Watched this last night and agree with many that Tom Holland is simply too young for the role. The final set piece with the helicopters was also total rubbish. I also don't like Mark Wahlberg very much so there is that too.

    4/10

Garbage, switched it off after 10 minutes.

He's the wrong age for the character seen in the video game, he's the right age for the character they wrote for the movie, and the series it seems they want to make.

Mark Wahlberg's success baffles me still.

Stuck on this last night and to be honest, once you look past the origins of the characters, this is a semi decent popcorn film along the same veins of National Treasure, Fools Gold and Sahara.

One thing though, that "PlayStation production" title card opening on Aloy's focus made me pine for a decent adaptation of the Horizon games.

I think Netflix is going to make a Horizon series. Seems much better suited to a film imo.

Yeah, Netflix is planning a Horizon series. And, as @speedboatchase said, long form factor like TV is a better medium for game adaptations. Especially if there is a franchise with a lot of Lore. Horizon has 2 games with more coming. Its lore is there but now is a good time. There is enough there without it being overly complicated. They can release a cool 20 min "Episode 0" online outlining the fall of society to reduce the reliance on holographic info-dumps seen in the game. You have quite a well defined world. The tribes etc are well thought out, if not hugely original. But there is still much to explore (And it will be great to see the machines if done with a decent budget).

The brief snippets and trailer we have seen of The Last of Us seems to be startlingly close to the game. (Even down to Pedro Pascal's voice). But TLoU was a very cinematic game that would again, lend itself very well to a limited series.

Uncharted was not really about that though. These were always fun mostly-episodic romps. As said, more inline with "National Treasure" than even the likes of "Tomb Raider".

But hey, we always have this:

Even though Tom Holland is on a "hiatus movie holiday" a sequel could happen according to Charles Roven
