Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yep the lunatics-that run this particular asylum feel we don't need one, either that or they're beating the drum for Tesco's competition.

The 2 * 18 for a tenner- works out at 28c a pop- which is better than any previous offer. They'll probably be back at this price for the June bankholiday.

The last thread had 10k posts in 3 and a half years or so. That's less than 10 posts a day you have to keep track of. No major need for single threads except for good bargains like cheap tvs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 540 ✭✭✭yoshimitsu

IMHO it makes it much easier if a single thread reads, for example: "Tesco: 12 cans of coke for €6". you click in to read if you're interested, if not you dont.
A humongous Tesco Bargains thread where you have to weed through numerous posts of ppl commenting on some bargain posted a couple of pages before is not very user friendly. I clicked on this one as I saw it was only 2 pages and would be quick to get a feel if it's interesting or not.
    just my 2 cents though

Thing is if people post 20 different bargains, thats 20 Tesco threads clogging up the forum. Also peoples opinion of a bargain is different too, so only thing worse than 20 tesco bargain threads is 20 tesco bargain threads where half aren't even a bargain.

Frette bedlinen - this was part of the stamp deal sometime last year - see http://www.tesco.ie/frette/#sectionThree. Last week they hauled out all remaining stock and are clearing it out. Not a great bargain, but it's a cheaper than when it was an "offer". For example, the king size duvet cover which was €35.99 is now €30. There seems to be more of the Milano range left than the Roma.

picked up Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition for €5.99 in Maynooth. Last one on the shelf though. Had a new bar-code stuck on over the old one. Maybe worth checking other stores.

As part of Coeliac Awareness week Tesco have reductions on some items in that department. Seems to be mostly Kelkin and Glutafin with 33% and I think it was 3 for 2 on others. Running til the end of the month (I think), you can find it online too.

I find the tesco own brand just as good and alot cheaper.

occasionally the 24 box own brand is cheaper than the 48 box own brand tesco bix.

above is price per bix cost.

Per biscuut. In tesco larger packs are very often more expensive per item / per weight.

The 1/2 price wine in Tesco is all a con as this article from the Guardian shows.
While it refers to the UK, as far as Tesco are concerned we are part of the same marketplace

    http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/nov/01/supermarket-wine-tesco-sainsburys-asda

I don't know the excise or VAT rates that apply here, but the actual amount spent on the wine in a E7 bottle, after those taxes, transport, bottling and the supermarket profit must be tiny.

I just bought a 2012 bottle of St Emillion Grand Cru in Lidl for E14.99. It won a gold medal in the Challenge International du Vin (whatever that is), but it should be good stuff. Only after leaving the shop did I remember the E10 voucher off a E50 spend in tomorrows Sunday World and Sindo, both of which can also be used in Tesco.

Wonder will Tesco accept lidl vouchers online? I've a €15 online voucher to use up too!

I wasn't posting about half price wine, I was posting about wines which very rarely if ever are available below €10.

Sony BDS-P1200 blu ray player scanning at 49.99, last year's model but has USB, network, iPlayer etc. Someone took the last one off the shelf in Bloomfield's mind you. If you see it elsewhere you won't get a better bargain!

Don't believe everything you read in the newspaper!! Yes - there are a lot of rubbish wines on sale in the half-price sales but there are also decent ones. The trick is to know what wines you like and what you normally pay for them and then stock up when they're on sale. Obviously the UK buyers of Tesco wine aren't very discriminating - can't believe that Oggio plonk is one of their best sellers!
