Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.
Thanks all.

Today I saw a classic and took a pic thread! Part 2

If I'm right, that hotel has a number for a name :)

Yep, The Twelve Hotel, Barna. Highly recommended, friendly staff, great food and reasonably priced. And one of the few dog friendly hotels in Ireland :)

Makes me wonder if it is the hotel owner's car. I'm sure my in-laws will now :D

I skipped over that. Your in-laws own the place or are related to the owner?

Lovely place it is, good setup. Good location 100m from the sea / beach of sorts, in the village which is well served with pubs, shops and restaurants. Just minutes drive from Connemara. They deserve a lot of business! Also has two charge points for electric cars, free to use, both working perfectly.

They are down the road from the 12 and are hoteliers themselves. I imagine they know everyone. :D

Quite a few classics down that neck of the woods actually, I regularly see an 80s 911 when I am down there (about every few weeks to visit), an SL Merc and a few early/mid 90s MX5s too. A lot of properties have garages so there are jewels stored away everywhere. :)

Near the Rathfarnham Shopping Centre earlier. House nearby was a treasure trove with an old Corolla, Volvo estate and VW camper. Took no photos of the others though as they were in a driveway.

Nice early '60s Dublin reg convertible Beetle parked in Nass yesterday morning, a valuable car now, great to see it out being used and enjoyed, and others able to enjoy seeing it too. Sorry about the finger

Lovely. What's going on with the rear wheel? Looks like it may have a wheel cylinder or something leaking.

There is only a castlenut and locking pin on the rear of the
beetle hub , no cap.I'd say leaking brake cylinder

So what stops the grease spinning out?

PS: gorgeous Beetle, I remember seeing it around Dublin in the 1980’s

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,057 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

Seal. More oil here than grease .
Its that well sprayed around the wheel rim, I would say, wheel cylinder leak
    ,
or more likely oil seal gone.Oil hub seal is a common fail on these.

spotted this little French beauty in Greystones at the weekend.
The threatening piece of Americana was in Bray the other day, I think it was a '57 or '59 reg, with Eddie Rockets livery and a Cannonball sticker on the rear window

That GS is a cracker. I see it's a left hooker which explains the good condition.

Still a fresh looking design 50 years on from launch.

a couple of MGBs in Wicklow town at the weekend.
and a well kept Mercedes coupe in Greystones

edit: you can just make out an old (60s?) orange MB camper coming towards me in the distance in the last pic

Somewhat O/T. but saw a honey of an MGB today. Sadly without a camera on me. And.... I have a feeling in the not too distant it might become available. Anyone got a recommendation for a valuation site? Thanks

    Lancia Fulvia

I posted it a few years ago. It had gone missing for about a year, I assumed it was sold, or being restored, but it's been back a while now. It was out for a spin when I passed this morning. Sadly, being left out seems to be taking its toll on it.

You were oh so close to the Carina and you didn't know it! :)
