This is going to be epic, regardless if you like this type of music, the skills of these bands are just from another planet (and for 20 quid!)

Lacuna Coil are playing Dublin on 14th November but I have a feeling they may not have many fans here, I think some people look down on female fronted bands. Anyway that will be my first time in Dublin in 12 years which is odd as I only live in co.derry.

Female fronted is a total fad, tells me absolutely nothing about what the band sound like. In LC's case they are also fronted by a man who seems to be whitewashed out for those very purposes. Anyway I like them seen them a few times but never their own headline show so shall likely be going.

If peoples musical tastes don't want to register lead vocals of all women that's ok...unusual imo but ok.

I'd attend a lot of gigs per year and went to a bunch of gigs last year so for some the frontperson was fwiw female and would say the opposite of what you seem to say. Went to Halestorm early 2015 venue half full, then again a few months back and sold out the same place not sure where the surge in popularity came from, Epica first ever show in Ireland very well attended in a venue with slightly more capacity than the Academy, audience wise noticeable alright there would have been a higher percentage of women attending than the average rock/metal show but for sure a healthy thing for a scene often stereotyped for the senseless man.

What do you mean when you say it tells you nothing about what the band sound like?

In Lacuna Coils case it is better the male singer doesn't sing too much as his voice is terrible.

I mean exactly that, no one would reckon because for example you may like Lamb of God it is safe to assume the 1975 should be up your street as they are fronted by a male, so what's the buzz when it comes to females?

Well pity as he'll be singing a bunch I'm afraid to tell ya! :)

Anyone else here remember them playing in McGonagle's around 199Oish?
Seemed like a sound bunch of lads as they chatted to fans outside before the gig.

That's not the case with me though, I don't like all female fronted bands, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil and Draconian are probably the only ones I like in that scene, I don't like Halestorm or Epica.

I've seen them twice back in 2012-2013 but their drummer and 2 guitarists have since left, their bass player is the one who writes the music, he's still there though.

Well that's precisely what I mean I wouldn't expect you to, the same way I expect you don't like every "male fronted" band going.

Why would a progressive metal band like Epica be thrown in the mix for instance with a straightforward approach rock band such as Halestorm just because the lead vocalist is female (Epica also having male death style vocalist) , all a bit silly to me now.

Hi folks, is anyone aware of a good site that could replace metalireland.com? Always found MI extremely useful for gig details like stage times etc., reviews and all sorts of useful and interesting stuff around rock and metal in and from Ireland…
