Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Found the verbal easy enough and finished them all, but the numerical was a horror show. Seemed ok enough to begin with, but got gradually harder. The lack of time was a killer on those. I just couldn't calculate fast enough.

Clerical checking was pretty ok, but didn't finish any of them on time.

I'd be surprised if I got anything higher than middle of the pack on these assessments... I hate maths so much!!

    Best of luck everyone.

My thoughts are like yours here. I just finished mine, the maths was iffy. I felt some questions had a few things to do in them rather that just figure a percentage. I guessed some. I made a mess of the error checking on with the first couple of questions by clicking in wrong order!!!

Bit of a disaster but there you go!!

Wasn't that bad taking away the questionnaire and including math will suit me more then PAS exams

  • Registered Users Posts: 983 ✭✭✭misslemon

It wasn't too bad! Just did mine there. Verbal was ok, maths was grand but a bit tricky towards the end. Error checking, which I'm awful at, went by so fast I don't know if it went good, bad or indifferent.

But at least it's done now!

Just did the tests. found the Verbal OK, the numerical was ok to begin with, got a bit trickier as it went on. The error checking was too fast.. feeling I messed it up but sure its hard to tell. Good luck everyone :)

Did the test last night.... OMG definitely need a mouse and a calculator, way tougher than public jobs test with the timeout so short :-(

When we originally picked top 2 locations, does this mean we are applying for 2 separate panels or you'll get which ever you are highest on?

You get a place on 2 panels and whatever area gets to your number first you will be offered.

Thanks I put North Tipperary/East Limerick As No 1 because that's the location I presently work in but other than where I am rest of Tipperary is much too far away so I put Limerick No 2.

Haven't done this one as thankfully I was placed on a different panel recently. In the last clerical it was said that error checking and comprehension goes towards your ranking but the numerical you only need to pass but does not affect your ranking. Anyone know if this is the case in this panel. Have a few friends that are a bit disheartened after the numerical part of the test.

Well in the pas one numerical wasn't counted

The tests are not the same for everyone, the questions are randomised as it would be very easy to cheat otherwise.

The questions are different but is the screens with the information, paragraphs and graphs etc.,not the same?

U must be unreal at apptitude tests because the majority of those tests put in more questions than is even physically possible to answer all if you are trying to be accurate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 Tpau

Well it's done now and I was happy with error checking and verbal reasoning although it's hard to know really. The maths was ok but I was far too slow and didn't get to finish them. Best of luck to everybody.

Do we have to do supervised tests or is it straight to interview in order of merit from these tests?

There was no mention in the info booklet they sent out when you applied afaik

It says in the email about the actual assessment that HBS recruit reserve the right to invite candidates to undertake a further supervised assessment. Results from the supervised assessment take precedence over those from the on line assessment.

Fair enough- i only glanced at it as I've done a few of these and didn't see it

Well I generally score pretty high in them to be honest. I have practiced them a lot over the years too. Maybe I felt less stress in this one because I am not relying on it like previous ones..maybe I got everything wrong.. Will find out soon enough.

To be honest some people are just naturally good at them, I have to practice a lot but my brother who wouldn't even practice always scores way higher than me.

I noticed this, this is why I asked, however from what I can see it's not stated as the next stage? Thanks for that.

No I didn't do my friends. She done her's in my house cos I have better internet connection and the verbal passages were different topics

  • Registered Users Posts: 194 ✭✭jewels0606

I didn't do the practice ones as I found them more unhelpful than helpful with PAS
So the supervised one in pas went much better
Same with the council ones I did no practice and found it easier
So I did no practice with this and found them easy enough except for one or two maths questions where I ran out of time calculating
I find with me if I practice I almost get lulled into a false sense of security and think it'll be easy and I'll be too relaxed
If I'm mentally prepared to concentrate on something hard I do better
Weird but works better for me
When I practice I do sh** lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 104 ✭✭everybodyhas1

Just completed mine this morning, I didn't get to finish the numerical there at the end I ran out of time.

When you clicked your links in the email you received you just got brought to samples and then the test, there was no information displayed showing that it was your test with your name/candidate number right? I found that lack of information a bit odd.

Absolutely agree. The link was not well defined. I thought they could do with looking over the emails & revising them. The instructions were not clear.

  • Registered Users Posts: 983 ✭✭✭misslemon

I had to email them because my links didn't work. The links said I'd completed the tests when I hadn't. When I emailed them I got a snippy reply saying they'd reset my links, but to be careful because they wouldn't do it again! I had done nothing, it was their glitchy software issue.

I have to say I haven't been impressed with how this campaign has been run so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 414 ✭✭L390

That's why we are applying we will sort the place out lol

Spelling/grammatical errors in emails, I also had the wrong surname in email.. I actually wondered if it was a hoax as they asked for our pps

I dunno why, but it was in the application form ... wasn't it? I was weary giving it but as it was advertised in Publicjobs I just want with it. Then the emails did little for my confidence... hmmm....

So weird how we all got the incorrect second name email too. ...

Oh, sorry. A friend just forwarded the link & he had been talking about publicjobs. Either way, I'm prob just suspicious of professional bodies with poor grammar 😅

  • Registered Users Posts: 983 ✭✭✭misslemon

Why is it not with Public Jobs? Public Jobs aren't perfect but they run things fairly professionally.

I just can't see why the taxpayer is paying for this crowd of illiterate chancers who blame people for their own mistakes when we already fund the Public Appointments Service to manage, you know, Public Appointments.

I'm getting unreasonably annoyed by this...maybe the idea is to raise our blood pressure to simulate the stressful work conditions of a busy HSE/Tusla department?

😉maybe! Ah no, please don't be annoyed. I'm sure it's as fair as can be. Best of luck to all.
