Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A few low rumbles here in Cork city now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,363 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

ECM showing the train of thunderstorms to keep going in the SE / E until about 14.00 and then the last of it moving across the Irish sea. It shows that this is only getting going. Plenty of activity later in the morning and showing heavy rain in the prediction charts in the E.

The infrared satellite tends to disagree with that at the moment anyway, a single plume now tailing off from the south and activity free skies right down the Celtic Sea to Biscay.

Lots of distant approaching thunder but as soon as it came near only saw 1 flash and nothing since.
Glad plenty got to see something before it moves away

Is that your stomach maybe? It's a peaceful morning in cork city

Looks like a bust for anywhere in Cork now

Could see lots of forked lightning off over Kilcock and Edenderry directions with very low rumbling thunder and one or two pretty close (North Kildare, between Clane and Derrinturn) flashes with loud crashes earlier but gone pretty quiet since about 7.

However its been getting darker rather than brighter the last hour and reckon could be in line for a direct hit of what is coming up from Kilkenny in the next hour if its going to follow Met.ie's rainfall forecast!

Edit: literally hit post and the sky just lit up! Round 2 here we go!

As the great MT. Cranium said it would.

    All hail MT.

Judging by the excellent met eireann radar it’s not drifting east but north east along the band. It’s also dying out from the south.

Dublin doesn’t look to be in the firing line anymore.

Anybody understand why this was so hard to predict. I literally looked at the Met eireann Dublin forecast in the app at 12-1am and nothing. I am planning a barbecue so needed to know. Now there’s a warning until 12 for Leinster and east Munster issued at 5am.

Seems to be losing its spark at the moment

Likely to spark up again somewhat but not as much as earlier

Soft rumblings in the sky 30 mins ago in Dublkin 5

In my experience and I could be wrong, this is No 1985 (yet) but the heat energy of that sun in the East could still liven up storms later this morning as this passes through
The cloud over head me is moving north north east btw, almost full NE indicating the flow overhead is now SSW
    Attached 2 photos
    Lots of towers growing

    Looks like that's it.
Came suddenly and goes out the same way.
Would expect the orange warning to be taken down shortly

Beginning to spark up a little again

Suggest biggest Dublin area risk of direct hit 10-11am

Aye,just to clarify, what we've seen this morning wouldn't puddle in the pool of any of our historic thunderstorm spells
But could the extra heat energy spark some more out of this to excite the thunder pallets in the east yet,I think so?

Got a total of 3 rumbles of thunder and 10 minutes of rain here my section of the SE.

Looks like I just got unlucky.

Skies clearing to my southeast, but big towers going up to my southwest. Lightning died out shortly after 8.30am. There was a quarter hour spell where it was getting close to 85 for intensity, but unfortunately it didn't sustain that level.

Sun is back out here now. Got a few nice videos, one of the big hail too...

Seems to be kicking off in Kildare again

Didn't notice anything in Rathdrum, Wicklow this morning. Maybe the pints last night helped me to sleep through it! Lovely blue sky and sunshine here now, is there more activity likely later?

Distant thunder again here in Kildare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭pauldry

These thunderstorms are fading now from radar. Unless you got something now there wont be much more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,221 ✭✭✭pad199207

    Very loud thunder again now

Bang on 5.40 am the thunder and torrential rain started here in Wexford. It moved on quickly enough though.

At least some thunderstorm actually occured!
I'm a bit sickened, considering we missed an extreme thunderstorm by no more than 20km yesterday in West Clare.

I'm in Rush, and can see Lambay Island out my window, and there's been nothing since about 7am this morning.

Thought I heard a rumble there about 5 minutes ago, but nada.

It might be cooler with the overcast but its not fresh, humidities are still very high, the air mass will change tonight and early tomorrow.

Looking at Flightradar 24, ATC is doing some unusual routing for incoming and outgoing traffic which I suspect is to avoid the weather East / north east of Lambay.

The sky around me is very volatile looking
