played them, it was a hard fought win and I reckon this one isn't going to be easy either.

Since the 49ers win, things have gone downhill. Granted Eli managed to outgun RG3 and we fell over the line against the cowboys but last night was very poor. No offense of note at all. Any time big advances that were made downfield was because of penalties and one of our 2 TD's was from a "dodgy" fumble. In the last 3 games the defense has basically been unable to stop any rushes from the opponent. Whether Eli had an off day or the recievers couldnt escape coverage, it was very frustrating to watch. At the moment the only plus was the 'Boys lost and the eagles have a difficult game against the Saints in the Dome
