Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I remember my first race as a vet. The prize for 1st Vet was a mounted Campagnolo Record rear derailleur. It was in mint condition. I really, really wanted to win it. I didn't. I was 2nd vet, beaten by Sean Lally.
Now that I think about it, he made quite a habit of beating me. In equal parts, I loved and hated racing against him.

I turned up for one of my first club rides and there was no-one else there because of the particularly bad weather. He spotted me on my own and invited me to go out with his group. Talk about a baptism of fire - I had to lie on the sofa for the rest of the day. Seriously impressive rider considering his age. :pac:

Got an email from DPD about a package being shipped to my house. I haven't ordered anything and its from a company called Be Valued which seem to be some sort of insurance repair company in the UK. Weird thing is, I copied the number and went to the DPD site and it is there, it also has my correct address. The paranoid side of me feels that someone is upto no good.

I get this feeling most of the times when something from aliexpress arrives.

Rang DPD and they have my phone number correct as well. Its just the BeValued thing. I looked at their website:
We specialise in the valuation and settlement of insurance claims across a wide range of categories including PC & laptops, mobile phones, electrical entertainment, kitchen appliances, bicycles, sporting equipment, power tools, spectacles, hearing aids and many more. Our partners include some of the worlds leading suppliers including Apple, Amazon, Appliances Online, Halfords, Boots, Currys/PC World and Marks & Spencer in addition to hundreds more. In the links below you will find the answers to any questions you may have.

I haven't sent anything away for repair, nor claimed anything. Even if I had, my address is quite new and not one I use often, typically getting stuff sent to work or my mother in laws. They use the name of my house, which I rarely do as I think people have an easier time finding the number of my house. Will report in tomorrow, my daughter is at home tomorrow so will be there to get the package.

Have you called these BeValued lads? In the worst case scenario, you can throw a few GDPR spears at them, at least before the 29th ;)

I think this will be appreciated around here... https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/local-news/royston-station-car-park-boycott-15951574
A van driver has been left reeling after his regular parking space was turned into a premier bay without his knowledge - landing him with a hefty fine.

The mechanical project manager said he will be boycotting the station until his £60 fine is cancelled...

"I'm going to walk 20 minutes to work from now on until they cancel my fine. It's their loss.

"I get a bit healthier, they lose £36 a week for the next year.

    "I think I win."

A 20 minute walk to work! And he was paying €40 a week to get the train? And driving to the train station!?

"The premier parking was advertised very clearly in freshly-painted, 2ft tall bright yellow letters on the road directly in front of the parking bays."
I think everyone will be happier he is walking to work from now on.

I'll wait to see what it is and what I have forgotten about. Its just weird, particularly that I cannot remember making any claims. Updates tomorrow evening.

dunno if they could open it in advance and send photos. With the likes of parcel motel people get unwanted junkmail sent months later and they will discard it for you, dpd use parcel wizard so are probably used to the same issue.

Or the moment your daughter gets it she could maybe send a photo to you and hand it right back to the delivery man if its not for you.

It would be in their interest to do so too.

Unless the package has come from Pat Mustard, is this really that much of an issue? I'd love to get random free stuff delivered.

Just the hassle. You are legally obliged to hang onto stuff delivered in error, and I think the onus is on you to contact them and then they will have to arrange collection. After a certain time you can keep it.

Surely that’s only as long as the UK is in the EU. If they leave...

Daughter will be the one signing for it, I'll just make sure she signs Rodney Trotter

DPD are always flying around close to work so if its not mine I'll bring it in to work and ring the BeValued crowd.

Probably not this, but there's a fascinating subworld of people delivering cheap tat to random people to game online-retailer rankings.

I can't find the podcast in the ten seconds I have to devote to this, but this is pretty much what they said:
There was actually a Reply All podcast about this recently. Reviews that are made by customers who have actually purchased the product are prioritized in the reviews section for a product. So paid reviewers in other countries purchase the product and send them to random addresses throughout the United States.

Wasn't there a thread on the Fitzwilliam Square cycle track scheme?

    https://irishcycle.com/2019/03/13/were-planning-for-cycling-for-all-ages-and-abilities-says-engineer-to-cllrs-focused-on-car-parking/

Not that I want to focus on the sensational, but Nazis Ted, NAZIS!
Cllr Chris Andrews said: “Cllr Lacey said that some cyclist behave like loonatics [sic], and, indeed, some cyclists behave like Nazis.

Maybe he is comparing the taking over of parking spaces to Lebensraum or something, because other than that I'm lost.

If anything, I'd have imagined they were very orderly cyclists, horrible people, but thoroughly marshalled, drilled and orderly cyclists.

Spotted a lovely sign at Alfie Byrne road this morning:

̈́"It would take 15 minutes to cycle from here to College Green"

Mind you, today of all days it would likely take longer...

They have one of those signs on the Swords/Drumcondra road in Whitehall. 16 minutes to GPO it claims.

I'm surprised that some of our less intelligent councillors haven't come out to complain about them as they only encourage cyclists to cycle even faster to try beat the times. The new version of Strava hooligans.

Hmm, I'm still running with the theory that there is some time travel shenanigans going on here. I'm thinking that Doc Brown sent it in the past, Back to the Future style, or that CramCycle has sent himself something from the future.

If the latter is indeed the case, I'm guessing it's his original human brain in a jar after having transferred his conciousness to a robotic chassis years from now in some kind of post-apocalyptic scenario (probably 2021 or thereabouts).
